Louis Saha insists he is overcoming his injury problems and can play an important role in the rest of Manchester United's season.

The striker has struggled with injuries off and on for a couple of years and has started only eight games this season.

Saha missed the 6-0 rout of Newcastle last weekend but is now keen to return to the squad.

He said: "I'm definitely getting there. I played two full games in a row over Christmas. So things are improving and I'm looking to play even more."

Stay fit and away from injuries first, you sicknote

i think he is a very good striker and offers us a very good altenative to Rooney and Tevez, he gives us the option of a target man and he stretches the back four with his running in behind. i hope he gets his form and fitness back and keeps them both for a fair while. i am fed up of arguing with mates who say he is rubbish. it would be nice to shut them up with some goals.

Even though Im a supernatural entity I cant resist....

Saha my friend.... I diagnosed you as a sicknote about 3 years ago and have been proved right - you have till the end of the season to prove your worth otherwise you will be sold!!

He hasn't in the last few matches he's played....

The fact that it's an achievement for him shows how bad his injury problems are.

He is a good player WHEN he is fit, sadly that isnt often enough
its bad luck for him and I hope it comes good for him
BUT United need someone who is available for more matches, than he has been in the last few years
I think its time for us to find an alternative and for him to move on, like almost all of our ex players i wish him well, but i suspect he is destined to spend a lot of his remaining time on various treatment tables
If only he had more fit playing time, we woudnt consider losing him, a fit Saha offers us a different dimension

i think that is because he isn't match fit yet and hasn't really got any semblance of form. i think he is very much a confidence player and needs goals to be at his best otherwise he seems to mope about the pitch, not really contributing a lot and this stands out to anyone watching as tevez and rooney are such busy players.

No, what I mean is it looks like he is changing his game, in order to try and prevent more injuries on his knees.

oh right. i think that is very possible. i think he has a few mental issues when it comes to injury and he could very possibly be preserving himself and trying to avoid picking up any knocks

I slowly give up on him. Constantly injured, and obviously out of form.

Great striker, but his injuries hinder him from being in the first XI

That's the thing, though, he's not a great striker. I'm not a Saha hater, and when he's fully fit I'd love him to be in the team, rotating with Rooney and Tevez, but really, he's not a great striker as he's simply not clinical enough. Would be good to see him back to his best, but I highly doubt we ever will...

I agree that we need more cover up front too and need to get someone in now rather than in the summer. We will struggle in the latter part of the season if we are still fighting on three fronts as Rooney and Tevez will have played the majority of matches, injuries, suspensions and tiredness will start taking their toll and they will be missing important games as games at the end of the season and any games at the end of the season invariably tend to be must win and we cant afford to have no striking options. just like last season when we looked out on our feet in the 2nd leg against Milan and the cup final.

I still think we need to carry on perservering with saha though at least until the end of the season. i think he is more use to us if we keep him than he is if we get rid of him. he still has time to get his form back and with all his current injury problems i cant see any team wanting to take a gamble on him unless the offer was too good. One more serious injury though and i think SAF will lose patience with him.

Now you're too harsh imo. Obviously he's a confidence striker. When confident and fully fit, he's one of the better striker you can get, as he proved last season

I totally agree mate. It seems many on here live up Saha's arse and can't see the light because of the shit in there eyes. He's average.

i think the start of his united career, the start of last season and a couple of spells in between shows that when fit he is far from average. he is just hardly ever fit which is the problem.

He's average.
In 03/04, the season we signed him, he scored 22 goals in 31+5 appearances for us and Fulham (as many PL goals as Ruud), he scored 15 in 20+10 games in 05/06, and he was our best player or thereabouts in the first half of last season. (Last season he also created lots of goals and chances for others, but I can't remember how he's done in that area previously.) When he's fit and playing regularly, he is class.

Definitely not average! He looked good in his first season here, throughout the 2006 calender year, he was exceptional. I wish he didn't have the injury problems he has.

I concur

That certainly is a possibility. And if that is the case I don't know if we need the player he is turning into as it doesn't really suit us. For now we'd still need him because of the lack of other options, but in that case I'd hope we sign someone else and just see Manucho as our constant 4th choice.

However, it's equally possibly it's just a lack of form and confidence, and as these things come back he'll get back to the form and style of last season (). In which case I hope we keep him so that, depending on fitness, he can rotate with Manucho as 4th striker (we still need someone like Berbatov to rotate amongst the main three).

Gone in the summer. But we will need him in the second half if we don't buy anyone in this window. If he gets his confidence back, could be the difference between one trophy and two or three.

I took this picture from Gettyimages, it's of the United players training in Saudi Arabia, Is that Saha 4 in from the right ?
