Colchester United Football Club (also known as The U's) is a professional association football club based in the town of Colchester, Essex, England. The team competes in League Two, the fourth tier of the English football league system. Colchester Town F.C. was founded in October 1873, although they were not part of any league or association until September 1882, when club was a founder member of the Essex County FA. Colchester then played in the Southern League from 1937 to 1950 when they were elected to the Football League and remained in the lower two divisions of the league between 1950 and 1990, when they were relegated to the Football Conference. United were promoted from the conference in 1992 and have remained a league club since. Colchester's main recent rivalry is with fellow Essex side Southend United, with whom they contest the Essex derby. The club also contest the Pride of Anglia award, which they have won once when they finished in 10th position in the Championship ahead of East Anglian rivals Ipswich Town and Norwich City.Colchester United play their home games at Colchester Community Stadium, known for sponsorship reasons as the JobServe Community Stadium.

Same team as AZ but instead start Jones for Maguire and Lingard for Martial.

We will probably struggle a lot in this one. Greenwood can hopefully save us. They will take the fight to us and should be confident having gone this far.

    Romero
    Dalot Tuanzebe Jones Williams
    Garner Matic
    Chong Mata Gomes
    Greenwood
Greenwood hat trick. Really hoping for Gomes to get a chance.

We need a stronger team than that. If we think this will be easy with a pure B-team then things could get ugly.

Certainly shouldn't be harder than AZ last Thursday so a similar side should get the job done

    Romero
    Dalot - Tuanzebe - Jones - Williams
    Matic - Garner
    Chong - Mata - Andreas
    Greenwood

We can not control games, we can not build up attacking patterns. Use this game as an opportunity to build up chemistry, start the strongest team.

    Romero
    Laird-Jones-Tuanzebe-Williams
    -------------Garner-Matic---------------
    -Pereira-------Mata----------Gomes-
    --------------Greenwood------------------

    2-0
    Greenwood and Mata

Pochettino with Spurs this season probably thought the same but overseen an embarrassing loss.

Yeah they have reached this far in the cup. That shows they can raise the game and defend well against better teams. It is exactly the type of sides we have struggled against in the league.

    A 1-0 tonking.

Pessimism aside we should get a few goals here.

    I’d go:

    ..................... Romero
    Young Tuanzebe Maguire Williams
    ............ Fred McTominay
    ....... Pereira Mata Rashford
    ................ Greenwood

Romero plays so chance of a clean sheet. If Pogba is fit, he should start too.

We need a stronger team than that. If we think this will be easy with a pure B-team then things could get ugly.

Our U21 team, often without Greenwood etc, have beaten three League-One teams. We should be fine.

    Romero
    Laird, Tuanzebe, Jones, Williams
    Garner, Matic
    Lingard, Gomes, Chong
    Greenwood

Reckon it will go until penalty shoot out.

    Romero

    Laird
    Jones
    Tuanzebe
    Young

    Garner
    Matic

    Lingardinho
    Mata
    Pereira

    Greenwood

Also there's the Classico in the same time so not sure what to choose....

    I’d go:

    ..................... Romero
    Young Tuanzebe Maguire Williams
    ............ Fred McTominay
    ....... Pereira Mata Rashford
    ................ Greenwood

Romero plays so chance of a clean sheet. If Pogba is fit, he should start too.

After Rochdale maybe we should avoid starting Pogba so early.

I think the squad will be similar to the one that faced AZ Alkmaar. Though, I can see Maguire & Rashford being left out this time, possibly even Martial too. There is the chance that some of Fosu-Mensah, Pogba, Rojo or Dalot could be fit for this, which makes replacing the aforementioned players a bit easier. We'll just have to see what's said in the presser tomorrow. Players that I think will be involved are:

    Romero, Grant
    Young, Williams, Tuanzebe, Jones, Laird
    Matic, Garner, Levitt, Andreas, Mata
    Greenwood, Chong

The rest, I'm not so sure about. It's clear that the midfield and forward areas are where we are light, unless Ole is OK to dip into the youth squad again then certain players are going to have to be involved. Martial being on the bench is probably the most likely I can see as a bit of insurance.

I don't think Ole will go full youth/reserves here. It'll be a mish-mash, he nows this could be a chance for a trophy.

    ---------------------------------Romero-----------------------------------
    Young-----------Tuanzebe--------Maguire---------------Williams
    ---------------------Matic-----------------Fred----------------------------
    -------------------------------------Mata-------------------------------------
    Greenwood-----------------Martial---------------------------James

SUBS - McTominay (Fred), Lingard (Mata), Jones (Maguire)

    Man United 2 - 0 Colchester United
    Greenwood, Mata (pen).

    Romero

    Greenwood

They reached this far though so they are better than what the league position says. Just like us they might raise the game for the big boys having already knocked out Spurs. Us playing at home though should help a lot.
I would probably play Mctominay, Pereira and Mata in midfield at least and certainly have Young playing even if I like Laird. Then we can give the youth minutes if we have a good result at half time.

Don’t want any of the first teamers near this, we need them fully fit in all the games that are coming in December.

If we can’t win this without them so be it.
We need to be 100% focused on EL and EPL.

Considering Gomes removed all his MUFC credentials from his Instagram account, I take it the odds of him featuring in this game i negative 1 googol%.

Just hope some journos ask about him in the press-conference. They have been been very quiet about it so far.

I’m expecting a strongish team. Mostly first team regulars with a couple of kids. Win this and we are one game from the final

We should win bigly. Play a mixed kids and old timers.
    Romero
    Young Axel Jones Williams
    Matic
    Mata Garner
    Lingard Greenwood Chong

I seem to have a different mentality to many of the cafe here in wanting United to win every match, even if it's Astana away.

I'm even moreso fixated on the League Cup here as a real possibility for a trophy this season. If we're truly intent on taking the long term, slow cook approach then this trophy is arguably more important than Top 4. It will be more beneficial to groom these kids to learn to win trophies than scrape thru to a fourth place finish. I've always associated the league cup as the first big step towards getting the club back on track. And if there is going to be any reason to keep Ole ahead of Poch come the summer, actually winning a trophy seems a decent one.

Should be a mix of players with the aim of winning. Comprehensively.

    Romero
    AWB - Axel - Maguire - Williams
    --- Garner --- McTominay
    ----- Gomes / Mata
    James ---- Greenwood ---- Rashford

I have never understood this. Fair enough you will leave due to a lack of gametime, but you have still been at United for nearly 13 years. Are people going to suddenly forget that he started life at United?

That said, the fact that Pereira and Lingard were starters, with gomes not even given sufficent time to prove his worth, is criminal IMO. We talk about foden at City, but we are going to discard Gomes without giving him a run of games, while having dross like Pereira, mata and lingard disappoint in the 10 role.

Play the reserves or the players who needs a good game.

    Romero
    Young - Axel - Rojo - Williams
    Garner - Matic
    Mata
    Chong Greenwood Martial
