Manchester City Football Club (nicknamed City, The Citizens, and The Sky Blues), are a professional football club based in Manchester, England. City were founded in 1880 as St. Mark's (West Gorton), before being renamed as Ardwick Association Football Club in 1887, and finally Manchester City in 1894 - and the origins can be traced back to members of St. Mark's Church of England, West Gorton — who founded the football club that would become known as Manchester City, for largely humanitarian purposes. Two church wardens sought to curb local gang violence and alcoholism by instituting new activities for local men, whilst high unemployment plagued East Manchester, specifically Gorton. All men were welcome to join, regardless of religion.

The team's first recorded match occurred on 13 November 1880, and City gained their first honors by winning the Second Division in 1899 — with it came promotion to the highest level in English football, the First Division. In the seasons following the FA Cup triumph of 1904, the club was dogged by allegations of financial irregularities, culminating in the suspension of seventeen players in 1904, including captain Billy Meredith, who subsequently moved across town to Manchester United. Almost half a century later later, a City team inspired by a tactical system known as the Revie Plan reached consecutive FA Cup finals again, in 1955 and 1956; just as in the 1930s, they lost the first one, to Newcastle United, and won the second. The club continued to challenge for honors throughout the 1970s, finishing one point behind the league champions on two occasions and reaching the final of the 1974 League Cup.

Prior to the takeover by the Abu Dhabi United Group in 2008, the club had enjoyed moderate levels of success through their history — however, since the start of the current decade, City have been buoyed by the signings of Sergio Agüero, Yaya Touré, David Silva, Vincent Kompany — and have emerged as perpetual title contenders Vincent Kompany winning the league four times and repeatedly finishing in the Top 3. City play their homes games at the Etihad Stadium, and their biggest rivals are neighbors and opponents for the game, Manchester United.

    United 2 City 1.

We have only beaten them once at Old trafford in PL since 2011 season. Let us get the win this sunday.

    Knowing Ole it will be:

    DDG
    Lindelof - Maguire - Shaw
    AWB - Fred - Matic - Williams
    Bruno
    James - Martial

    DDG
    AWB Bailly Maguire Shaw
    Mctominay Matic
    James Fred Bruno
    Martial
Lots of pace and physicality in that team. I fancy our chances, they werent that great in the cup once Ole changed the suicidal midfield

    Knowing Ole it will be:

    DDG
    Lindelof - Maguire - Shaw
    AWB - Fred - Matic - Williams
    Bruno
    James - Martial

I like this. Let's be honest right now we are not suited to go toe for toe with them. Missing Rashford and Pogba we are especially not as good. Our best chance is hit them on the break and be lucky + De Gea goodness to get a win/draw. A draw would be perfect for me. This is where we are right now.

    Knowing Ole it will be:

    DDG
    Lindelof - Maguire - Shaw
    AWB - Fred - Matic - Williams
    Bruno
    James - Martial
Yeah think so too. Possibly McTominay somewhere... but don't think he's ready for it (plus Matic/Fred have been excellent together).

Hopefully all of Maguire, Wan-Bissaka and James are fit. We could go to three at the back here, but I am expecting the diamond instead. I currently do not expect 433 or 4231 - Ole seems reluctant to do this in the bigger games without Rashford fit, which is understandable when Greenwood and James are probably the best options out wide in that set up and they're both young. If we need a goal in the last 20 though, it is an option then.

    de Gea
    Wan-Bissaka Lindelof Maguire Shaw
    Matic
    McTominay Fred
    Bruno
    Greenwood Martial
    ---
Romero; Bailly, Williams; Mata, Lingard, James; Ighalo

If Wan-Bissaka is out, Dalot starts. If Maguire is out, it's probably Bailly in with Tuanzebe on the bench. If James is out, Andreas or Chong will be on the bench instead.

If we need a goal, we can bring on Mata/Lingard or James for one of the more defensive midfield players to go into more of a 433. I'd prefer James as we can keep Martial down the middle and move Greenwood out further to the right.

I'd honestly take a draw right now as it's more pivotal that we beat Spurs and Sheffield United in the coming games, but I hope we really go after them here. Both teams are in form, so it'll be a high tempo game. Expect City to edge it but I think a draw would be excellent for us to keep this unbeaten run going.

5-3-2 with Martial and Ighalo up top.

Power combo of Scott, Fred and Bruno in the middle with AWB, Lindy, Maguire, Shaw and Williams at the back.

I reckon we'll do them. No De Bruyne, Aguero will get Pep-Roulette'd again and Jesus to fluff several good chances but score one. 2-1, Ighalo and Bruno to score, one assist from Martial.

    Knowing Ole it will be:

    DDG
    Lindelof - Maguire - Shaw
    AWB - Fred - Matic - Williams
    Bruno
    James - Martial

Both Maguire and James are out injured and AWB picked up a knock last night. All three are unlikely to make the kick off according to reports.

Yeah think so too. Possibly McTominay somewhere... but don't think he's ready for it (plus Matic/Fred have been excellent together).

Yeah , coupled with the fact he played the full 90 against Derby. Probably wouldnt have done that if he was on for starting against City. He will probably be an impact sub depending on how the match goes.

Would be more than happy with a draw here. Wouldnt hold it against them if they loose either, lacking Rashford and all.

Will be interesting to see how Bruno fares, its his first real test...

And yeah, AWB, Maguire and James is mind games. Same for KDB for city.

    Romero
    AWB Bailly Maguire Shaw
    Fred Matic
    Dalot Bruno Marital
    Ighalo

I wish we were playing this before Chelsea-Everton. Chelsea may just drop points before we play, and that's been nothing but a bad omen this season. But hey, omens are there to be turned around. Come on lads!

They always win at Old Trafford so anything beyond a meek capitulation is a bonus.

    Possibly.

Then again, Maguire could possibly be missing for us which is an even bigger blow.

I'd argue that Man City without De Bruyne is like an airplane trying to take off with passengers blowing hard on a sail at the planes midsection.

    My preferred XI:
    De Gea
    AWB Bailly Maguire Shaw
    Fred Matic Bruno
    Greenwood Martiak James

Sick and tired of Lindelöf, his passing ability is overrated, he is weak, and nervous. Bailly may have a mistake in him but he makes up for it with his pace, aggression and strength.

Fred and Bruno help with the build up as City likes to press high, and they also should help attacking. Fortunately for us they are both extremely hard workers. Matic should mostly position himself infront of the centre backs and focus on the defensive side.

Leave Greenwood and Martial up top and have James help out with the defending. James may have been poor recently but he should be able to help with the pressing at least. Switch to a 4-4-2 when defending. Leave McTomminay on the bench because he has been underwhelming since his return imo.

But I think we will go for a 352 as Ole usually does in the big games, and its it's probably the safest bet. City are in great form and there are no room for mistakes, and they have a fantastic record at Old Trafford in recent times.

The core of our team is strong. City will have a hard time breaking us down. If we are clinical, we win this game.

    De Gea
    Baily - Maguire - Shaw
AWB- Mctominay - Fred - Williams
    Bruno
    James - Martial

Var has replaced own goal, but we can’t rely to much on that because the media is now saying how much we have benefited from it. I can see a correct decision not going our way because of that now.
