Chelsea Football Club (also known as The Blues and The Pensioners) are a professional football club based in Fulham, London. Chelsea were founded on 10 March 1905 at The Rising Sun pub (now The Butcher's Hook) after Gus Mears had previously acquired the Stamford Bridge athletics stadium with the aim of turning it into a football ground. Since there was already a team named Fulham in the borough, the name of the adjacent borough, the Metropolitan Borough of Chelsea, was settled on.

Chelsea's first major title success came in the form of the League Cup with the appointment of former Arsenal player, Ted Drake, who also led Chelsea to the their first ever League title, enabling them to compete in the European Cup, but after objections from The Football League and the FA, Chelsea were persuaded to withdraw from the competition before it started - allowing Matt Busby's Manchester United to start their illustrious adventure with the competition.

After decades of being non-competitors, Chelsea returned to the domestic title fore in 2003 under new owner Roman Abramovich, who fueled an unprecedented spending spree - starting in the mid 2000s. Since the takeover, Chelsea have won 1 Champions League title, 5 Premier League titles, 5 FA Cup titles, 2 Europa League titles and 3 League Cup titles. Chelsea's most prominent rivalries include local clubs Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, title rivals Manchester United and Liverpool. Chelsea play their home games at Stamford Bridge.

Start Laird, Williams, Garner, Gomes and Greenwood. Don't start Young, Mata and Lingard.

Why do we always get Chelsea and Liverpool in the cups while City get FC bob the builder? Last season they were basically gifted two cups.

Reminds me of the luck Chelsea used to have, maybe Roman's cheque book ran out and the Sheiks stepped in.

Feck the league cuo, rest today's team and build league momentum.

Would happily see a competitive performance from players on the fringes

We draw Chelsea every bloody season, in both cups I swear.

We are a good counter attacking team. Chelsea might be a better coached team, but they will play into our hand. What are the odds we win a Penalty in this game? Might try my luck if such betting exists

Feels like we always play Chelsea around Halloween time every single year. Surely someone is bothered enough to look back and see whether it's true or maybe it's just me?

    In what way?

Patterns of play in attack. Building through the middle, spreading it out wide and attacking with numbers in different areas of the box. The high tempo, the quick passing, the willingness of the flair players to take their man on. The
forwards being in the right place at the right time with movement off the ball. And scoring lots of goals with a young team with some key British players.

Starts for Tuanzabe, Williams, Laird, Greenwood and I'll be happy.

That's not an SAF side, that's just a type of football.

"building through the middle"... what, we ignored Parker, Irwin, Evra, Neville, etc? Nah, we put it through the FB and up the wing (or overlapping) loads of times.

What about having a solid CH pairing, what about mental attitude, what about blend of physicality and flair, what about SAF winnings games in all sorts of different ways...pacy wingers, dribbling wingers, crossing wingers/wide men?

I see you've posted this in a few threads. Yes, Lampard is doing well (so far) and you obviously like him but the similarity with a SAF team? ... they both play with a round ball.

Wouldn’t be messing about with the team too much. We need some consistency, we’re not travelling to Madagascar either so yeah hopefully it’s the same again.

Play the first 11 and smash these feckers again is what I say.

Finally got a bit momentum going so we need play our strongest 11.

I am hoping were taking this seriously as well, good opportunity for us to get a trophy.

Honestly not bothered about the league cup, we can’t afford to risk players. Play the kids and save most players for the weekend.

Throw the kids for this one.

RedCafe in a nut shell. Like clockwork.

Was thinking the same, we have to make up lost ground in the league and even if we beat Chelsea we are still going to meet some heavyweights as we go deeper. Winning it won't do as much for our progression as a side as would finishing in the top 4 and going all the way in the EL.

I would do a Klopp and throw every competition except Europe and the PL to do as well as possible. The reward for the FA Cup and Carabao is meaningless. Even moreso considering our current situation and circumstances.

We're away to Bournemouth after this, can't afford to play the first team.

    Romero
    Jones Lindelof Rojo Williams
    Matic Garner
    Mata Lingard Gomes
    Greenwood

That´s British football right there. Out wide and the dribble.

Chelsea are slicing through teams like they're playing in playgrounds. Ole will have to go back to his 532 here.

Am I missing something? so we can’t afford to play footballers in important football matches in case they miss other important football matches against mighty teams such as ........... Bournemouth?

We can’t afford to play 3 games in 7 days in October in case our players all break down from exhaustion? Especially with all the highly intense football that’s been on display up until this point.

Presumably if we reach the latter stages of the Europa league in March/April we should just throw those or our league games because god forbid our players play 3 games in 7 days.

I don’t understand I really don’t, the way to build a teams fluidity and fitness up is to get them gelling and playing together as much as possible. This team needs that so badly right now.

With it looking likely that we will go through in the Europa League (although you never know with us) I don't think it would be disastrous to get beat Vs Chelsea. We haven't got the squad to compete on 4 fronts.

Our slim top 4 hopes and Europa League chances will be better with less games to play for sure.

We’re not winning the Europa league. My guess is we’ll be knocked out by a CL flunky.
