Liverpool 2024-25 | Most definitely winning the League Cup on Sunday

Arsenal lost to West Ham. Oh well Liverpool will probably win tonight anyways.

Yeah league is done. Only left to see if Newcastle can stop them in CC final and someone beat them in CL.

Mourinho, Ancelotti, Pellegrini, Ranieri, Conte - managers that won PL in their first season. Slot to join them and well done to him, it's a big success given that everyone predicted Liverpool top 4 finish and hardly more than that. Klopp also left him a good squad, changing whole midfield in his last summer.

The danger now is, Liverpool can start resting players in the PL for the CL.

Couldn't make this shit up!

Don't think he will do it again.. rested Vs Plymouth then still drew with Everton.

I think if they beat City today it's a 100% cert they won it though.

One thing for sure, PSG can definitely rest players. Think they have a 13 point lead.
They had that in the last 10 years and it never helped them. Still think they can beat Liverpool with the biggest disadvantage being the second leg at Anfield.

Liverpool will win that. If they play Real (?) in the semis then I expect Mbappe and Bellingham to hit form.

Atletico definitely can knock them out like they did during the 99 points season.
Barcelona as well.
Basically all teams in top 3 La Liga have at least 30% chance vs Liverpool.

Slot is a lucky lucky man.

Basically rocked up with Klopps team, and everyone round them imploding. Oh, and Salah decides to hit the levels of Messi. All he needed to do was keep the ship steady and he's got a title. Will virtually win it by default.

He's basically a big bald chancer

Is this a start of their domination?

City is in turmoil with 115 charges looming. Chelsea is forever in turmoil, Arsenal have had their peak this year imo and will only go downhill and we wont get their act together anytime soon.

Probably not. This is still Klopps team, and let personnel like Salah, VVD are getting on a bit now.

City will probably get their act together, but you are correct in that there's a lack of competitive teams in the league at the moment.

And on the flipside, you have people saying this shows Klopp was never all that, etc.

He's lucky, in a way Klopp never was, to not have an all-dominant city side to compete with. Or even an Arsenal close to what they were last season. And also that he inherited a talented and really well trained side. He's also done really well to adjust and improve that side further, in circumstances where most people were predicting a top four challenge being the target for this season.

We are on course for 90 points. Outside of Klopp's runner up finishes, that wins the league in every PL season. When Ferguson won it in 11, second place finished on 71 points ffs. We're due an easy scoop by now.

TAA, Salah and VDV all scheduled to leave this summer still.

The latter two will stay I'm sure as they like the status they have at Liverpool but this Liverpool side isn't a patch on 21/22 season imo so they remind me a bit of AC Milan in 2007 when they won the CL. Were past their best as a group but they have so much muscle memory in the champions league they hung in there and won it.

It wasn't however the start of any dominance, more the ending and they declined badly for a few years after.

A lot like us in 2012-13.

Hopefully they get thwarted in the CL. League was done a long time back.

Not really since our midfield core has yet to hit their prime in principle, they're 22, 24 and 26. We're getting a GK who's also 24, Bradley should fill in for TAA and is only 21, and Konate is 25 and has improved a lot this season compared to his previous ones. If (big if) Van Dijk and Salah stay on, I think they could be able to perform at a high level for at least next year and perhaps beyond that.

Priorities should be LB, a CB as cover for our starters, and a striker and winger imo. Diaz isn't the youngest, you can't rely on Jota to stay healthy, and Nunez will be shipped off in the summer, so we desperately need reinforcements there. But disagree with the sentiment that this is an aging squad giving it one last go. Perhaps in its current form sure but there are plenty of key pieces which are still young enough to even improve on what they're offering at the moment.

Cap doffed to you guys, fully deserved. Was hoping to make it more of a race, but the weekend finished it as a contest.

8 points is not nearly enough of a cushion to call it a done deal at the end of February, unfortunately. Definitely a big swing though, especially since a lot of of people thought the gap could be reduced to a virtual 2 points if you won against West Ham and we lost at the Etihad.

Think you need to come through your next three games (away at Forest and United, at home against Chelsea) with at least a 7 out of 9 to keep things interesting.

On Bradley, I don't think he's anywhere near good enough to start for us every week. He'd be a big step down from TAA imo.

Na mate, it's done, we don't have the forwards to help us win games currently. We'll struggle to keep the league to the current points gap, if anything it will widen further, maybe even starting from this midweek.

Honestly think the talk about Liverpool equalling our league wins is of little significance. It matters not a jot that we were ahead of them from 2018 to 2025 because they were world beating and we weren't. Just as I doubt Liverpools 18 wins were any solace to Liverpool fans back in say 2001 when we only had 14 but had won the Treble and the league back to back three years in a row.

its funny how in almost 30 years of Premier League theres only ever been one season (08/09) where both of us have been in a title race. If/when we ever get back to challenging for the league I have a feeling the Universe will restore order and we will once again see Liverpool nowhere near the top as we dominate. A man can dream!

Yeah, both things can be true - he's been fortunate with the squad he inherited, he's been VERY fortunate with the opposition, or rather lack thereof, in the league this season, but he's also done very well. Another manager could've come in and messed things up, maybe by trying to change too many things, or just by being generally inept. He hasn't, he's been assured and despite a couple of little mistakes, has done well (which of course is facilitated by the context he's been working in, but sometimes you just get lucky).

It'll be interesting to see how he does next year which will pose an interesting challenge.

I mean the core is the same team they've had since Klopp came in. So... no. If anything it's a final grand finale.

I also think it's sort of been a freakish season this year where you've had Salah with an outlier all time level season, coupled with other contenders domestically falling off either through injury (Arsenal) or age (City). I think some of the past non-title Klopp teams were better sides pretty clearly, but I think Slot is more flexible with how's he's tweaked the team throughout the year and adapted and he's getting a freak Salah season to help carry the load big time.

I've been very impressed by Slot. He hasn't been naive or done anything stupid, and instead just made a few tweaks to enable this team to go up a level this year, mainly through Gravenberch taking to that 6 role and giving Salah more freedom and highlighting him.
