Still nothing on this from the club and/or INEOS, I think we all know he is gone at this point (apparently Benni McCarthy's agent pretty much confirmed it) so why the long delay in announcing it, this whole saga is getting more and more ridiculous by the day.
Wait, what?

I don’t think they’d announce he was staying would they!
Given the specualtion over the last month and especially last week. Then all the briefings to the press this week about season reviews etc. You'd imagine they'd want to draw a line under it all and publicly back Ten Hag if that is their decision.

Not doing so would just result in the speculation rumbling on for weeks.

Nope, but as a manager with a final say on transfers it is certainly part of his job to keep in mind that spending 100m€ on Anthony, 60m€ on Mount and 75m€ on Hojlund will come at the detriment of other targets. He was involved in the transfers, he is not blameless in the transfers. Easy as that.
He's not blameless but he didn't have the final say on transfers as you put it. Both EtH and Murtough had a veto. So at most he had 50% of the final say on transfers.

If he had a veto on transfers, which has been widely reported. Then Ten Hag had 100% say on which players were signed. No player could be signed without his approval.

That is fine, I do not want to assort more than 50% of the blame on him. There is enough blame to go around. Though I would have a hard time believing that Murtough would be the one pushing for Antony more than Ten Hag.

Wait, what?
The original Tweet I saw said it was his agent but the only ones I can find now say it was his agents's ally Peter Tu Doit who said

“l know Benni’s contract at Manchester United ends in June & that Erik ten Hag won’t be at United by then. So, believe me, Benni will leave.”

Actually I think it is good that the club waits with a sacking announcement after the FA Cup win. That event deserves to be the only news and development to be coming out of the club for a while, especially with that unfortunate sacking story hitting the news a few days before. I am glad they didn't overshadow a great win right away. Media speculation will always be rampant at this point.

We don't know this at all. Not as a fact. Two people said it and it was rinse and repeated by every other paper.
If it was bollocks they would have denied the rumours, almost a guarantee he’d be fired if we lost against City in the final

Well yeah that's true but also, no player could be signed without Murtoughs approval. So if the discussion is about who's to blame for our poor transfers the answer is both are equally culpable in my opinion.

That's fair enough. I'm sure EtH was the one who pushed for Antony yeah.

Fair, my last post wasn't an effort to blame anyone. Just pointing out that ETH had control over incoming transfers.

Though as he was the one primarily identifying targets and he has 100% control over alternatives through his veto. The he very much shaped our transfer strategy over the last 2 years.

Maybe blame is the wrong word to use. It seems that were both talking about who's responsible for our transfers.

I just disagree that EtH has been the main man behind our transfers. Clearly he identified some of the players but we've also signed players that it seems Murtough suggested like Casemiro and Hojlund.

If you agree that they both had a veto then surely they both can offer alternatives. I'd argue that it's more the responsibility of the DoF to provide alternatives and look long term at the squad, rather than the manager. EtH was so dependant on his agency and players he'd worked with before because its not his area of focus. The DoF should have a much larger network than that.

They'd obviously have to announce if ETH was going to be managing us next season, if that's the conclusion they'd reached via a "strategic review" they spent 2 weeks briefing everyone about.

Even if it was just a couple of sentences, it's gone way too far for radio silence.

Is the delay in making an announcement really linked to Southgate? This is taking a bit long if they're planning on confirming the manager.

You don't know why, but you know it's a fact?

How many of our signings are represented by SEG?
No idea besides Højlund and Ten Hag. There may be others.

You know how complicated transfers can be. Højlund had his mind made up about going to MU, so it makes sense he switched to Ten Hag’s agency.

I hope this isn't true. We can't afford another summer where we let every other club get a head start on transfers.
Looks like we already have. Still mulling over whether to sack him at this stage is fecking idiotic. I know next season is probably going to be a right off anyway but why make it harder for ourselves pissing about like this.
I didn't want jim to begin with but with the start he made he got my backing but how they've managed this shitshow they're undoing all the good.
How much has the Ashworth saga put us behind because it seems like we're unable to do anything until he comes.
Just pay the fecking money and get your arses in to gear ffs!

He may veto players, he doesn't choose what the board pay for them. Its absolutely crazy people think this.

You think the board delaying signing Antony was on him? When we could have signed him for so much less in June?

You think it was on him to go for Hojlund so late we got bent over?

Honestly. Some EtH out fans really need to get a grip.

I guess with the way you are going we should give Martial, Maguire, McTominay, AWB new contracts because it might cost £50m to replace them.
I’d keep Maguire. Thought he had a solid season when we had so many problems at the back. He kept Varane on the bench a number of times. Good player for rotation when we need to rest one of the two first choice CB’s (assuming we buy one or two others of course)

Ye but he’s not a long term type of guy is he. Has he ever been at a club longer than 2 years? I’d rather we didn’t turn into Chelsea and sack managers after a season or 2. Who els is winning us 2 trophies with our squad and the injuries we’ve had? You have to let the man build a squad. It’s simple.
He has been building a squad. Antony, Mount, Casemiro ……

Agree

Said before, even if we decide to keep him then he’s going to know that there is a lot of doubt about him from above

The only way the delay over a decision will make a bit of sense is if Ten Hag is sacked and immediately replaced. At least that’ll show they were getting things done behind the scenes. Otherwise I’m not sure what is going on
Yeah that's the only way the time taken would make sense, just praying it's not going to be Southgate as that is just Moyes 2.0 without a doubt

Mind you if he was staying why haven't they just announced it amongst all the positivity this week
I suspect if they do want him to stay then he has to accept some changes to his contract - head coach rather than manager, no veto on transfers etc. This may be why this is taking so long in order to negotiate this stuff. If he won’t accept then the sack is the only alternative. INEOS can spin this nicely - we gave him every chance to agree an extended contract, but we couldn’t agree on some issues that are fundamental to us.

Is there any reason to delay sacking him for financial reasons until July?
June 30th is when the accounts for this year must be recorded, however those accounts are not relevant to UEFA squad ratio new 80% rule which will allow revenue generated all the way up until 31st December 2024.

There maybe genuine issues with revenue as there was no European Football Revenue from January 1st to May 31st however the Fa Cup win will help a little although we had less home games this season in both cups.

It’s no real shock that there is not much cash available, £120m was used from SJR investment to pay off some of £260m owed, assuming that’s the case that leaves £160m available however I doubt that all of that can be used.

Here’s the issues as I see it but I might be wrong?
1. The club made their mind up that they would sack ETH before the FA Cup Final, both Joel Glazer and SJR probably decided together at the Semi Final of the Fa cup after watching the Coventry game.

2. As soon as CL football could not be obtained, they started sounding out potential coaches.

3. Genuinely believe their shortlist was 4 coaches , McKenna, Tuchel, Pochetino and De Zerbi.

4. After the Fa Cup Win, especially the manner in which it happened, the pr machines for keeping ETH and sacking him ramped up.

5. Right now I think he has directors who support him( Joel Glazer, Avram Glazer, Jason Wilcox, Jean Claude Blanc)
Directors who do not support him (SJR, Sir David Brailsford, Roger Bell)
Directors who are not in current position and are ok either way (Omar Berada, Dan Ashworth)
6. Before they can calculate a true transfer Budget they need to consider all the financial implications of signing a new DOF, Technical Director and then a new coach and the pay off for ETH and his coaching team.
7. For Example De Zerbie mutual consent agreement still involves a £4-5m payment to Brighton add £2-3m for Wilcox and £7-8m for Ashworth plus £10m for ETH and all his coaches and this is potentially £25m which will effect PSR/FFP this summer as these are normally one off upfront payments and cash this summer is incredibly tight!

So yes potentially they might want to delay sacking him so it can go in next years annual filing report, however the more obvious answer is their is a genuine split between the decision makers and as much as Sir Jim thinks he’s the main man, so does Joel Glazer as well, he appointed the coach, he will argue that he’s won back to back trophies and his CV is as good if not better than all the current applicants with the exception of Tuchel who may be an adverse appointment to the growing group of talented youth players coming through.

What this delay proves and further delays already in potential new signings are that Avram and Joel still retain a lot more control than what’s being printed in the media?

In what way is this even remotely our worst season? We finished 7th with Moyes from being champions, no trophies whatsoever. I'd argue last season with Ole was worse, as well as Mourinho's last, etc.

The longer this drags on, the more likely it is that ETH will stay.
Disagree.

I'd say it's the more likely he will go - on the premise that it's already been decided and they're waiting for the right time to announce it.

For example, god forbid, the new manager agreed is Southgate and INEOS don't want the backlash of disrupting England.

Surely they would have said if he was staying by now. Maybe the new manager cant be announced yet as his contract hasnt expired at his present club. Who knows?

Lot's of straws being clutched here.
