Associazione Sportiva Roma, commonly referred to as Roma and nicknamed I Giallorossi (The Yellow and Reds) or La Lupa (The She-Wolf), is an Italian professional football club based in Rome. A.S. Roma was founded in the spring of 1927 when Italo Foschi initiated the merger of three older Italian Football Championship clubs from the city of Rome: Roman FC, SS Alba-Audace and Fortitudo-Pro Roma SGS. Italo Foschi was an important Roman representative of the ruling National Fascist Party. The purpose of the merger was to give the Italian capital a strong club to rival that of the more dominant Northern Italian clubs of the time. The only major Roman club to resist the merger was Lazio because of the intervention of the army General Vaccaro, a member of the club and executive of Italian Football Federation. All three founding clubs were relegated, but the fascist-aligned FIGC bet over the capacity of the new team to give a stronger representation to the capital of Italy, and they were awarded a wild card for the Divisione Nazionale, the Serie A forerunner.

An early season in which Roma made a large mark was the 1930–31 championship, where the club finished as runners-up behind Juventus. After being inconsistent for much of the late 1930s, Roma recorded an unexpected title triumph in the 1941–42 season by winning their first ever Scudetto title. The 18 goals scored by local player Amedeo Amadei were essential to the Alfréd Schaffer-coached Roma side winning the title. Former Milan player Nils Liedholm was the manager in the 1970s and 1980s, with players such as Bruno Conti, Agostino Di Bartolomei, Roberto Pruzzo and Falcão in the ranks. In 1982–83, the Roman club won the title for the first time in 41 years, amidst celebrations in the capital. The following season, Roma finished as runners-up in Italy and collected a Coppa Italia title, they also finished as runners-up in the European Cup final of 1984. Subsequently, Roma returned to form in the 2000s, beginning the decade in great style by winning their third ever Serie A title in 2000–01. The club's captain, Francesco Totti, was a large reason for the title victory and he would become one of the main heroes in the club's history, going on to break several club records.

In Italian football, Roma is a club with many rivalries; first and foremost is their rivalry with Lazio, the club with whom they share the Stadio Olimpico. The derby between the two is called the Derby della Capitale, it is amongst the most heated and emotional footballing rivalries in the world. Against Napoli, Roma also compete in the Derby del Sole, meaning the "Derby of the Sun". Nowadays, fans also consider other Serie A giants like Juventus (a rivalry born especially in the 1980s), Milan and Internazionale (increased in recent years) among their rivals, as these four compete for the top four spots in the league table to secure a spot in the UEFA Champions League. Since 1953, Roma have played their home matches at the Stadio Olimpico.

    Team should be...

    -----------------De Gea-----------------
    AWB--Lindelof--Maguire--Shaw
    ----McTominay----Fred----
    James---Fernandes---Pogba
    --------------Greenwood--------------

Subs: Henderson, Bailly, Telles, Williams, Matic, VDB, Mata, Rashford, Cavani

Dont see the need to risk Cavani or Rashford from the start, hopefully we can take off Bruno and Pogba after 45-60 minutes

Ole has never faced a second-leg, semi-final match with a 6-2 lead. Can he keep their heads glued on straight?

    Ole's first real test.

Interesting game, especially since we haven't played in a week come this fixture. I would have been calling for Van de Beek, James, Telles etc to start if we'd have played the Liverpool game. However, I think Ole might want to keep players sharp by playing them... We can make five substitutions, so I'd expect perhaps a really strong side for the first half and a couple of changes at half time. Then another three half way through the second half.

If someone is to be rested, it will probably be Cavani or Rashford I guess.

We don't need Rashford for this so leave him behind in Manchester. Pogba can take the left wing. Rest of the team picks itself. Perhaps play an additional DM in Matic to keep Bruno on the bench too?

    My team:
    De Gea
    AWB-Bailly-Maguire-Telles
    Matic-Fred
    Mata-Van de Beek-James
    Greenwood

    2-2

Did anyone work out if Pogba misses the final if he ges booked again ?

No. They give clean slate after QF. So 2 yellow cards doesn't mean suspension. IIRC it's for 3 yellow cards.

Players will miss finals only if they get red card in semi finals.

This game has to be few changes .
    DDG. Shaw, Maguire, Bially, AWB
    James, Mctom, Matic, DvB, Mata.
Greenwood... a lot of changes but Ole wont make that many to start.

We're out if we lose 2-0. Away goal is crucial here. Full strength.

If they score first we're in trouble and if they score a 2nd without our reply we're out. Tricky game, we must start on a front foot and score a couple.

    My team:
    De Gea
    AWB-Bailly-Maguire-Telles
    Matic-Fred
    Mata-Van de Beek-James
    Greenwood

    2-2

Yeah I’d go with that. There’s zero need to play Bruno, Rashford, Pogba and Shaw. Although with 5 subs it’s easy to bring a few off at half time.

If Donny can’t start this game...

    DDG
    AWB-VNL-Maguire-Telles
    -----------Fred--Matic-----------
    -James-----VDB-----Pogba-
    ------------Greenwood---------
This won't happen of course and Bruno will unnecessarily start.
Hope Rashford is rested at least.

Probably Henderson, Lindelof, Shaw, McTominay, Pogba, Bruno rested for Sundays match against Villa. Hopefully the starting team is strong enough to avoid a 4-0 loss.

No need for being naive and try changing to much. Best team that can play should play. 6-2 might be big but if you allow early goal with b-team selection that could be dangerous. So, best team that we can play should play now that players had one week rest..

Want United to win 2-1. Someone will have had a bet on 8-3 again.

Why though when there is literally nothing to play for on Sunday against Villa whilst the Roma game is a semi final? Nothing left to play for in the league when top 4 is secured and City will most likely have the league title wrapped up officially by the time we kick off against Villa.

    6 - 2(*2) = United 6 - 4 Roma
    2 - 0(*2) = Roma 2 - 0 United

6-6 on aggregate. They progress on 2vs0 away goals.

yeah but we’d only need to score one away goal to change the picture completely and progress to the final handsomely.

    united -> (6+1)x2=14
    roma _< (2x2)+2=6

4 points required to secure a top 4 place yet and would be sensible to get that wrapped up as soon as possible. 6-2 from the 1st leg gives the opportunity to rest players but I still expect a fairly strong starting 11 on Thursday.

    DDG

    Axel
    Bailly
    Maguire
    Shaw

    VDB
    Matic
    Telles

    Mata
    James
    Greenwood

    subs:
    Henderson
    Lindelof
    Wlliams
    Mctominay
    Fred
    Bruno
    Ahmed
    Cavani

Wouldn’t even take Pogba, Rashford or AWB.

If Maguire gets booked will he miss the final?

The Liverpool game being postponed probably means that this will be an almost full strength lineup.
