Gaming Football Manager 2010

Just convert back to the original version, problem solved.

Had my first really frustrating game last night, against City coincidentally. We had about 20 glorious opportunities to equalize and every shot was either a polite pass straight towards their keeper or blazed several miles off target. I brought Welbeck on and he snatched a goal in the 88th minute to make it 1-1, which was maddening more than anything since the game had been fecking up everything we did just to create some late drama.

Can't stand it either when after that drama literally nothing happens in the 5 minutes of injury time afterwards and the game finishes

But when you are fecking winning 1-0 you have to witness all of those 5 minutes in real time!

Please help! :( I've assembled a group of really good induvidual players, but feck me they're playing like shit as a team. Cant score, Cant defend, cant do anything. Is it the tactics thats screwing the team up?

I am also a completely shit tactician in this. Where's the best place to play Jovetic?

Having a lot of success with an overload very fluid tactic as my default. 4-1-2-1-2. 3 seasons now and it's been very consistent. I was tipped 100-1 to win the championship with St Albans and am currently 4th!

Keep players in one role even if it doesn't work at first it should come good after about 10/20 games

I play a pretty standard 4-4-2. defenders are set to defend, the midfield share the work between attack and defence and the wingers get forward. But it just wont work anymore.

I'm not a big fan of flat 4-4-2's anymore. They are a 'safe' tactic I guess but I've not had any great success with them in this game. There are some experimental tactics that can have some great effect on your play.

Try this one. Download 4-1-2-1-2.tac for free on uploading.com

Also it's worth noting once your morale is down in the shit you are basically fecked until the game gives you a pass. I never say anything bad to my team after a game regardless of the result.

Yeah very true. I played 4-4-2 in my first season simply because I was a newly promoted team, so wanted to play something quite basic and keep it simple. No point over complicating it with an average team/

Cheers mate, I'll deffo try it.

True. Its so so annoyinggg.

Half way through my first season in league 1 with Stalybridge and I'm finding it tough going. Started out really well and after the first 12 games I was actually 2nd but then I played Milwall...4 injuries in one match!! Including my star attacking midfielder Matt Ritchie who had 11 assists and 6 goals already. With him out for 3-4 months my team has gone to shit and now in the middle of January I'm down to 7th 4 points off the playoffs. I'm not really having trouble scoring as such but I'm constantly conceding late equalisers, only lost one in the last 10 but i've drawn 7 of those! Playing a 4231 with the fullbacks on support to give me width but I'm thinking putting them to defend may help but i'm really lost for ideas.

Oh and on a sidenote, Portsmouth are in League 1 with me with a certain Ryan Giggs in charge. He plays a 424 tactic from the start the mad man.

On my FM 2008 game, Carles Puyol is a manager who plays a "cautious, man-marking 4-2-4". Needless to say he has had a managerial career like Anelka's playing career with tons of clubs hiring him (he has a high CA as a manager) and firing him (he often relegates teams). 8th or 9th job now or something, I believe...

Well I'm not sure how long Giggsy has been there but he is doing alright at the moment, floats around between 2nd-4th all season, nobody is going to catch Bradford though. Sol Campbell is managing Milwall too, they're hovering around the drop zone and i'm hoping they fall the bastards. Stupid game makes me so angry.

Well, reinstalling I guess.

I'm playing with the original version and I haven't noticed any bugs that could take away the pleasure of playing the game. Only bits that annoy me are that opposition instructions go awol sometimes during games and player ratings don't get showen when letting the assistant doing the team talk.

But my players have no problems with 1 on 1's.

So like, re-install the game, but my save obviously won't be effected correct?

There might be something to this idea.

Also, is anyone else also noticing injury numbers going up in the new patch? And no, it has piss-all to do with my training regiments.

How do I use Macheda and Wellbeck effectively?

It's obvious they have potential, but neither seem to have done it for me when I've used them, after two seasons, and I'm considering selling them

I usually play them with Berbatov as a targetman or deep-lying forward. Macheda has good movement so can play off Berbatov well while Welbeck can play more of a bulldozer sort of role when fully developed. Both make fairly decent targetmen or deep-lying forwards.

Welbeck is also decent on the wing after a bit of training.

If you roll back to the original version of the game you won't be able to play any save games which have been saved with the patch.

Thats the reason I haven't rolled back yet but the patch as made the game so bloody rubbish I might just have to go back to retail version so I can at least play the game.

Its a crying shame too as I was enjoying the game pre patch and was one of the better version of the last several years.

Did the tactic do any good for you?

I find it odd your games add the patch, but you cant take them away.

Steam just updates on its own so I have no choice.

So Cathcart and Cleverley come back from loan and with their contract about to expire in the summer, I decide to offer them a couple of years of extention. Money grabbing bastards want 45k per week and a key player status. :wenger:

Stoke.jpg

feck it I'm gutted. Season is a joy, I'm in 4th, on a 25 game unbeaten streak. Have lost the least number of games in the division, have the best away record, and after 28 games have already amassed as many points as I managed in the whole of last season in League 1

Most of my back line are loan players though, I only own my left back. So in the FA Cup, I'm a little more makeshift. I'd progressed to the 4th round, my best ever effort, beating Southport (10-0 no less), Bournemouth (on pens) & Accrington (4-3 thriller). I drew Stoke away, and was expecting to get dicked

Stunningly, I was 2-0 up at half time. Now obviously I expect Stoke to come back at me, but I was pretty comfortable for most of the 2nd half. With what just over 20 minutes to go, the left winger, from the wing, threw a hopeful cross in from deep, and fluked it into the bloody top corner. Scandalous goal, the players first ever apparently. Couldn't hold them back after that and am eliminated. I expected to lose but the manner has irked me no end! Jammy bastards

No prizes who they drew the next round. United away

fecking hate it when the chairman goes over your head. Lieing 5th in the Championship after getting 100-1 odds to win it, and my chairman decides selling our star striker in the Jan transfer window is a good deal. Fair enough it doubles our bank balance from 1million to 2 million but the money was coming in anyways.

Complete joke.

ive never had that happen. Do you mean when the board simply says an offer is too good to turn down and accept it straight off the bat?
Normally i just adopt the modern approach and give all my players very high valuations - if someone is prepared to meet them then great, but more often than not they will simply laugh and withdraw from negotiations.

Yeah, he accepted it. I didn't get a chance to negotiate it at all.

I'm not sure if setting the valuation ridiculously high would of made a difference, it would be a sneaky workaround if it did. Looks like I'm destined for mid-table now!

i wouldnt call it sneaky necessarily. Say i have gotten myself a wonderkid and dont want to sell him, ill set his sale value at about £20m normally (playing as United this is, so its not a COMPLETELY stupid figure like £100m). If a club is prepared to meet my valuation then great, if not then im not interested. Very rarely will I get a bid of about £15m for the player, which will then be accepted by the board. Normally the AI will either meet my valuation, keep offering small amounts (<£5m) or simply withdraw.

Silly question: If your balance goes int othe negatives, do you go into administration like in past games?

Yeah, that happened to me. The board sold Anderson for £17.5m to Sevilla without my say-so. There were 2 days to go in the transfer window so I managed (at the very last minute) to get Dzagoev from CSKA.....which was nice.

Except it wasn't that nice. He's now in my squad with no work permit- so obviously I can't play him and I can't send him on loan to get a work permit because the transfer window is closed.

fecking game.

In some ways I wish SI removed that feature altogether like the feature they had in 7.0.1 where a chairman would... Go out and buy players for you! The game is unable to take into account circumstances beyond money-making (and the values sold are not necessarily that good).

Have you ever tried the contract trick? Give him a new deal and 9 times out of 10 the work permit issue vanishes and he should be available.

I've now got too many midfielders / wingers to keep them all happy.

The list is something like:

Hargreaves
Scholes
Fletcher
Hamsik
Jovetic
Beckham
Renato Augusto
Petruci
Llajic
Tosic
Pogba
Sandro
Gourcuff

and also the strikers

Dzeko
Rooney
Wellbeck
Macheda
Diouf

It's the start of 2011/12and I'm favouring a 4-3-2-1 and a 4-2-3-1 depending on opponents.

Can anyone shed insight into which players to hold onto (with the future in mind?)
