VAR was completely right. Read FIFA Law 11: Offside. “Interference with play” part. Everton is tough fixture, draw is not that bad. Ole tactical change didn’t work. We could’ve won this match with MCT on the porch and diamond formation, in my opinion.

I don’t think that’s clear at all. If it had been my team I’d have been livid to be honest.

But the offside player was directly in DDG's line-of-sight, thus obstructing play.

It was an easy decision for VAR. I'm not sure what you are arguing against mate, sorry.

That ref is shocking. Never a goal at the end but he stopped the game at every fecking opportunity in general.
Agree awful ref, spoilt the game, influenced by the crowd on more than one occasion, the goal at the end was always going to be ruled out, you can't have a player offside blocking the keepers vision, even if it took a deflection, thought it was fair result at the end, ohh DDG, what you doing man.

Could somebody explain to me why throwing Mata in such physical game?
We needed somebody to help create a goal and Mata links up well with Bruno. It was a bit of Hail Mary move, because our bench is so thin. Could have worked, with more time.

    erm, yes?

Nope. Since coming back from the break, Fred has played against Chelsea, Watford, Brugge and Everton today. Watford wasnt his usual standard he's set, but was still good. Today he was quite poor, but that's more or less the only game.

    Was MOTM vs Brugge too.

Fred was visibly fatigued. We definitely should not play him in the next game.

Matic is my MOTM. McGuire and Shaw are my runner's up. Fred was brutal, especially in the second half. Martial and Greenwood were mostly passengers.

Agree. DDG cost us a stupid goal, but Martial and Greenwood being passengers (plus fatigued Fred) is what cost us the match.

I think you misread my post. I said first half vs second half, “the break” being HT.

How many times have I heard that before?!!

Yeh seems like every game is almost a must win considering we are so close to Chelsea.

I guess a point is better than nothing. I predicted a loss. City next.....

Can’t really be bothered to debate this. I just don’t think it’s evident at all from the clips I’ve seen that Sigurdsson affects the course at all. There’s no way DDG adjusts quickly enough to save it if Sigurdsson isn’t there. One way or another we were lucky with that situation.

that second half was annoying after a halfway fluent first half where we got screwed by a ddg error. i wouldn't have minded not winning if we had played a bit better and created one or 2 chances but we never got going. After the midweek game and last weekend this was a bit of a comedown.

yes but the technicality states that if a player who is offside and is deemed to be interfering - see obstructing the view here - with play a goal can be ruled out. it doesn't say that all deflected goals or goals where the keeper can't see where the ball is being shot from should be overruled.

Guess 1-1 is fair given the howler we started off with.. missed opportunity but we showed some character.

It came off our defender, so how is that offside?
The offside law was changed a couple years ago with this kind of thing in mind. Previously, if the ball touched a defender (even the heel) it would then nullify any offside up to that point. The new version of the law draws a distinction between if a player tries to play the ball or if the knew nothing about it. In today's case, Maguire did not try to play the ball and it ricocheted off his heel. If he had swung a boot at it and it struck his standing leg or something, no offside. It used to be that if a defender was, say, running with his back to the ball and a pass bounced off him to an attacker, that attacker would be onside. They changed it.

They should go back to offside whether interfering with play or not. I know it can, very occasionally be frustrating when genuinely not interfering but just stay onside ffs. Cuts out all this other shite.

purely by being there, this guy was interfering with play, because Dave had to guess what an offside player was going to do. Aside from the fact that they could’ve had two players sent off and they repeatedly fell over and kick, barged... anything they could to spoil the flow of the game. The ref did his best to facilitate this. Deserved at least a point despite the awful 2nd half.

Ighalo did everything right there. Just a great reaction from the keeper.

Yeah I keep telling myself that because if I didn't I would be going mad until the City game next Sunday thinking what might have been and that isn't healthy

We’d have been destroyed in a game like that 12 months ago

Shite in the second half but battled hard for a point - and it’s not a bad point really

Can see them turning over Chelsea next week

Wouldnt be suprised for them to revert to their «normal» state after raising their game against us. Just like every time.

They've been playing well since Ancellotti came in and are on a great run of form. They've only narrowly list to City and Arsenal in that time and the Arsenal game could have gone either way.

This wasn't some flash in the pan performance. They should beat Chelsea next week.

Think since they hired Ancellotti they've won the 3rd most amount of points in the league, behind City and Liverpool.

Shame we never got to face them with Silva in charge this season.

    simple as.

To interfere with play his actions have to have made a difference. That's the definition of interfere, essentially. He made no difference. DDG could A) see the ball fine and B) had no chance to make the save, with or without Sig. We got very lucky, not least because he was only there because AWB took him down late in the first place.
