    Pre-Match Pressers

    Louis Van Gaal

    Dick Advocaat (N/A)

"Normally United would beat us but we can give them a really tough time. That will happen, you will see," said Advocaat, who did concede a draw would be "a great result".

"You have nothing to lose against United and if we are well organised, and try to hurt them a bit, then why not?

"Against City we created three or four chances and a little bit the same against Spurs. We will have opportunities to score."

Advocaat and van Gaal played together at Sparta Rotterdam and have faced each other 10 times as managers, with the Sunderland boss losing just once.

But Advocaat said: "He's one of the best coaches in the world, no doubt about that. He has worked at the highest levels in Europe.

"He is a manager who does not just look for the easy way, he is always looking for the most difficult way. If you see his prize list, it is unbelievable, so I rate him very highly."

Advocaat brought in several new players after deciding to stay on as Sunderland boss in the summer and is still waiting for his new-look side to gel.

He said: "I still think, with my experience, that if you bring in players it takes time. They need to get used to the league and the team.

"Last season we did a great job and everybody was positive, but we're still positive and we have a better squad than last season."

Sunderland AFC nicknamed The Black Cats, are a professional football club based in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, England; and were founded in 1879 as Sunderland and District Teachers Association Football Club by James Allan. Although they haven't been competitive in recent seasons, Sunderland were one of the most successful clubs in the nation through the late 19th century, and the early parts of the 20th, winning 6 league championships between 1892 and 1936, and were termed the 'Team of All Talents' at the turn of the 20th century; aside from winning the FA Cup twice and the League Cup once. The club plays its home games at the Stadium of Light, and has a long-standing sporting rivalry with neighbors Newcastle United in a match termed the Tyne-Wear Derby.

Really want a big win but I can't see it, we always struggle (but still win) against Sunderland. Comfortable 2-0 win for me.

Really want a big win but I can't see it, we always struggle (but still win) against Sunderland. Close 2-0 win for me.

Yep generally only 1 goal in it in the games against Sunderland at OT

    de Gea

    Valencia - Smalling - Blind - Darmian

    Carrick - Schweinsteiger

    Mata - Rooney - Memphis

    Martial

They'll come looking to park the bus, we'll pass it around in front of them for large majority of the game.

Hope we have enough creativity to break through a few times.

Can see one of their many mediocre players having the game of his life.

    de Gea

    Darmian
    Smalling
    Jones
    Blind

    Schneiderlin
    Schweinsteiger

    Mata
    Rooney
    Memphis

    Martial

SUBS: Romero, Valencia, Young, Carrick, Pereira, Herrera, Fellaini.

I would really use this game to try and boost our confidence. I would go full strength and very attacking. Throw Schneiderlin in to help protect the defence.

Memphis, Martial, Mata, Herrera, Schweinsteiger, Schneiderlin

Don't care how tight previous games against these lot have been, at the moment they're absolute scrap and we should be battering them. 4-0 United.

    De Gea
    Darmian Smalling Blind Young
    Schneiderlin Carrick
    Mata Rooney Memphis
    Martial

Pereira to come on for any of the front 4,
Let Schweinsteiger sit this one out and be fresh for Wolfsburg,
Try Darmian at LB for the last 20 minutes if things are going well with Valencia on at RB,
Wilson cameo if possible would be great

    De Gea
    Darmian Smalling Blind Rojo
    Schneiderlin Carrick
    Mata Rooney Memphis
    Henry
Hat trick martial, Rooney pen, Memphis with one. 5-0

    De Gea
    Darmain--Smalling--Blind--Young
    Carrick--Schneiderlin
    Mata--Rooney--Memphis
    Martial

subs: Romero, Valencia, Jones, Schweinsteiger, Herrera, Pereira, Fellaini/Wilson

Or Valencia in for Young & Darmian going to the left back slot.
If we get an early go we'll win comfortably, if not we'll only win by a single goal at best.

I would prefer Herrera in the team but we need a little more height and Schneiderlin was rested. Also I think we should save Basti for Wolfsburg.

    Early Predicted Line-up:
    _____________________________________________________________________

    1. de Gea

    36. Darmian 12. Smalling 17. Blind 18. Young

    31. Schweinsteiger 28. Schneiderlin

    8. Mata 10. Rooney 7. Memphis

    9. Martial
    ______________________________________________________________________

    Bench:
    20. Romero, 4. Jones, 25. Valencia, 16. Carrick, 21. Herrera, 44. Pereira, 27. Fellaini

Predicted Score: Man Utd 6-0 Sunderland (Martial X6 )

    I smell a 0-0

But I decided to be confident and put down 2-0 on the redcafe predictions

    1. de Gea

    36. Darmian 12. Smalling 17. Blind 18. Young

    31. Schweinsteiger 28. Schneiderlin

    8. Mata 10. Rooney 7. Memphis

    9. Martial

    Bench:
    20. Romero, 4. Jones, 25. Valencia, 16. Carrick, 21. Herrera, 44. Pereira, 27. Fellaini

Predicted Score: Man Utd 6-0 Sunderland (Martial X6 )

Yep. That's the team for me as well. I'll take Jones and Carrick too but have Herrera off the bench ahead of Pereira.

    4-0

    Martial 12" 26" 43" 68" 88"

Defensively they are a shambles but they've been decent going forward just haven't been finishing their chances.
If we don't get a goal in the first half it will be a difficult game. If we can get an early goal I think we'll batter them.

    I'd play

    De Gea
    Darmian - Smalling - Blind - Young
    Bastian - Morgan
    Pereira - Mata - Memphis
    Martial

Not what I think will happen though.

Sunderland have been absolute poop so far. Can't see anything other than a comfortable victory.

Anything less than a 2 goal winning margin isn't acceptable. These lot are a disgrace.

They'll come looking to park the bus, we'll pass it around in front of them for large majority of the game.

Hope we have enough creativity to break through a few times.

You have to have some fight to successfully park the bus. Sunderland lack that.

Go on, gamble on Herrera in CM. Put Schneiderlin next to him so there's some recovery pace in case we do get caught a bit short as a result, and trust that two hard working, keen tacklers in front of a very good back line is enough in a home game against Sunderland. With Rojo in for Shaw (:() the back four is particularly defensively-focussed, so we can afford to forgo the second DM.

    DDG
    Darmian Smalling Blind Rojo
    Herrera Schneiderlin
    Mata Rooney Depay
    Martial

I'd love to see Pereira to come on for Mata at some point, and - unlikely for LVG I know - Wilson on the bench as the 'shit, we need goals' option instead of Fellaini. Show some balls, Louis!
