Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club, commonly known as Wolves or The Wanderers, is an English professional football club based in the city of Wolverhampton in the West Midlands. The club were founded as St. Luke's in 1877 by John Baynton and John Brodie, after a group of pupils at St Luke's Church school in Blakenhall had been presented with a football by their headmaster Harry Barcroft. Two years later, they merged with local cricket and football club The Wanderers, to form Wolverhampton Wanderers. The club then became one of the twelve founders of the English Football League in 1888 and finished the inaugural season in a creditable third place, as well as reaching their first ever FA Cup Final, losing 3–0 to the first Double winners, Preston North End.

The club spent 33 years in the top flight from 1932 to 1965, their longest continuous period at that level (albeit league football was in hiatus from 1939 to 1946 due to World War II). During the 1950s, the club was English league champions three times (1953–54, 1957–58 & 1958–59), whilst under the management of Stan Cullis. Wolves has also finished runners-up in the league on five occasions (most recently in 1959–60) and in third place on a further six occasions (most recently in 1960–61). On the domestic cup front, they have won the FA Cup four times, most recently in 1960, and has finished runners-up on a further four occasions, and the Football League Cup twice, in 1974 and 1980.

Wolves have long-standing rivalries with other West Midlands clubs; the main one is with West Bromwich Albion, against whom they contest the Black Country derby and with whom Wolves has played more league fixtures (146) than any other football opponent, even though the two clubs have not met in a league fixture since 2011–12 (the last season they competed in the same division as each other). Wolves also share rivalries with the two Birmingham clubs, Aston Villa and Birmingham City, though they are much further away than West Bromwich. They play their homes games at the Molineux Stadium, the first stadium ever built for use by a Football League club and one of the first British grounds to have floodlights installed and it hosted some of the earliest European club games in the 1950s.

We will almost certainly be outplayed. The hope is that we win in spite of this, which is very possible and has happened a few times already this season. Including against this lot.

We have the trip to Newport or Eastleigh before this match.

Hopefully we'll have a new manager installed before the trip to Molyneux.

    Away game? Decent opposition?

    Points dropped guaranteed.

    Heaton
    AWB. Maguire. Martinez. Shaw.
    Casemiro. Mainoo.
    Amad. Mount. Garnacho.
    Hojlund

I’d like to see this team, even just as an experiment, assuming they were all fit. I’m fed up watching the same spineless team every week.
Note, I’ve picked Maguire over Varane as pre-injury he was our best defender this season. I’ve picked AWB as we have no one else and Heaton as I’m assuming Onana will be away.

Hopefully Erik can be pragmatic here and find something that just works. Their physicallity was a problem last time and will be again.

Hopefully we'll have a new manager installed before the trip to Molyneux.

    Won't happen.
He'd have to lose at least 3 games in a row and even then, he might get to stay.
Realistically, ETH will keep winning 1-2 games and then losing 1-2 games.
This pattern will likely stay till the end of the season and keep him in a job until the Summer.

Should almost have a full hand to deal with squad wise for this one and after , so no more injury excuses.

Although I think most of us know that the issues go far beyond injuries and won't be holding out much hope for improvement.

    Onwards and upwards .

feck Newport for knocking us out at least now we can concentrate on the league.

The positive is we've looked slightly more threatening in the attacking third, and I think the front three of Rashford, Hojlund and Garnacho will start to score a few more goals. I would personally like to see Amad given a go, as I believe he will bring more creativity and better decision making the last phase.

Along with that, Martinez, Casemiro and Mount are back. Whilst I don't expect Mount to start, we'll probably see Martinez, who obviously came on against Spurs, and Casemiro, who, surprisingly didn't feature last week.

In an ideal world, I'd like to see a 4231, with Casemiro (ball winner) and Mainoo (ball player) as a pivot, but ten Hag wants to play with two number 8's, and it seems the aforementioned players are only viewed as deep-lying players.

With that in mind, I like the idea of having Mainoo as a single pivot. Not only has he got the legs to cover the ground, he displays a much needed calmness in midfield.

Bruno, despite his erratic nature, is a given, so that leaves space for one more. This is where we needed a Modric type of player, but as it stands, we have Mount, Eriksen and McTominay who typically play in the 8 role.

Due to physicality of Wolves, I'd opt for McTominay, with Mount potentially coming on for around 20-30 minutes.

    Rashford-Hojlund-Garnacho
    -----------------Bruno
    -------Casemiro-Mainoo
    Shaw-Martinez-Varane-Dalot
    ‐------------------Bayindir

Bench: Heaton, Amad, Antony, Mount, Eriksen, McTominay, Lindelof, Maguire, AWB

    Rashford-Hojlund-Garnacho
    -----------------Bruno
    -------Casemiro-Mainoo
    Shaw-Martinez-Varane-Dalot
    ‐------------------Bayindir

Bench: Heaton, Amad, Antony, Mount, Eriksen, McTominay, Lindelof, Maguire, AWB
Three goalkeepers, Bruno the sweeper and Bayindir as number 9 will certainly confuse Wolves.

I managed to forget Utd didn't have a game this weekend, and it is not even an international weekend when everyone has to suffer.
