Conor McGregor thread.

I don't think he'd win a presidential election, but he might come closer than you think. If there are say 7 candidates, and if Bertie and Gerry Adams are 2 of them, the vote will already be well split. McGregor could get the Peter Casey type of vote and that might have him in second.

Obviously, will struggle to get nominated anyway.

Don't underestimate the support his views get around the country. I was at a Paddies Day parade with the theme of Make Ireland Home Again... you would want to have seen it.

I mean he's always coked out of his nut, often hammered as well, he's clearly been on HGH since the leg break, always seething with anger at something and regularly getting into confrontations so I don't think he's ever getting his free bus pass that's for sure.

Plus he’s got in with some legitimately dangerous criminals. Only a matter of time before he pisses them off.

I think with Trump he - and iv no idea how - got the support of the Christians who somehow believe his shite.

The more traditional strong Catholic base regions predominantly in the west, i cant see them believing McGregor is their saviour sent from god.

His base in a hypothetical situation would be limited to the racists and Andrew Tate style misogynists.

Even Gerry Hutch got a few people voting for him but his appeal was very narrow.

I keep misreading this thread title when I login as "Conor McGregor dead' - each time, I momentarily think, "yeah, that's not a surprise, probably drugs."

Fentanyl has an opportunity to give its reputation a real boost.

I remember the time when most of the country loved him.

Until the realisation hit that he’s actually a proper dickhead

He's never going to be seen in the UFC again ffs

The Nate Diaz trilogy. I believe that makes way too much sense for him to not come back.

It could be two or three years from now but it'll happen if there's enough money in it.

Conor McGregor is all about giving the people what they want. And often times what they explicitly don’t want.

I doubt he can go a day without drinking anymore, never mind a full training camp.

He'll probably continue to talk about returning for another 5 years though.

How is it possible that someone full of money, who was the champion of the world at some point and who's got everything he could ever have wanted, gets locked in a self-destructive behavioral pattern ?

I know human beings are often difficult to understand but I hope he gets the help he needs.

It is a shame that he is wasting the potential of the final years of his career away because in his prime he was a crazy combination of KO power and general striking creativity.

It is hard for me, personally, to wish the worst on him, 2014/2016 was the time that got me really in love with fights. He carried the sport after the end of the GSP/Silva era.

He's done as a fighter. I don't think there's any way he could go through the training and sobriety necessary at this stage and even then he's 36 and the drink and drugs will have taken their toll.

He was able to keep on the straight and narrow while he was young, hungry and didn't have much money. As soon as he made a few quid the charges and incidents of despicable behaviour started to mount up. Over the last few years, he's also pushing far right propaganda.

He's an absolute scumbag who deserves no empathy at all in my view. Him being decent at fighting for a bit 10 years ago shouldn't really impact how he's viewed now.

He’s a complete scumbag who was able to hide it, or have it glossed over for a few years due to his profitability.

The money and fame have just heightened his ability to show everyone who he is.

He also had one of the most fortunate runs in sport relative to his success.

Hard to argue with any of what you guys have said.

There seems to be an agreement in the Cafe that he is a terrible person so i'm not going to try to paint him in a good light.

Just saying that for those who were invested in his rise back in the day it's hard to fully understand the destruction.

Lots of examples of that unfortunately with famous people. From Tyson, Gazza, Maradona in sport circles to plethora of actors and musicians.

As for drinking and drugs taking its tool, I always thought they were the reason he gassed so soon after his best years.

It's way more common for people at the top of the fight game to be nasty people, than the opposite.

Tyson
Mayweather
Jon Jones

Just there you have 3 of the greatest of all time in their fields, and they are all scumbags with despicable charges against them.

McGregor is an extreme example of an inner city dub, loves drinking, doing drugs and fighting. The drugs and alcohol just accentuate who he always was

Can't tell if he's sober or not here. Either way, he's pretty much gone full maga.

Jaysus. How could you watch it long enough to find out?

The state of that accent he's putting on. I couldn't listen to more than a few minutes. He's so fake and who's this 'we' he keeps referring to.

Carson tells him he could be talking about the US. Yeah, no shit, he's just regurgitating MAGA talking points and transposing them onto Ireland.
