It's like smacking your head against a brick wall on here at times. He's put in absolutely top class performances against a whole host of clubs, not least Chelsea and Arsenal. That's something that very few players do on a consistent basis. It's not because he just runs around...

I was skeptical at first when we bought Park, but 6 years down the road I think he have proven himself to be a squad player, more than just a PR campaign.

The CL semi, CL final, he won't be there if he's here for PR, like it or not I find it more secure seeing him on the lineup, knowing he wont do anything spastic and we'll run to his last breath (which we might never see), and to say he doesn't have the skill needed to be a united player is a bit too much, he lacks confidence perhaps, but skill wise, every time i see him starting something i get excited
 
firstly I was scared when I read the article (remember that is always goal.com, but it appeared in other sites), but if we read well, he doesn't say he wants to leave now but maybe in the future, in 2 years or something. I don't know, he expect his form to have a flection one day and he doesn't want this to affect his place in the team. It's just a reflection, I don't see anymore in his words tbh. I want to stay positive.

I would bet against him having a significant "drop off" due to age. He just seems the type of person and character to be disciplined and healthy enough to carry on at a decent level for quite some time. He seems very humble and grounded enough not to be caught up in the partying or getting fat n lazy.
Plus, koreans only get more physically fit as they age IMO.

He's had arguably his best season in his career, with no signs of dropping off in fitness or ability. And to the poster who mentioned he relies on his stamina and pace, you're missing another and even more important trait: intelligence... both off-ball movement and simply having an almost telepathic understanding with his teammates. On the defensive side of our game, his running and stamina helps, but on the attacking side it's his movement and understanding with the likes of rooney and giggs especially, that get him the all-important goals.

How many players can say they've scored goals, important ones, against the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Milan? not to mention he's not even a striker!
 
Fergie seems to be making wholesale changes to the squad. wont be surprised to see him go.

think he will combine some youngsters from within with some purchases to fill the gaps.

its not just the CL either. He is reducing the age of the squad.

this could be a possibility but we have already lost VDS, gaz, scholes, hargo, wes is almost gone, plus giggs is 37 (38 this year)... I really can't see us losing other experienced members of the team - not this year or not till the most young players will show more maturity. for example, we keep Owen (with all the respect for him) but we show Park the door, showing to put the two in a different level (in terms of importance etc)?

no way will fergie ditch him unless park himself feel he can't contribute more to the team and chose to leave.
 
Aren't those quotes from the interview someone posted almost a month ago where he starts out by saying "I'd really like to end my career at MUFC BUT..."

some fair points DQ. Owen though is purely a back up. Park when fit is more or less a regular, depending on formations. I think Fergie may be thinking CL standard?
 
It wont be a popular opinion on here but i wouldnt be surprised if he was moved on in the next year or 2.

He's been a great servant for us. A reliable player when needed but i think we're in a bit of a transitional period now with older players retiring and squad players moving on, and i could see him falling into the latter category as Fergie attempts to raise the bar once more, to mould one final team that could compete with Barcelona and which sets us up for a decade following his retirement, with a mixture of experienced and proven 20 somethings and some outstanding young players.

Park is 30 now. He's not getting any younger. His fitness is still exceptional but his speed has decreased in the last 12-18 months. With Valencia, Nani and Young, the rumoured interest in the likes of Sanchez and the likely emergence of Cleverley, i can see Park finding it harder to get games out wide as we go for younger dynamic types. Infact i'd prefer to see him used more in the centre as the attacking midfielder in a 3 as he gets older, but again i think it could be a struggle if we did make a marquee signing as expected in that position and the emerging youth that will hopefully stake a claim at some point.
 
For that reason alone , he must be kept. 6 hears into a United career, he knows what it takes t make it at United ans should be the perfect rol model foe the younger new recruits we have coming through the system.

IMO Park and JOS should be kept on the payroll simply for that. O curse, both offer huge amounts of footballing options and ability too.


JOS ans Park as my 2 fav players at the club right now and I would be devastated if both left this summer. Along with Scholes and Neville, t would be as through the heart had been ripped out of the club, a mistake IM sure SAF will not make.

This. maybe sometimes we dont understand the importance of being park or o'shea, but many managers would pay to have players like him in their team. I rate cleverley a lot, but I also know that to keep the balance is an important thing in a team. to use him in a swap for a keeper, to pay how much less? 6,7,8 milions? I'd rather sell gibson and obertan for 5. he must stay

I don't rate him as a Man Utd first team player, but I do love his manner.


His culture of respect and honour is to be admired.
 
SAF respects him both on and off the pitch.If he does go it will be down to him.And i think he's a quality first team player.
 
Fantastic player, fantastic member of the squad, and this is how you deal with transfer speculation - coming out and declaring your love for the club and willingness to work hard.
