Manchester City Football Club - nicknamed City, The Citizens, and The Sky Blues - are a professional football club based in Manchester, England. City were founded in 1880 as St. Mark's (West Gorton), before being renamed as Ardwick Association Football Club in 1887, and finally Manchester City in 1894. Prior to the takeover by the Abu Dhabi United Group in 2008, the club had enjoyed moderate levels of success through their history - winning the League in 1936 and 1937, to go with 4 FA Cups, 2 League Cups, and 1 Cup Winners' Cup. However, since the beginning of the current decade, City have been buoyed by the signings of Sergio Agüero, Yaya Touré, David Silva, Pablo Zabaleta, Vincent Kompany; and have emerged as perpetual title contenders - winning the league twice and repeatedly finishing in the Top 3. City play their homes games at the Etihad Stadium, and their biggest rivals are neighbors and opponents for the game, Manchester United.

Subs: Romero, Fosu-Mensah, Shaw, Carrick, Mkhitaryan, Martial, Rooney

Boy, imagine getting a win on Thursday?? Still can't believe the position we're in after everything this season.

    Gotta win this.

    De Gea
    Bailly Blind Darmian
    Valencia Herrera Pogba Young
    Fellani
    Lingard/Miki, Rashford

I would not play Carrick in this game

A 1-0 win for us puts us 2 points clear and level on goal difference. Hope their FA cup tie today vs Arsenal goes to extra time.

Fellaini once is bad enough... But twice?!

    Exactly this.

Marcos is a big loss for this game. I would back Bailly + Rojo to stop anything City throw at us, not so confident in Blind. Bailly and Blind were the pairing in the home game where they destroyed us for the first 40 minutes. I'd be happy with a draw even though we really need to win.

Can't see us winning this at all. City's attack against our depleted defense is a worry. Only hope is to nick on the counter and we could do that since we have pace up top.

I like this, nice and solid, but with pace up front and on wings!

I think it's one of those games that we need to set up to counter attack like Chelsea.

With Rashford and Martial showing some promise again I think offensively we'll cause some problems but the lack of Rojo et al is for me concerning.

The focus must be first and foremost not losing, lose and top 4 is gone but even a draw would leave us enough of a chance IMO given how close we are to City and Liverpool.

Probably obvious but if we want to secure top 4 this is a must win.

Hopefully Arsenal take them to extra time to sap a bit of energy!

This'll be counter vs possession, and I'm hoping City's style of play falls into our hands.

Don't think we should play three at the back. Just make sure we play 3 in midfield and stop them from overrunning us.

I think we need aggression over control, so I'd opt for Fellaz over Carrick.

Lingard, Rashford, etc - players who run a lot of the ball will need to start, so we're effective on the counter.

Think we could win this. The first goal is vital, though.

Jose just said he's picking a side with one eye on Celta, Celta are the priority.
I'd take a draw right now

Wahooo! City and Arsenal going to extra time! Anything to make them more tired and susceptible to injury. I don't really care who wins, probably prefer Arsenal, anything to keep Wenger on board!

Another Jose masterclass might just be needed. Everybody will need to be on song.

Great to see City going into extra time. Hopefully our pacey energy for 70 mins will be enough to put us in a good position to win.

Imo we win this and top 4 becomes a possibility again, we don't and I think it is over for us.

So if we don't win this everything must be focussed on the EL games.

I think the safe thing would be to play the strongest team and rotate again on sunday to then have the best ready again for Celta a week later.

In case Pogba has a knock, Mkhitaryan to play on his position and Martial up top with Rashford

Wow, that is quite a strong statement from Jose re Jones and Smalling and that they should play on Thursday even if they feel that they are still injured

    Glad City's for extra time.

Looking likely we'll miss Pogba, which means we might go even more defensive and counter attack.

Hopefully 1-0 but would be ok with a draw given the state of our squad.

Saw Silva got injured, any indication he might miss this? Also someone mentioned that De Bruyne might be suspended after getting his fifth booking?

Fancy us in this one, Sane and Sterling are very good, but nothing special and can be dealt with. KDB is a danger, as is Silva if he plays.

I hope Jose doesn't sit back too much because that defence is there to be got at.

How can Kompany and Yaya play on Thursday after 120 mins today?

Does it really make that much difference? I mean yes they might be 5% off the pace but does an extra 30 minutes of running really deplete an elite athlete?

Surely if they weren't playing Thursday they'd be training Tuesday/Wednesday? It'll just be a case of having a rest day in there or recovery exercises...? I mean what must they run in that extra 30 minutes... 2 miles?

THis FA cup game is doing us massive favours for the game on Thursday

Half of our players were left laying in the closing 15 mins of our match today after extra time on Thursday. City players are hobbling about watching Welbeck power past them as I type this.
Of course it makes a difference.

Clearly not as elite athletes as I thought if an extra 30 minutes of effort makes a noticeable difference over 4 days rest.

Hopefully today's defeat to Arsenal (of all teams to lose a semi final to haha) will knock them a bit.

City played for 120 minutes and came away with no reward. Excellent! :D
