The big boys will be back and we will get our season well and truly rolling. 3-0!

Early predicted lineup (as much as I hate to say it, I think it will be 3-4-3)

    ________________________________________________________________

    1. De Gea

    4. Jones 12. Smalling 42. Blackett

    25. Valencia 24. Fletcher 7. Di Maria 18. Young
    8. Mata

    20. Van Persie 10. Rooney

    _________________________________________________________________

    Bench:
    40. Amos, 5. Rojo, 23. Cleverley, 21. Herrera, 44. Pereira, 11. Januzaj, 49. Wilson

I've said this every time since Swansea, hopefully it works this time otherwise I'll stop.

    *Clears throat*

    We go again.

Irrespective of how lackadaisical we've looked in the last three games, I'm not going to let myself miss out on riding the Di Maria wave!

4-0 to United, Di Maria to score one, make two, and kick start our season. :nervous:

Picking a line-up for this will be interesting.

Carrick and Shaw definitely still out. Question marks over Rafael, Herrera and Smalling. Welbeck, Evans, and Valencia all back for sure now we know. Rojo and Di Maria should be available.

    No kagawa? on the bench??

What sort of team could we put out in 4-3-3?

    Something like this maybe:

    -------------- De Gea

    Rafael - Smalling - Jones - Rojo

    -- Cleverley - Fletcher - ADM --

    --------------- Mata -------------

    -------- RVP --------- Rooney --

It's clear we just don't have the quality in key positions to play 3-5-2 at the moment and certainly not the depth.

Welbeck, Evans and Chicharito shouldn't even make the bench for this one based on tonight.

No 352 and can't see us winning this 1-1 or 3-1 burnley, my honest opinion not just for the sake of pessimism.

You are kidding right? What can Di Maria possibly do if you play him at CM? <smh>

4-3-3 please and drop Rooney. RVP up top with Di Maria and Januzaj on the wings. Can't be bothered arguing why drop Rooney etc, would just like to see it.

Di Maria said he thinks he's going to play on the left of a midfield 3 at Utd. Also, Di Maria played the majority of last season in midfield.

Rather rooney over januzaj but i agree otherwise, 4-3-3 please or atleast a 4-2-3-1 even shot rooney in the middle with cleverley or fletch just don't start both.

Going to be a mighty nervy one and they are likely to fly out of the blocks like they did vs Chelsea. Hoping we will be boosted both ability wise and confidence wise by Di Maria. Would love any sort of scrappy win, gone for 1-0 United.

Why Rooney when RVP looked rusty? Simply don't get the Rooney hate

Turf Moor is a tough place to go and they have lost the opening two games and they know we are low on confidence.

The crowd will be up for it. I am thinking a draw. We need to regroup after the Intl break and push on from there. Too many distractions/injuries now to deal with.

Yeah he shared the mid-field with Xabi Alonso and Modric because RM had CR and Bale in the front. We actually bought Di Maria to add pace to our game and he has to take the responsibility of creating chances from the right. I think it would be better to just play him as RW.

Di Maria factor will inspire you to a win here as Burnley are pretty terrible.

    Going for 0-3 Rooneyx2 and RVP x1

3-0, first win for LvG, class debut for Di Maria and 4-3-3/4-4-2 diamond :)

I just think RVP is a better goalscorer. RVP stays up top and will be there to receive the assists from Di Maria more then Rooney. Not Rooney hate, just think Rooney is not as good in the hole as Mata, not as good up front as RVP and not as good on the wings as Di Maria. The spot he could probably take is the other wing instead of Januzaj.

If we're forced to play last seasons XI like we were against Sunderland then it could be more of the same however get the new boys in and it should be a different story

Again, 18% of "fans" voted for 5-0 to Burnley....this site is full of trolls and miserable kunts.

It's not down to what we think. I'm predicting based on what I believe the manager is thinking and judging off Di Maria's comments, Van Gaal has signed him to play as the LCM. Not sure why Alonso and Modric make a difference because you could compare Alonso to Fletcher in the role they play and similarly you could compare Modric to Mata in the role he plays at Madrid (though this season, it looks like he will play further back the pitch).

I hope for the same. Instead Blackett as LB or Smalling as CB I hope Rojo is ready. Blackett looks decent so far, so no problem if he starts as CB.

Its incredibly obvious we're going to play 3-4-1-2 or 3-4-3. Stop posting your nonsense formations and be realistic for one minute.

Gota get a couple quality defensive players in so they can play at Burnley. City proved in buying fernando there is quality out there without breaking the bank.

Imo our midfield is worse than the defence they give zero protection and give nothing creative.

This week is one of the biggest in our clubs history

Did he really say midfield 3?

Yes, unless his translator is incompetent. He said that he played on the left of the midfield 3 for Madrid last season and that he thinks he'll play there for Utd also.
