Aston Villa Football Club (nicknamed Villa, The Villa, The Villans, and The Lions) is a professional football club based in Aston, Birmingham. The club were formed in March 1874, by four members of the Villa Cross Wesleyan Chapel. The four founders were Jack Hughes, Frederick Matthews, Walter Price and William Scattergood. The first match was against the local Aston Brook St Mary's Rugby team. The club were soon playing the modern version of football though and won its first FA Cup in 1887. Aston Villa were one of the dozen teams that competed in the inaugural Football League in 1888 with one of the club's directors, William McGregor being the league's founder. Aston Villa emerged as the most successful English club of the Victorian era

Villa are one of only five English clubs to have won the European Cup, in 1981–82. They have also won the Football League First Division seven times, the FA Cup seven times, the League Cup five times, and the UEFA Super Cup once. At the end of the 2018–19 season, Aston Villa had also spent 105 seasons in the top tier of English football. The only club to have spent longer in the top flight are Everton, with 116 seasons, making Aston Villa versus Everton the most-played fixture in English top-flight football. Aston Villa's arch-rivals are Birmingham City, with games between the two clubs known as the Second City Derby. Historically though, West Bromwich Albion have arguably been Villa's greatest rivals. Villa also enjoy less heated local rivalries with Wolverhampton Wanderers and Coventry City. Aston Villa have been playing their home games at Villa Park since 1897.

    Awful gash performance tonight

Gerrard and Villa will be looking for revenge after unluckily getting knocked out of the cup. They'll be up for it and confident to end United's slim top 4 hopes. Having the last laugh.

very unlucky Aston Villa tonight they deserved more. Gerrard couldn't do a wild celebration at Villa scoring a goal. I'm sure he will be have something to celebrate on Saturday.

Lower league clobber striker Danny Ings had "Champions League Varane" and Lindelof on toast.

I can't see anything other than a comfortable defeat. We're terrible.

Gerrards pre match team talk quite easy

Also We won’t have McT or Shaw, our two best outfield players tonight

Hoping for a smash and grab, cant see us winning any other way. They run us into the ground by the 60 min mark then back to goal from there on in.

Drop Rashford, Bruno, Cavani and Greenwood.. awful body language

    play Elanga and Donny

Tighter game on weekend, Mctom and Fred will start again, in CM , Ronny back in, Rashford can't see him starting, it's Sancho probably, Same back 4 maybe Maguire back in and AWB, you lose some forward impotence with AWB but gain the defensive side.
Elanga for me to come on again I love this kid, easy win for Villa any way that's what most are already saying. Villa Park is a good ground for UTD. Let's keep it that way.

Anyone know how we got on against them last time?

    Eh, they'll batter us.
    Sancho Cavani Greenwood
    Fred McTominay Bruno
    Shaw Varane Lindelof Dalot
    De Gea

I'd say Rashford needs the most dropping. Midfield 3 and Varane are probably the easiest to pick, not that they're amazing, but I don't think I can question their attitude while they're also probably the best players for those positions anyway.

McT is a huge loss for this one. The only player right now, other than DDG, to have had a few decent games recently.

    McTominay and Shaw are suspended.

Genuinely fear this will be a bit of a hiding.

2 away games under Ragnick at Norwich and Newcastle, two worst teams in the league, and we were outplayed in both. Villa are a genuinely decent team.

    3-1 Villa

I think we should organise a drinking game for this one, might as well have a bit of craic watching this shite.

Take a drink everytime a Man Utd player fails at a simple pass.

Take a drink everytime Aston Villa effortlessly break through Man Utd's midfield.

Take a drink everytime de Gea touches the ball, goal kicks count.

    Be pissed before halftime.

    Would hazard a guess at;

    De Gea
    Dalot - Lindelof - Varane - Telles
    Fred - Matic
    Greenwood - Bruno - Sancho
    Ronaldo

If Ronaldo played like Cavani did tonight he would get massive criticism. But whatever agendas again.. besides Cavani will get an injury soon as sadly he can't stay fit or psychologically is a problem..

Rashford needs the most dropping but you've dropped Ronaldo..

    3-1 Villa.

Bookies are finally copping on with the prices against us.

Villa will be owed a big decision or two as well.

Bruno needs dropping or play as one of the 2 upfront. We looked much better with 3 in midfield after Donny came on even Rangnick said after tonight's game we had more control of the midfield when Donny came on. Hint to Saturday hopefully

My team I want to see:

    DDG

    Wan-Basaka
    Varane
    Lindelof
    Shaw

    Fred
    Matic

    Donny
    Sancho/Lingard

    Bruno
    Ronaldo

that would give us plenty of control in midfield to win the game.

    DDG
    Dalot Maguire Varane Shaw
    Fred DVB
    Lingard Sancho
    Greenwood Ronaldo
This is what i'd like to see.

Would like to see a 433

    DDG
    AWB
    LINDELOF
    VARANE
    SHAW
    BRUNO
    MATIC
    FRED
    SANCHO
    RONALDO
    RASHFORD

Maybe this could lead to some semblance of control and keeping the ball, who knows? Matic the only player in our squad good enough to play holding midfielder which is damning.

Bruno slightly withdrawn from the 10 helping out.

    We are getting hammered.

Best hope is to score a goal and just hold out for the win.

Don’t think we stand a chance of winning this one. A draw would be great.

We need to win this, I don’t know how after we saw that horrible performance of today!

When we can play constant decent football? we are so dire and never up for it. The body language of some of the players I never seen in a winning team.

    DDG

    Dalot
    Lindelof
    Varane
    Telles

    Fred
    VDB (he will pick Matic)

    Sancho
    Lingard (he will pick Bruno)

    Greenwood
    Ronaldo

If we play like we have the last two games, we will get beat 2 or 3 nil. Gerrard will have them so up for it in front of a raucous villa park. I’m going to watch this hugging a crate of strong lager.

We got found out a bit tonight, especially centrally. A change in midfield obviously as McSauce is out. But more bodies needed in the centre of the pitch. Wouldn't be surprised to see Matic, Fred, Bruno & Donny starting this one.

We play football as individuals , it’s so difficult to watch it. I’m in the away end full of alcohol hoping to numb the pain

Play a 4-3-3 or three at the back or something. Sancho ronaldo and Greenwood up front.

We are getting battered anyway i feel.
