Southampton Football Club (nicknamed The Saints) are a professional football club based in Southampton, Hampshire. Southampton were founded in 1885 by members of St Mary's Church of England Young Men's Association. St. Mary's Y.M.A., as they were usually referred to in the local press, played most of their early games on The Common where games were frequently interrupted by pedestrians insistent on exercising their right to roam. More important matches, such as cup games, were played either at the County Cricket Ground in Northlands Road or the Antelope Cricket Ground in St Mary's Road. The club was originally known as St. Mary's Young Men's Association F.C. (usually abbreviated to "St. Mary's Y.M.A.") and then became simply St. Mary's F.C. in 1887-88, before adopting the name Southampton St. Mary's when the club joined the Southern League in 1894.

Southampton play their home games at St. Mary's Stadium, and were one of the founding members of the Premier League in 1992. The club has a long-standing sporting rivalry with Portsmouth in a match termed the South Coast Derby or the Hampshire Derby. Southampton has received praise for employing an intense brand of football under Mauricio Pochettino, and having one of the best youth systems on English soil — which has churned out the likes of Alan Shearer, Gareth Bale, Matth Le Tissier, Theo Walcott, Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain, James Ward-Prowse, Calum Chambers, Adam Lallana over the years — as well as current Manchester United leftback, Luke Shaw.

I'll be in attendance for this game and it's a must win game for United regardless of the performance. Slightly concerned with having to play near 70 minutes with ten men tonight. Southampton won 3-0 today against a decent Swansea.

All I want is for us to match Southampton in effort. If we can do that, we should win.

Massive game now this I want to see the same fight as the last games

Now then, put in the same effort as we did in Anfield and Emirates and we should win. Let's build on these performances.

The way I’m feeling right now, I want us to absolute smash this game. Put it to bed by half time.

Hopefully the players are well rested for this match. Get a huge win here and we can create huge momentum after the Pool match and today's match.

Going to this one. Haven't won the last 4 games I've attended, so hopefully picked a safe one to break the curse  :nervous:

100 percent must win. Anything less just completely undermines all our effort over the last 2 games

This will be a big test. Can we put in a good performance when it's not against a big team? If so, then we really are turning a corner!

So full week break before the last 2 led to 2 excellent big game performances.. back to a mid week game, let's see if we can build some momentum now.

Is dalot suspended in the league or the cup? Either him or Mazraoui but Maz needs a rest IMO, Maguire too as he seemed to have a knock as he came off. Would go for this.

    Onana
    Yoro De Ligt Martinez
    Amad Ugarte Mainoo Dalot
    Garnacho Bruno
    Zirkzee

    Onana
    Yoro ----- Maguire ------Martinez
    Amad ----Ugarte ---- Mainoo-------Malacia
    Bruno ----- Garnacho
    Zirkzee

Only 3 players in that team that played the 120 minutes today.

Big game. This is the acid test when it comes to our mentality.

I like it... but think it is 3 with 120 minutes(?)

A different game this Vs the last 2, saints wont be going all out. We are at home we should be pushing for goals and to maintain the good performances.

Expect Onana & zirkzee to start,

I expect rotation here. I’d be happy to see Bayinder keep his spot after today.

    Bayinder
De Ligt - Maguire - Yoro
    Antony - Ugarte - Bruno - Malacia
    Amad - Zirkzee - Garnacho

We saw how frustrated Amorim was after the Liverpool game with the difference in attitude between that game and the ones preceding it, Southampton will be a test to see if we can take the attitude and application from the last two games and bring it out against a team who will offer a very different challenge.

Hopefully the players are on a high from todays result and we see a bit of confidence in this one, an early goal would go a long way.

The last 2 games means nothing if we don’t win this. 100% a must win.

I’d go with similar. Bruno can play CM in this one against weaker opposition. Also we should be using an attacking player on one of the wing back roles. No need to play 2 full backs.

If there were one match on the schedule from here on out for which you say, we should be smashing this easily, it's this one.

Anything less than a comfortable win is unacceptable.

Just win. Don't care about the performance. In league we need points and to win a game of football for a change.

Licha has been mostly fit this season but I worry about his injury record it after 120 mins played that he starts again, feel he's in more of a need of a rest than Maguire or De Ligt.

Completely different game. We are forced to have the ball a lot more, need to play a higher line, push players forward, try to breakdown their compact defensive box. A real test for Ruben.

    Onana
De Ligt - Maguire - Martinez
    Antony - Ugarte - Mainoo - Maz
    Amad - Hojlund - Bruno

imo the calls to put Bruno into CM are dead wrong. We have to suffocate any potential threat that Soton will bring and it's a great opportunity for Mainoo and Ugarte to figure out how to play together in a game which we are likely to have a lot of the ball in. Heavy rotation would be nuts. Stick with what works.

This is it, contain a difficult opponent away and putting together some breakways is one thing.

But needing to take the game to a poor outfit trying to do the same to us quite another.

Based purely on the pattern of false dawns over the past decade I'm expecting a loss here. But very much hope we really have turned a corner, and they put in the same level of energy and fight as they did against Arsenal and Liverpool

Is Dalot out? An Amad / Garnacho right side could be interesting.

I think Amad should start this instead of Dalot as WB we need an attacking team and there’s no need for 5 defensively minded players on the field as Southampton will just sit back

Now we need to win so badly and the team needs to prove they also give 100% against weaker teams!
