    8/11

Thought this was on at 1pm. Was going to miss the second half, now I can watch the entire match. Whoohoo!

People love overreacting about players fatigue in games. Some people are acting as if some players will need wheelchairs to move for the game on Sunday due to playing today.

They're perfectly able to play today AND Sunday, so these talks of resting x or y player are non senses.
Someone could get injured as well.. don't think it's a risk worth taking.. not only for the finals but because we still have a lot of games to go

Also, no disrespect to them, but we are playing Southampton and not Chelsea. It's a cup final so of course things can go out the window, but some people are panicking a bit here. Jose wants to start pretty strong to stop them getting any hope and a foothold in the tie, then when the job is (hopefully) done, he makes the subs and the team can play at training pace as they will be deflated by that point in the match. Rested players, momentum continues.

So that's the plan anyway... Hope not cursed them now :D

Is this on the radio? can't find anywhere to listen to the commentary.

It's not fatigue that's the biggest issue, it's injuries...

How can people after Mkhitaryan and Martial continue to say a player is 'done' when they are currently not playing?

Jose wants Shaw to step it up, if he has the right character and drive he will and he'll get back into the starting 11.

Back quite a few years ago now we went through a 6 month period were every week there was a new player SAF had fallen out with and was going to be sold. On the Talking Reds forum we went back and figured out that if all the stories were true it would mean that something like 70% of our players were on their way out. Funny thing was there were people who believed each and every story.

I'm calling shenanigans on anyone scoring more than 6.

Of course, I totally agree. But you can see, like today, that Mourinho is totally willing to sacrifice the 4-2-3-1 for pragmatic reasons.

It will be harder to do that though if Griezmann comes in the summer I think, and I wouldn't mind it so much if we had a proper CM to cover Herrera.

    5/11

Why are we using so many players who will start in the cup final here? Very strange.
Not really as far as Jose is concerned. So far he's been a bit overkill in his line ups.
Better safe than sorry approach. After seeing all our league cup (or cup in general) line ups this season it should really come as no surprise.

Wish we'd give Young a go at LB.

Nothing really, just that listening to commentary on a radio seems a bit old school.

Well i don't have a TV in my car on the way home from work... being a 5pm kick off - i'd imagine many others fans are in the same boat.

You can't just not play people in case they get injured? Also this game is not as easy as people seem to think it is, that's why Jose is playing who he is and how he is. If for example we went two goals down with a weak team out, the advantage would be with them. Maybe we should play the under sixteens in case anyone gets injured? ;)

Just stay in the pub drinking, the match will come at some stage!
You are going to have to contain yourself for another 24 hours.:)
You might meet some cleaners, and maybe the postman at some point. Don't mind them.

Thanks lads. As if I didn’t get enough ribbing yesterday evening . Thankfully Wednesday has 'finally' arrived and I am off to the pub ‘again’

That looks like a decent enough team and should be strong enough to ensure our 1st leg advantage will be sufficiently adequate to get us into the next round.

I think we had to go along with playing Pogba as Herrera is suspended. Zlatan’s could have done with being on the bench as I think he is crucial for Sunday’s final. However, I think with the three goals he scored last week; Saint-Etienne will keep an extra eye on him which should help Mkhitaryan.

The team seems a little slow considering Saint-Etienne’s quick counter attacks last week; however that said the team looks strong and defensive enough to see us through. Besides I have a feeling Mkhi will score :p

Half the team had a good rest against Blackburn and he's giving a few a run out today to keep momentum up. We should be playing this whole game in second gear so I don't see the problem.

8/11 meh. Had DDG, Martial, Rojo, oh well....
This is first game in ages that I won't be able to watch, I will be refreshing this thread, and patiently waiting for your updates and hopefully Gif Lords videos of our goals.
So if you write "feck" you have to explain what it means, what happened, or I will be in tears, bitting my nails.
My doctor said no stress, bugger!

If we get the away goal 1st half, I think that should put us through comfortably. Will be 4 goals on aggregate with away goal, so they would need 5 to beat us (if my knowledge of the rules is correct).

You are correct. We need an away goal in the first half and it shouldn't be too taxing a game.

I've got a picture in my mind that he's sitting in an air raid shelter rocking a pilots moustache and has powdered egg for tea. Jolly good!

    :D

How is this funny? i said i'd be driving home from work.

Got 8/11 in in the line up prediction, not bad. I still don't see why Fellaini always starts ahead of Basti. Not now, not ever.

Otherwise pretty strong team. If we get a goal in the first half, Jose will ring the changes early in the 2nd. Looking forward to kick off

Yeah its not guaranteed, but romero is first choice in the cups, although to be honest I think for sunday it will be dave.

Romero has recently become more preferred in cup games. Like I said, out of our 15 cup games before this, De Gea played 7 of them. Also, I am sure Zlatan, Pogba and co. will be playing Sunday game as well so Jose isn't too concerned about resting his goalkeeper I am sure.

I know we are in good hands with Romero though.

A bit disappointed that one or more of our youngsters did not make at least the squad, but not really surprised. Would like to see TFM on the bench for the final on the weekend, then if we can put the game away get him a run out in a final, good experience for him.

Wish we'd give Young a go at LB.
Personally I agree. But Mourinho wants one attacking fullback and one playing more defensively, which is why we won't play both Young and Valencia at the same time. That does mean that now that he's got himself into the team and done quite well, Young will probably play every game that Valencia doesn't. Whereas previously we'd play Darmian on the right and end up with no attacking threat from either side.

Don't really like we're playing 7 guys who are most certainly playing on Sunday. We should take Mourinho rest of the week complaining about Southampton's vacation before the final with a bit of salt.
