The only reason I can think of is pace on the counter. With Ibra as the striker and only 3 up top, you can't play Mata if you want to counter attack. There's too few runners in that team.

I think a 433 is far more suited in a game like this than a 4231, tactically no Mata makes sense IMO.

This feels odd.

Over the past 3 years I've approached United games with an air of uncertainty. 'Hopefully we'll get something out of the game' and when they inevitably crumble it makes the bump down to earth a little less painful due to my skepticism pre-match.

However, now I'm getting this strange feeling I haven't felt in years. Confidence in my team? Bizarre!

I'm putting confidence in them and will be watching whilst making a lasagne...(the lasagne is the dampener of the bump down to earth).

I feel a tad sorry for Mata. He's been our best player this season he just does not suit our best team which is annoying in ways. I wish he could be in the team, but no matter what he does he just doesn't suit the 4-3-3 as well as he fits the 4-2-3-1 which puts our best player in Pogba at a disadvantage.
