Amsterdamsche Football Club Ajax, usually known as Ajax, AFC Ajax, or Ajax Amsterdam (and nicknamed de Godenzonen - Sons of the Gods) is a Dutch professional football club based in Amsterdam - playing in the Eredivisie. The club was founded in Amsterdam on 18 March 1900 by Floris Stempel, Han Dade and Carel Reeser, the second incarnation after a short-lived previous attempt as Football Club Ajax in 1894. The club was named after the mythological hero Ajax, a Greek who fought in the Trojan War against Troy.

is the most successful club in the Netherlands, with 33 Eredivisie titles and 18 KNVB Cups. It has continuously played in th Eredivisie, the Dutch football top division, since its inception in 1956 and, along with Feyenoord and PSV, it is one of the country's "big three" clubs that have dominated that competition. Ajax is also historically one of the most successful clubs in the world - the club is one of the five teams that has earned to keep the European and to wear a multiple-winner badge; they won consecutively in 1971–1973. In 1972, they completed the continental by winning the Eredivisie, KNVB Cup, and the European Cup.

Through the years, Ajax has hosted some of the grandest names in football history - including Rinus Michels, Johan Cruyff, Marco Van Basten, Frank Rijkaard, Louis Van Gaal, and Johan Neeskens. Ajax plays at the Amsterdam Arena, which opened in 1996. They previously played at De Meer Stadion and the Amsterdam Olympic Arena (for international matches).

Can't see anything else than this really.

Yeah think this team is a cert.

The difference between a good season and an awful season.

Win at all costs. I don't care how. A deflection in the 5th minute and United parking the bus all game. A last minute own goal. A controversial penalty. Who cares, just get the fecking win.

    Just win the fecking thing.

I am actually really excited for this game though. Not the one we want to be in but it is still a European final and a massive prize for the winner with the CL Spot.

That isn't what it will be but what I'd go for.

Without a doubt. Today's selection has cemented this selection. Our best XI considering the circumstance.

Can see Carrick, Jones and Martial/ Mata coming on as our subs.

    Nervous as feck. :nervous:

Play the U9's or some fashionable phrase.

Squeaky bum time. It's going to be a torturous game to watch unless we can get a nice early 2 goal lead.

Just grab the trophy by any means possible, I don't care how.

Winning this will leave me happy the whole summer, losing this will leave a salty and bitter taste in mouth for months.

    Romero
    Valencia Smalling Jones Blind
    Herrera
    Fellaini Pogba
    Lingard Rashford Mkhitaryan
Carrick on for Fellaini once the bog picks up the inevitable yellow card around 60 mins.

Can Ajax just roll over for us?
After all, they still can qualify for the Champions League via the playoff even if they lose this but its do or die for us.

I would have expected Mata to be on the bench at least today if he wasn't starting on Wednesday.

    Romero
    Valencia Smalling Blind Darmian
    Herrera Fellaini Pogba
    Lingard Rashford Mkhitaryan

Carrick/jones possibly for fella or smalling. Will be a tough game, but if we match ajax's motivation and everyone shows up then we'll win.

It's been 22 years since they last won a European trophy, they'll be desperate to win.

Everybody's asking and expecting a 4-3-3, but I feel Mourinho could also go for a 4-2-3-1, specially if Fellaini is not ok, and making room for both Lingard and Mata.
