Aston Villa Football Club (nicknamed Villa, The Villa, The Villans, and The Lions) is a professional football club based in Aston, Birmingham. The club were formed in March 1874, by four members of the Villa Cross Wesleyan Chapel. The four founders were Jack Hughes, Frederick Matthews, Walter Price and William Scattergood. The first match was against the local Aston Brook St Mary's Rugby team. The club were soon playing the modern version of football though and won its first FA Cup in 1887. Aston Villa were one of the dozen teams that competed in the inaugural Football League in 1888 with one of the club's directors, William McGregor being the league's founder. Aston Villa emerged as the most successful English club of the Victorian era

Villa are one of only five English clubs to have won the European Cup, in 1981–82. They have also won the Football League First Division seven times, the FA Cup seven times, the League Cup five times, and the UEFA Super Cup once. At the end of the 2018–19 season, Aston Villa had also spent 105 seasons in the top tier of English football. The only club to have spent longer in the top flight are Everton, with 116 seasons, making Aston Villa versus Everton the most-played fixture in English top-flight football. Aston Villa's arch-rivals are Birmingham City, with games between the two clubs known as the Second City Derby. Historically though, West Bromwich Albion have arguably been Villa's greatest rivals. Villa also enjoy less heated local rivalries with Wolverhampton Wanderers and Coventry City. Aston Villa have been playing their home games at Villa Park since 1897.

Is this on UK tv folks?

    Nope

1st time in years a Utd game hasn’t been available In Ireland (we get 3pm games on Premier Sports)

Moved because the Courteeners are playing in the cricket ground

    Good band in fairness

Not on sky, nor bt nor premier sports.

    Ridiculous really.

    This is ridiculous really.

Macheda to come on and fulfill what should have been. He scores and leads us to Premier league glory with the colourful boots that he was never allowed to wear for the youth team

It was originally scheduled to be on Premier until it got moved
I’m not sure but if it’s not on at 3 then why aren’t they showing it. Then they wonder why people stream.

Premier i assume only have the rights to one 3pm kickoff. It was going to be shown but then the kick off time was moved to 12.30 because of some concert. Stupid really.

Definitely don't want Sancho starting after his performance against West Ham tonight. I think it'll be the same as last match:

    de Gea

    AWB Varane Maguire Shaw

    McTominay Fred

    Greenwood Bruno Pogba

    Ronaldo

Since clean sheets are apparently impossible, Man Utd 2-1 Aston Villa (Ronaldo, Greenwood)

I don’t think he will start

But I was pleased Sancho improved a little as the night went on, he didn’t hide which was good

First time back at Old Trafford since pre-Covid. I’m so excited, especially with Ronaldo returning. There should be a good buzz. I hope we win.

    De Gea
    AWB - Varane - Maguire - Shaw
    McTominay - Fred
    Greenwood - Bruno - Pogba
    Ronaldo

A must win obviously but I'd also like to see a good performance for a change.

Honestly, I thought he was awful in a game where West Ham didn't press us and he should have had loads of space to influence the game. The game against Newcastle is the only decent game he's had for us so far imo and he still made mistakes in that game too, particularly in 2nd half.

I think Martial has played his way into the XI for this one. Give Ronaldo an extended rest

    1-0

Yes, the easies prediction yet this season.

DDG AWB Varane Maguire Shaw McFred Pogba Fernandes Greenwood Ronaldo

    2-1 United

Enter the match with focus for once and should be no big problems. Basic things like passing done right in the beginning and we should be fine.

Could really use some form and momentum before entering slaghterhouse of fixtures in October & November.

Hopefully Ronaldo nicks a couple before Mings steps on his head

Would go with the team that we played in the weekend, but replacing Maguire with Lindelof. Of course, Maguire is to Ole what Rooney was to LVG, so it is never gonna happen.

I’m going to this one. :D actually can’t wait!

    I think we will see…

    DDG
    AWB
    VARANE
    MAGUIRE
    SHAW

    SCOTT
    FRED

    GREENWOOD
    BRUNO
    POGBA

    RONALDO

Picks itself. Same team as last week. No one tonight really put in a performance that makes you think that the starting XI from last weekend needs to see a change or two for this game.

So after getting fecked over by Atkinson and Moss, let me present the final form of the not so holy trinity:

    top.jpg

    Team should be...

    ----------------------De Gea----------------------
    Dalot-----Varane-----Maguire-----Shaw
    -----McTominay------VdB-----
    Greenwood----Bruno----Pogba
    ---------------------Ronaldo---------------------

Subs: Henderson, Lindelof, Bailly, AWB, Matic, Fred, Sancho, Lingard, Martial.

I don't care if AWB is better defensively (that's debatable - he's just good at slide tackling), we need to balance the team attacking-wise and this isn't a "big 6" team, so go for it, Dalot in for AWB and the Portuguese connection of Dalot, Bruno and Ronaldo should see us through, rather than relying on attacking from the left as usual

Picks itself. Will be same team as last weekend.

    De Gea

    Wan-Bissaka Varane Maguire Shaw
    McTominay Fred
    Greenwood Fernandes Pogba
    Ronaldo

I think DvB did enough to warrant starting this one ahead of Fred, who was poor at West Ham.

Either way, with our team I would expect nothing less than 3 points. Hard to imagine Ronaldo not scoring.

Dalot should start. He’ll be playing against Villarreal and needs game time.

    De Gea
    Dalot - Varane - Maguire - Shaw
    McTominay - Pogba
    Mason - Bruno - Sancho
    Ronaldo

It doesn’t matter what line up we put out, the players need new direction, a style of play to compliment the personnel.
Scary quote tonight on MUTV post match, criticising his team’s tactics, surely he is responsible for this, is he not?

Ole appears to have no game plan and lets the players do what they want. It isn’t working, either he gets the best out the team or he needs replacing.

We threw the knockout cup game to prioritise this home match against Aston Villa so I expect to see 11 changes and for us to go with a genuinely strong starting line up.

    De Gea

    AWB
    Varane
    Maguire
    Shaw

    Fred
    McTominay

    Greenwood
    Fernandes
    Pogba

    Ronaldo

The only other possibilities are either bringing VDB into CM, or moving Pogba back there to bring in Sancho. But I imagine that's more likely in the Villareal game.
