He has every right to aswell. INEOS handled it so wrongly. Especially interrupting his holiday with his family. It should have been sorted before he went away so then we could have focused straight on signings. They’ve basically shown that they have no faith in ETH and I reckon the only reason they didn’t get tuchel or someone els is because they probably wanted full control or more wage than what was being offered. So INEOS are basically saying we have no other choice but keep ETH. I’d be fuming if I was him and I’d be tempted to quit my self if that ever happened to me. It’s like he’s being used because no one els wanted the job.
No doubt about it. Although, I don't think ETH is the manager that is going to bring us to the top, I have been saying from the beginning I don't like the way INEOS have handled this. They have undermined him by talking to other managers and taking a while to come to a decision. It looks like they are continuing with him as they couldn't find or come to terms with someone else. Basically, we can't find anyone else, so you continue. The famed "season review" was an exercise to find his replacement but then they didn't go through with it for whatever reason; which I am certain will come out in due time. Not a good look.

The hope against hope is that everyone can see past this and move on. We have a good window and a decent next season. It would be catastrophic if we don't start well and ETH is let go in the middle of the season, only for Sir Waistcoat to walk in, recently released from my English duties, after he has failed at another international tournament.

The only people here who seem "triggered" are the ones who are surprised that a TV interview resulted in a Caf discussion
The 'I'm better than everyone else' type posters like that one are the most hilarious. Add nothing the discussion but think anyone not agreeing with them is in 'meltdown' or 'triggered'. It's funny when they go to that general thread to repeat themselves .

'Meltdown'. How do some of you cope in real life outside the Internet?

Spot on, I was going to reply to that poster considering they're talking about me but I couldn't be arsed now when they couldn't even be bothered to quote me. They all hate being called out on their crap and it's getting really old.

I'm not even a ETH inner, I voted for him to be sacked, but it's done now, the decision has been made, time to just get on with it. I'm just sick of reading the absolute drivel the same lot post in here and then try and pass it off as "proper discussion". So I think childish replies is all they deserve now.

ETH has them by their balls. He is almost goading them and calling them novices.

The stupidity of this club's owners never ceases to amaze you.

Bye bye old Glazers, welcome new Glazers!

It's going to be an interesting next season. ETH will walk out with a huge payout and with his reputation intact as he would claim that the upper management is run by juveniles. He'll claim they undermined him, didn't support him in the window, injuries, yada, yada, yada. Say what you want about him, this guy can talk a good game and knows how to play his pieces.
He's being a fool in my opinion. New ownership wants to set up a new decision making structure (the right one in my opinion) and he's fighting it rather than aligning? That won't end well. Not for him, not for the club.

He doesn't have many good options either. No top club is lining up to sign him & why should he resign & walk away without a payout. It's best for him to wait for them to fire him & get his payday.

You are right, there is going to be intense pressure on everyone next season.

Red Card for Casemiro!
The club have gone for silence so far, to be fair. It's the media outlets that did all the talking, either because they were briefed or because they were speculating. Till EtH spoke out today, we were still doing guesswork.

The silence is better than reactionary statements, but letting the manager confirm media rumors, informed or otherwise, as 'everyone knows it' is in poor taste. EtH is undermining INEOS right now, because he is rightfully aggrieved about the way INEOS left him to dry with the media before and after the final. He received no support then, why should he provide any back now?

Letting that pre-final presser happen the way it did is on INEOS, as is their decision to talk to other managers before communicating it with EtH. They come out as the amateurs that are.

I'm all for Southgate bashing, but he kicked up such a fuss all season about pundits like Carragher going too hard on him, only to do the same to another manager.
What was so hard about it? And there surely is a difference for a NT manager and club manager regarding some of the pundit comments

He's got better options than that - get on board with the new transfer structure and not be an obstacle. Sign the new contract without the transfer veto.

Why would he surrender his power that is currently included in his contract that only runs out next year? He wants to build his own team, he doesn’t want owners that he doesn’t seem to even have a huge degree of belief in to pick players for him.

Am I just not as emotional because the season is over, and I'm bored and exhausted from this entire story or is the level of anger over these quotes just bonkers and over the top? He's just being dutch and weird on tv.
I think it’s a cultural thing of our time for so many to be preoccupied with ‘the looks’ of things. We all have basically the same opinion of Southgate’s tactics (e.a. They’re cautious to the point of something between boredom and self defeating), but if I’m not an armchair expert but a professional coach, it’s suddenly not ‘a good look’ - for those more interested in optics.

I was initially in the camp for Ten Hag not being here next season but if our only options for replacements were Poch and Southgate I guess I'm fine with him staying albeit not exactly happy but i don't really understand giving him a new contract when it's more than likely he'll serve up the same we saw all last season.

There was also Tuchel, but we already had the best manager.

Laurie Whitwell, on the last Talk of the Devils podcast, said that the club considered and spoke with a long list of potential replacements, and named;
  • Tuchel
  • De Zerbi
  • Poch
  • Frank
  • Potter
  • Marco Silva
  • McKenna
  • Roberto Martinez
  • Southgate
Not sure the club spoke with all of them, but sounds like Tuchel and De Zerbi got as far as discussing finances (unclear if talking about transfer budget or salary). Obviously this is just one reporter, and Whitwell isn't perfect - but I've never thought he was a bullshitter and he does have some pretty good club sources

Tuchel is not an upgrade over Ten Hag. His last season is arguably worse, his season before that was pathetic and the only noteworthy thing to his name is the CL he won with Chelsea... something ANY manager can do since it's a cup competition. If people want to replace Ten Hag with a guy who has imploded in every single club he has been and finished 3rd with Bayern last year in their farmers league, then I don't know what we're even doing.

People usually don't want to give up power. And why would he when he thinks that INEOS and people they have hired are neophytes. He is not wrong either: INEOS don't have a stellar record running football clubs, this would be Berrada's first CEO job, Wilcox's previous jobs have been academy related and Ashworth, the most experienced of the lot, is engaged in a battle with the Saudis. It's not a surprise that he trusts himself and his agency more than these guys.

All true... and very worrying for the club. I do believe that EtH should be gone for making to many mistakes during the season and to do to little to give me hopw things will improve and that hasn't changed.

But nonetheless right now I still trust him more to get it right than I trust INEOS and their attempts to create a new structure.

It's only the new norm because we're somehow accepting it becoming the new norm. Before ETH arrived finishing outside top 4 wasn't "the norm", it was a sackable offence. We're forever in the middle of a restructuring process or a "rebuild", it's like a universal excuse at this point. ETH is for sure building "something". We never finished 7th and that season was considered our worst in modern history... until ETH came along. It took him two years but he managed to beat it for sure.
Our worst ever season was under Moyes. We went from a title winning squad to 7th while being utterly humiliated by all our rivals home and away. The only reason we even finished 7th that season is because Giggs got us a couple of wins which bumped us up the table. Everything else is just mental gymnastics.

And the new norm is that we are not a title winning team and haven't been one since SAF retired.

No. We finished 6th the season before he took over. In a season where we had 3 managers. We finished 2nd and 3rd the prior two seasons so clearly 2nd/3rd was the average state of the squad relative to the rest of the league when ETH took over.

You dont go from 3rd to 8th in a restructuring/rebuilding process. Ever. There's no valid excuse for it. The only new norm is the fan base now eagerly lap up mediocrity and will feast on whatever platitudes are given out by the club, the manager or Ineos.
It's funny how you pick a small sample of 2 years just to prove a point while disregarding the previous 3 were we finished 6th, 2nd and 6th again. Mind you, that 2nd place Mourinho said at the time was the biggest achievement of his career. A lot of people(myself included) thought he was bigging himself up to look good. Now I realize with all the disfunction behind the scenes, he actually meant it.

While we are at it let's ignore the fact that the season before our 2nd and 3rd place finish we also finished 6th and that was inspite of Ole's winning run of 10 wins in a row or something crazy like that.

The fact that the season before ETH took over we were playing some of the most horrendous football somehow also gets disregarded. Or the fact that the players completely downed tools and refused to listen to Ragnick's pressing tactics. Let's ignore that as well. Or the fact that oppo teams would bypass our midfield as if it wasn't there and score 4 or more goals on multiple ocasions somehow gets memory holed. This season was a repeat of that season compounded by injuries. The only thing that made our season even worse is Casemiro's legs giving out completely. Hence we got way more exposed in the middle than normally.

Last season when we finished 3rd, was a honeymoon season with a manager bounce and Casemiro being in top form. Towards the end we already could see that the wheels were coming off simply because we were going back to our normal performance aka other teams bypassing us through the middle and scoring for fun. Yet only ETH gets blamed for a problem that we've been having since the early Ole days.

Now Ole did play a more robust double pivot of McFred to avoid this, but once we moved to a more controlling style of play, we got fully exposed. This cost him his United job. And it almost did ETH's as well. With the emergence of Mainoo, it looks like we have 1 piece in a 2 piece jigsaw puzzle. However we are in need of another top class midfield to shore up our midfield without losing the creativity. Rice would have been a very good option, but alas we went with Casemiro.

But yeah, sure let's ignore all these issues because we are a top class club that never finishes below 3rd. So anyone that does should be automatically sacked and then wonder why we haven't fixed our issues that we had since the Mourinho days. Maybe because we need to give the managers time to actually fix them?

Granted, now that we supposedly have a football structure and a potentially competent DoF, this issue shouldn't even be on the manager's radar. A DoF should take care of it. But of course having clowns like Woodward and Arnold run things, and lackeys like Murtough run the footballing department got us were we are. ETH clearly identified our midfield woes from day 1 when he tried signing De Jong/Rice with Casemiro for that extra robustness/creativity from the middle. So the man clearly knows what's the issue.

I have no sympathy for Ten Hag based on last season but the way Ineos has handled this is really poor.
They did not have confidence in Ten Hag so they started speaking to other coaches. Now that they are not able to come to an agreement with anyone else, they want to retain the guy they did not have confidence in the first place.
The whole process was not handled with much discretion and now the incumbent is rightfully feeling aggrieved and bitter.
Doesn’t sound promising for next season, does it?

I’m fully behind him on this. The club has shown to be incompetent in how we dealt with him so far and he has every reason to not trust them to get him the players he wants and needs. He’s not going to sign a new deal and then be accountable for being unable to deliver results with a team that doesn’t fit his ideas.

It's weird that I'm not sure if you are still on your "full sarcasm" mode or if you really mean it.

Which proves that this situation is REALLY ridiculous to unfold like it did.

Are we sure the disagreement relates to transfers or are there other sticking points as well? He didn't seem to have an issue with Overmars having transfer authority at Ajax, so I'd be surprised if it's the one thing holding up the contract.
