He doesn't really do that. He just plays one or the other and rags it to the end.
    Ha - good on him!

In that case I predict he’ll opt to sit deep. We’ve been shit but we’ve got the players to stretch and overload teams that press us high up.

Everton will be seething after the points deduction, Goodison will be well up for it, their players will fight for every ball, our coach is suspended from the touchline, a bunch of first team players are half fit. Not loving our chances.

Awful time to play this lot, they will be very up for this. Another scrappy win feels like the absolute best-case scenario.

    Erm? Proven bullshit ITK account.
Accuracy of who's behind that INSIDER United account?
Very accurate. Not sure why @Offside thinks it's proven bullshit when the person has proven to be actually accurate, giving details on multiple injuries before the news comes out? There was even an athletic article saying the club was investigating who was the source for the account because it was direct medical information.

    My guess:
    Martial
    Rashford Bruno Antony
    Mount McTominay
    Dalot Lindelof Maguire Wan Bissaka
    Onana

Would pick Garnacho over Antony but doubt Ten Hag does for this, other than that picks itself given the absences? Hojlund not sure if he'll be risked with Galatasaray coming up, I'd keep him fresh. Wouldn't expect to see Shaw for a couple of weeks.

Everton are powerful and athletic and are going to be very aggressive and physical in this game. We'll have to earn the right to play - not anything new, but the atmosphere for this one will be ferocious, so will be doubly important to supress that lustre or have them playing against us like maniacs until they themselves burn out. That's not ideal because the game could be decided by then.

I hope we're mentally and physically ready for this game. There's no excuse whatsoever to be unprepared. Can we win a midfield battle against Everton with the personnel we have? It's going to be a large factor in this game.

The siege mentality effect of the points deduction isn't the only challenge either - they have good form (3 wins and 1 loss in their last 5). And their fundamentals have been good all season, they've just been struggling to convert.

Still, I feel oddly optimistic. They seem like the sort of team that hasn't been lacking in spark, but rather in poise and control. Adding more spark and pressure won't necessarily make them better.

Disagree with that. People will look at possession percentages and say that we don't have control of games but we don't set out at all to have possession because as the past 5 games we have played shows, it's not the only aspect that shows you have control. We very much are controlled in the way we play and our game-plans.

Dyche is all about controlling the fine margins and fundamentals and he's done that very well for most of the season.

This is one worry for me. Dyche has poor in game management and it makes the "FFS make a sub thread" on here look tame. Not saying Young was at fault for the OG in the Brighton game but Mitoma was killing him in the second half and he should have been taken off but for some reason Dyche loves flogging players until their last percentage. There are moments where if we made subs I think game outcomes would be slightly different.

I'm not talking about possession (and I certainly haven't delved deeply into Everton's underlying stats - I've just read the features pointing out they've been pretty good). It's more the general picture that this has been a team that has come away with fewer points than their performances should have warranted. A team that largely does the right things and does them well, but is struggling to convert that into results. That's an issue of poise and, broadly speaking, control to me. How does dropping a few extra spoonfuls of fire in the belly into that affect things? If this had been a team struggling to implement a game plan or lacking in conviction and application, it'd be a clear and obvious plus. But Everton does not appear to have been lacking in that, rather you'd look maybe for clearer heads and cooler decisions, a more clinical aspect of finishing? There may (or so I hope!) be a risk of something we have an excellent word for in Norwegian: "Overtenning". Which means, roughly, "overspark" - an excessive level of fiery motivation leading to rash decisions.

It's been a mix of poor finishing by players and exceptional goal-keeping performances.

Really? If he's doing worse than ten Hag in that department, it'd be quite something as he's genuinely awful this season in-game and with his subs/tactical adjustments. Anything to do with the quality of your squad/subs?

From the sound of what you're saying, this might be a battle of attrition with the least knackered in the second half potentially swaying the game.

We can't match you for power or athleticism through midfield and I'm not sure how we intend to cater for that; it's not like we've been able to play any marginally decent side of the park, so it lends itself to a lot of questions. We can't even bypass midfield by going longer unless we have a rapid attack who can force you to sit deep and prevent you squeezing the pitch.

Really hard one to even predict in terms of approach let alone personnel. I can't even say whether it's better for us to go at you or rely on you getting sidetracked and carried away emotionally to burn yourselves out and then attempt to exploit the adrenaline dump.

Oh lord, is the international break over so soon??

Physicality will be the beating of this soft as shit United team

Just seen that Everton fans are planning an atmosphere march (no idea?) before the game and a number of in game protests against the Premier League!

Could end up being more entertaining off the pitch!

I'm a little worried it might get called off like your game did a few years back.

Not really. Took 400 lads coordination at the Lowry and a national pandemic to get that game off.

I don't think the PL would want to take any further risk than necessary in what is already going to be a high pressure environment.

I trust in Everton fans to be sensible and peaceful but there is a slight worry from the cynic in me that some will take it too far.

I don't want to be too pedantic here but on what basis will this get called off?

Our game was called off as we had a coordinated group box in the players at the hotel during a time of national quarantine - while we simultaneously had 10k outside the ground breaking in. Again during a time of quarantine protocols.

    Very unique situation.

There are planned protests before, during and after the game. If the absolute worst happens and idiots take it too far and endanger safety of players/officials etc. due to that then there is your basis. I don't think it will but the cynic in me worries for that tiny percentage.

They want to cover up the protests but be funny to see how Sky would spin 90 minutes of both sets of fans chanting about those 115 charges.

Everton are obsessed with their own injustice. I hope our end ignores it and focuses on the cheating dickheads down the road.
