With spirits high, I can see a draw or a defeat here particularly as we already embarrassed them at home earlier this season. I'll be disappointed if it happens but I can't complain after PSG.

We don’t actually have that good a record there. It’s a bit misleading since we’ve won under Jose and LVG
Maybe not. Just feels like it with those wins under SAF too with those counter attack wins. I don't know the actual numbers. Curious what our record is for the last 13 yrs or so since 2006 when that team with Ronaldo and Rooney took off.

Played 14 at the Emirates - won 6, drawn 3, lost 5. That's a pretty good record to me, away from home to a team that until recently was consistently in the top 4.

We have lost 9/13 played on a Sunday
Arsenal haven’t lost twice to the same opponents at home for a while

So given all that. I’m predicting a win for us!

Haha. Good one. Another way of looking at numbers. Point taken.

We don't exactly know Gomes' role yet. Nicky Butt mentioned that United see him as a midfielder tasked with keeping possession, but he plays as an attacker for the u23s and his brief first team appearances. So do we go with what Butt said and the five u19 appearances? Or do we go with where he plays outside of that?

Chong plays completely different from Gomes, and fits Ole's system better than Gomes. He's someone who will run at defenders non stop and he has more pace. Gomes is more of a patient cerebral player.

But it's pretty much a fact that Gomes has outperformed Chong for the youth teams this season. So it can't be based on their performances for the youth teams. Ole has yet to really watch a United youth match live. Maybe it is based on their trainings, but I struggle to see why that doesn't translate to the youth matches or the first team minutes. However brief it was for Gomes, he looked more composed than Chong did.
I expect central players to perform better in Sbragia's system which favours players like Gomes. Chong has actually suffered due to playing under Sbragia and being isolated in many games without passing options.

I think the Coaching staff will have a good idea what Gomes's best position is, rest assured. And I'm sure we'll see him get a opportunity soon enough.

I think the reason a few on here (including myself) are a bit worried about this game is simply because we think OGS’s amazing run has to come to an end at some point.

That’s what post SAF United has done to us. So many false dawns.

It’s just all too good to be true really isn’t it?

There are not many logical reasons why we shouldn’t win this game though.

I'm nervous today. We really need the lads to concentrate.

I'm going with 2-4 to us. Game will start off hectic but we'll score 2 in the first 20 minutes. Arsenal will then batter us for the rest of the half. We'll come out in the second and Arsenal will carry on their momentum and score 1. Quickly after that we'll score the next goal completely killing the game. We'll get another one shortly afterwards. Arsenal will get a consolatory near the end. feck logic. We're Manchester United and we're back to defying it.

Arsenal had one less day of a rest and lost their last match. On the other hand, we won all away games under OGS...

Big ask to win twice at Arsenal in as many months, also feel it would be a mistake to go with Lukaku centrally against Sokratis (would prefer Rashford through the middle)

    I reckon 1-1 draw

Same tactics. Arsenal are top six fodder. Let em run and pass the ball around, and we'll pick em off on the counter. 2:1 to us.

Lot of negativity on this board for today. Thought this place would be buzzing with confidence after Wednesday night..

Predicted 0-5 against PSG and that worked out well so I'm gonna go for it again

Opposition coming off a good result - the caf: "they'll be confident after their win, I don't fancy our chances"

Opposition coming off a bad result - the caf: "they'll bounce back after that, I don't fancy our chances"

We never learned, be optimistic and get burned. Rather be a miserable fool and get positively surprised.

Feeling confident today of a win although won’t be disappointed with a draw either.

    Starting XI:

    De Gea

    Young
    Smalling
    Lindelof
    Shaw

    A.Pereira
    McTominay
    Pogba

    Dalot
    Lukaku
    Rashford

    subs:

    Romero
    Bailly
    Rojo
    Matic
    Fred
    Chong
    Greenwood
    Martial

    Score prediction:
    Arsenal 2-3 Manchester United

    Goalscorers:
Kolasinac & Iwobi for them, Rashford, Pogba & Lukaku for us

Went with McTominay, Matic and Pogba midfield. Hard to pick a team though, not sure if Matic is ready to come back straight into a game like this.

    this

can't even argue with Lukaku playing central either such is the turn around in recent games.

    Yes you can

Sokratis completely dominated Kane last week, we need to put a more skilful player against him/through the middle

Im nervous, dont think we will win.
Whenever we play the same team twice in different competitions in a short amount of time,it just always seems like if we win the first match,we draw or lose the second game.

    I predicted 2-2.
Rashford and Lukaku with our goals.

I have changed my team selection about ten times, there are a lot of options.

Such a change from the days of the paid-off one when I could barely find a player you would want to see on the pitch.

Kane and Lukaku are very different players.

Not really, Sokratis vs either equals a physical contest. Stick Rashford against him he'll have someone running at and behind him

the thing is for his recent goals I wouldn't even say Rom primarily relied on an element of skill. He was simply right place right time, with a superb finish. It's about finding the space and simply "shoot" as Ole would say. If he's out wide he'll have less chance of having that one "just shoot" chance.

So despite shuffling Rashford out wide, I do believe we have to stand by Rom's recent goal tally and let him have the middle.

Despite this they might even switch from time to time. If Arsenal turn up with a back 4 it'll be best to have Rashford left to get in behind their RB. If they do a back 5 it's going to be tough anyway but perhaps then it's best to have Rashford central. Small margins imo.

Don't forget Sokratis was the reason Arsenal lost 1-3 to Rennes the other day. He can be gotten at today.

I changed my lineup and put Matic in for Scott with Fred and Pogba. Have Dalot starting on RW too. Don’t think Martial will start.

Lukaku is far more explosive. He often runs in behind and at defenders. Rashford, as far as I'm concerned, still struggles against big physical defenders.

Oh absolutely he may not be the weak link back there but he ain't great himself, that's why I want Rashford through the middle though. Shame Lingard isn't fit

    De Gea
    Young - Smalling - Lindelöf - Shaw
    Fred - Matic - Pogba
    Rashford - Lukaku - Martial

This should be a comfortable win, Smalling will take care of Aubameyang and our front trio will destroy the Arsenal defense.

    Yeah not seeing it

go into it with hope. after all these weeks of fantastic results if we lose one...well we take it on the chin don't we!

if this isn't the time to go into this with unwavering hope, then i don't know when is.

it's going to be a battle for sure as it's important. but they call it a 6 pointer yet we'd only be 3 behind them if we lost. it is not the be all and end all.

    1-1 or 2-1 to us.

    Lacazette, Rashford, (Lukaku)
