U18s: United vs Chelsea

There’s been plenty of great performances this season, but considering the opposition this might be the best one so far. No weak links on the pitch.

Agreed - but I still feel we haven't even been near our max....that's how high our ceiling is at the moment

Great performance all round, can't really fault anyone. Devaney was probably my MOTM, coming back from injury and performing like that.

Looks the closest to making the first team squad I reckon.

Without being flashy he's the most mature player on the pitch. Does everything right.
Devanney has impressed me for a while, as the commentator said he is always scanning the pitch , rearly gives the ball away, very strong.

An outstanding save.

I also like that at the very beginning of the clip in the bottom left corner one of the lads, maybe Chido, is getting into it with a Chelsea defender.
Also distracts the referee, who then completely misses the shirt pull on Armer. Would have been given a goal.

There was one time sometime midway through the second half - where the Chelsea goalie Sands had the ball at his feet. No United-player was anywhere near him and Devaney came rushing 30-40 meters to put pressure on him - full speed. And I thought to myself - imagine seeiing anyone else than Bruno of our first-team players doing that.

Is Arsenal home or away?

Sounds worse on paper than it most likely is - Arsenal have been quite average this season. They beat Hertford (whoever that is) by 4-3 in the 3rd round - before beating QPR on penalties in the 4th round, before beating Fulham 2-1 in the 5th round.
And in the league they are mid-table with 15 points from 11 games - so there is nothing to indicate that this is a vintage team

Have a feeling it will be a team from Manchester winning it

Plus we have taken their star striker

And a lot of our current U18s are eligible to play next year as well

Byrne-Hughes, Plunkett, Armer, Mills, Kukonki, Overy, Ibragimov, Thwaites, Bailey, Lusale, Chido-Obi and Mantato - add to that, we have a couple of talented players who are likely to be moved up and play regularly at the end of the season (like Bradbury)

Thanks. Looks like it’s at the Emirates too so I might go.

Really great opportunity to bring the FAYC back to its second home this year. We are as strong as I can remember and the rest of u18 look weaker than I can remember, our neighbours the exception. Straight fight between us and them for league and cup it looks like.

Chido and Scanlon are definitely the bright spots of the game. But I think Kamason is the one who caught my eye balls. He is strong, working hard and having a good cross under his belt. He may be deserved a chance in the first team at the end of the season.

Thought Munro was class last night, and every other time I have seem him play. I’m quite surprised that Kukonki seems to be closer to the first team than him to be honest.

Granted I am aware theres alot of games I wont have seen not including what goes on behind closed doors

It was probably at a time when we needed more of a left-footed defender than right footed one added to training / matchday squad. Now that we've signed left-footed youngsters like Heaven for LCB, and Dorgu and Leon for LWB, I'm not sure how close Kukonki will be for now. I agree Munro continues to impress.

I think Kukonki is being used for opponent set ups in training as he's physical and fast. I imagine it's doing him a world of good as he would be murdering everyone in u18 games. Would be too easy for him

He’s been good at U18s level but in no way has it been too easy for him.

Its been largely too easy for him. Has he had tougher opponents, sure, but he's taller and faster than almost everyone he's coming up against. He needs to be in 21s permanently in my opinion

Yes, physically he’s better than most opponents. However there are other parts of the game he needs to develop and can develop with the U18s too.

Absolutely his passing, positioning etc needs plenty of work, but he's winning every duel. Id rather see him up against tougher opponents while learning. I don't really see why this is such a problem for you, Yoro had a similar path.

It’s not a problem for me at all, just giving my opinion. Because of his physique he’s already involved in the U21s as well as first team. Plenty of time to play those physically more demanding games.

Kukonki doesn’t even start for the u18s in their strongest lineup. His hype seems to come from simply training with the first team rather than his actual performances. He’s looked weak at u21s level when played there.

I also question the idea of him being fast tbh, he’s looked very slow off the mark and has struggled in every match that involved a high intensity.

He has a lot to learn at u18s level. Don’t think he even effectively uses his strength that much. Reece Munro dominates with his strength and speed at u18s level, Kukonki doesn’t.
