    Reading Football Club (nicknamed The Royals) are a professional football club based in Reading, Berkshire. They were formed on 25 December 1871, following a public meeting at the Bridge Street Rooms organised by the future club secretary Joseph Edward Sydenham. The early matches were played at Reading Recreation Ground, and later the club held fixtures at Reading Cricket Ground, Coley Park and Caversham Cricket Ground.The switch to professionalism in 1895 resulted in the need for a bigger ground and, to this end, the club moved again, to the purpose-built Elm Park on 5 September 1896. Reading were elected to the Third Division South of the Football League in 1920. Before going out of business in 1992, Aldershot were Reading's biggest rivals. Since Aldershot's exile, Reading's main local rivalries have been with Oxford United and Swindon Twon. When the three teams had shared a division, their rivalry was referred to as the "Didcot Triangle". They have been playing their home games at The Madejski Stadium since 1988.

    I live 8 miles from Reading. They are my 2nd team and i watch them when i can at the Majdeski.

    They are absolutely shocking at the moment. They are playing awful football under another new manager that just can't get a tune out of the players. The crowd are already showing discontent towards him and they will almost certainly go down come the summer. The feeling within the club is that the owners dont care, the board have picked another poor manager and the players just are not good enough.

    Our 2nd team should walk this game and should score a few goals.

    I think we should play Valencia in this. I don't want to see him in another first team game, and Young could do with a nice rest before Spurs
     
    While I think we should be resting as many as possible that played a lot over the Christmas period, I think Ole will be desperate to do well in this competition as it's our only realistic chance at silverware. It could also be his only chance to win a significant trophy as a manager without wanting to sound too pessimistic, so he'll want to snatch it with both hands.

    Gomes and Greenwood will be in the 18 for sure, but I'm not certain either will start. If I was Ole, I'd be going with a front three of Sanchez, Lukaku, and Mata and saying "go and win this in an hour for me so I can bring the kids on, give me a headache for the Spurs match". However, with Mata starting against the Magpies, it might not be him starting here.

    Hopefully, Dalot and Rojo are fully fit so we can go with something like this:

    Lindelof has played every minute and been our best defender for a while, so, we need him rested for Spurs. We might as well rest everyone who is likely to start at Spurs while we're at it, but Jones might have to start out of necessity. Hopefully, we can get the goals early and bring the kids on. Reading are shite at the moment and ship goals to average attacks. Should romp to a win by at least three goals really.
     
    First time in a couple years I'll make it to a game at Old Trafford, I'm looking forward to it.

    Hope to see a strong but rotated XI, then youth options on the bench.
     
    Solskjaer will be taking the cups seriously. Good chance for him and the lads to pick up a trophy.

    I expect something close to full strength with a couple of the squad players getting minutes subs reserved for late run outs for Gomes and possibly Chong if the score dictates. Greenwood will be on the bench to give him experience of a match day and a taste of the dressing room.

    This is how I'd line up, apart from playing Darmian instead of Lindelöf. Subs all spot on, let's hope we can go into half-time at 3-0 and unleash the youngsters sooner rather than later. That there's no space for a youth player in the starting eleven speaks to our squad depth.
     
    I hope De Gea starts. I wouldn't be taking any chances with Romero, who, imo, is a calamity.

    I have found the games much more enjoyable without his presence.

    De Gea, Young, Lindelof, Shaw, Herrera, Matic, Pogba, Rashford and Martial all absolutely have to be starting vs Spurs. If Ole has any sense whatsoever he'll give any of those that need it a rest at the weekend. The other two spots can be taken from the weekend's standout performers at CB and up front.

    Would love to see Gomes or Chong get a start instead of Lingard or Mata.

    He's the only DM that has not played much, who would we rather play? Matic and Herrera need rest.

We don't have sufficient cover for any of them and need them fresh for the Spurs game. That dimwit Bailly really throws a spanner in the works to the point where I'd consider playing Fellaini at CB just to give Jones some time off too, but his presence comes in handy in midfield.

    I'd like to see the below team with Greenwood and Chong coming off the bench but I think Fellaini will start rather than one of Gomes or Pereira.

    Good points on resting Jones and Lindelof. I had them in my preferred line-up as I see a low fatigue risk, plus a lack of obvious cover

    Roshun Williams could be a starting option
     
    Very disappointed this is not on free to air television. I expect Greenwood to feature. Romero will play in goal. I think we'll also see Sanchez and Fred return to the starting lineup. Rashford should be rested.

    That's the front 4 I want to see. I think starting Chong would be brillliant, so we could see how he fares at RW. Could save us alot of money.
     
    We could win this comfortably even with a heavily rotated first 11, spreading more confidence throughout the whole squad. A decent run out at home before spurs, another ole victory, nice. Things are going well. We’ve been lucky with this run of games while ole gets used to the squad. A few harder games and mixed results and it’s a totally different vibe around the club. Thanks for the nice Xmas and NY present Ole : )
