Those defenders were ridiculous to be honest.

At least make an attempt to stop him instead of just staring at the guy and let him do whatever he wants.

After all this running, he doesn't smash the ball. he passes it into the back of the net in the corner opposite to his horizontal run!!!!

feck me sideways and vertically !!!

He waits for it, if you stick a leg out he shifts the ball and you concede a pen. It doesn't help that he shields the ball the whole time.

Messi is one of the few players to run across defenders on a continued bases, as soon as he gets the ball he looks to attack the space. No one is this intelligent.

I have a theory that if you get Messi in the right area on a pitch, he will be impossible to stop nomatter what team.

right!

thats why every la liga player scores this kind of goal
What does that have anything to do with what i said.

Did those defenders made the slightiest attempt to stop him from scoring that second goal?

No they didnt.

Thats all.

How exactly do you propose they stop him? Its quick feet. They make a challenge they concede a pen.

And I don't think they would have thought he'd finish so easily from that angle as he did.

they did, but to the wrong side, they asumed that messi was going to stop but he didn't, that's why is so hard to take the ball away from him, he doesn't do what's expected

the defenders werent ridiculous, messi's movements are imposible to predict, and prediction is 80 percent of defending

Make a challenge, tackle him,do something.

Anything is better than doing nothing and just staying there staring at him as he goes by.

He's got the right supporting cast

Alves, Iniesta, Xavi, Villa and Pedro were superb once again

True, though, as that second goal shows, his individual brilliance is not dependant on others.

they can't

they are waiting for him to pass through their right, but messi goes on their left, so when he passes their position doesn't allow them to tackle or challenge

The last game they showed some knee-height footage of Messi running at players - it's unbelievable - just like a guy running at you with at full tilt with the ball tied to his boot.

Magic! I'm lost for words... How is it even possible to be this good?

Great finish, but seriously begs the question:

What the feck! was there left back doing?!

He's not Gareth Bale but he's pretty good all the same.

you see how they try tackling this guy, and he shifts it everytime

now try that in the box!

So what are you trying to say that they shouldnt do nothing other than stare at him?hell maybe they should just applaud him while hes running past them and celebrate when he scores against them.

Messi is no ordinary player, it's not as simple with him.

His close control is extraordinary. He keeps the ball so close to his feet that upon attempting to tackle him he'll even shift it to the side with ease.

Are you telling me, if you're facing Lionel Messi in the penalty area you should just put your foot in? He did a jinx then moved the ball left before slotting it in the corner. Can't really blame the defenders.

No they shouldnt do nothing and just let him score.

Happy now?

Magnificent finish, the run was what we come to expect from. He barely touches the ball, he doesn't have to as the feint works. If it doesn't work, he's small and quick enough to shift it anyway.

The finish though, unreal composure to slide it in the opposite corner.

You haven't watched Lionel Messi until you've watched him with Ray Hudson commentary.

Like Betamax, they do not make him like him anymore!

:D

classic

Ronaldinho was sensational that night

Him tripping after the overhead kick was really lame, that can never be considered a great goal, a tremendous lack of balance.

You hate him, don't you? :smirk:
Why would i hate him?

I think hes by far the best player in the world and that he should win the best player of the world award not only this year but every year if he keeps playing at the same level hes playing now in the years to come, with that being said i still think that the real sociedad defense was pathetic in his second goal.

Having another phenomenal season to back up his last few. I've taken these stats from another thread, they're his joint goals + assists count since 2006 (when he was what, 18?).

16
22
34
47
24

143 goals+assists
132 appearances
115 starts

That's simply beyond amazing.

Now I'll as again, like I did in the OP... Are we witnessing one of the greatest players ever here?

Nice compilation of stats... I think we are, he's easily already in my opinion the most talented, he just needs a few more accolades and consistancy into his 30's to be regarded THE best ever
