Non-televised academy matches

Glad we've got the breakthrough. The U18s have suddenly developed the first teams wasteful finishing issues - I guess promoting the likes of Obi and Scanlon contributed to that.

Hopefully the Ibragimov for Lacey HT sub was an intended one - with Lacey still working his way back, and not even featuring at all midweek, and Ibragimov also featuring as a sub for the U21s last night.

Good to see Overy starting to get some game time after his injury issues after joining us.

Biancheri’s injury too. He was phenomenal before that.

I’m sure it was.

Yeah, good point. Biancheri's been understandably a bit rusty and less clinical since his return (though also keeps having goals disallowed!) As you say, before that absence, he was phenomenal.

The U14s won all three of their qualifying games at Loughborough today and are through to the Premier League international tournament, where they'll be joined by 8 other English qualifiers & 3 international invitees.

They beat Palace 2-0, Spurs 1-0 & Forest 4-1.

Beating Palace is a great result for the juniors. Does anyone know any kids coming through that young?

Definitely some good players in the group but probably a bit early to be going in detail. JJ Gabriel is technically still in this age group (as are the Nkoto twins but you know..) although he probably didn't play on account of being with the U15s/U16s mainly.

Adam Lawrence post-match:
”It was a different type of game and we were dominant in good periods on the whole.

“We responded well to Blackburn’s goal and after going back ahead, we created more chances again and looked really exciting, and then the last five or 10 minutes was just about seeing out the game.

“Similarly to Tuesday’s win over Wolves, we won 2-1 and while the opponent didn't put us under loads of pressure in terms of chances, there’s been one goal in both of those games and you’ve got to manage it properly. I felt the boys did that in midweek and again today.

“With the amount of football we’ve been playing lately, two games most weeks for the players, I think they deserve some credit with how they’ve been managing themselves and navigating their way through it really.”

Regarding Friday:

Tickets are available to the 19:00 GMT kick-off at the Emirates Stadium here. Due to broadcasting restrictions, we can’t confirm MUTV coverage of the game yet, but will do as soon as possible, having shown the previous three rounds live in the UK and Ireland.

Not sure if this has been answered before. But can I watch every u18 and u21 matches on mutv?

Not even close.

Last season most u18s were shown but only 66% of u21s were shown.

There has been a drastic reduction this year. I haven’t updated my tracker in a bit but a rough guess is probably 75% u18s and maybe 50% u21s at best. I’ll try calculate the exact figures later.

Thanks. Worth signing up for or am I better of finding rivers if that is even possible? (I hate river rafting.)

U15s beat Leeds 5-2 in the Floodlit Cup last Tuesday. They play Sheffield Wednesday next week where avoiding defeat would see United through to the Northern semi-finals.

That's interesting.

The stats for the U21's is actually higher than I'd have thought. It feels like we missed even more than a third last season and a half this. Still very poor figures. And, as you say, there's definitely been a reduction in the U18 coverage as well, which is worrying for future seasons given the downward trajectory of both.

I'd say it's still worth signing up for for now, but only because it's reasonably priced. I think it's £29.99 for the season. Which, given the price to subscribe for one off matches from clubs (EFL Trophy games) / summer youth tournaments can be about £5-10 per game, means you still get plenty of games for your money.

The annoying thing is the price hasn't reduced, it's actually gone up over time (as everything does!) but the amount of U18 and U21 games you get to see is decreasing. And at a rapid rate of late, probably due to all the job cutbacks - and maybe changes in priority as well, with the covering of the women's team another factor in the U18's, and U21's especially, being pushed down the pecking order.

Womens games being shown on mutv? That's actually a huge plus if so.

I don't know how many live games are shown as I don't follow it - it's all to do with contracts same as the mens first team, I expect. But others will no doubt be able to help out with figures.

But I know you see some on there, and there's sections on there with coverage of highlights, etc. And when we sent emails requesting information about the reduced Academy coverage, while most responses were disingenuous bs, there was one that seemed to be more honest about the reduced funding meaning they have to make tough choices, and with increased women's coverage along with the men's then they can't show all of the Academy / U21 games and have to be selective.

Copy that and thanks! Solid info.

U18s face Middlesbrough tonight at 18:30 GMT. Not on MUTV for some strange reason. Saturday's match against Derby not on the schedule either.
