69 Injuries vs 115 Charges | FA Cup Final Build-up Thread

If, as in a alcohol fuelled fantasy dream, Antony was to run the length of the pitch and chip Ederson to win it in the 10th minute of 6 minutes of extra time (City time as it's now known), would we all insist he stays?.

Insist is a strong word, you forgot him running off cupping his ears to the City fan in seat 115, row E.
I dream of him just getting that little bit quicker so, on one of the many times he beats his man, they don't then just run back goal side and tackle him.

That 2008 Portsmouth one still hurts. How we didn't score that game still confuses me.

The title of this thread is brilliant

We will probably be up to 115 injuries by the time the cup is upon us

If you look at his head to his body, there is at least a 5% enlargement. It's probably fat, or combined head/hair weight. A few inches of his head would lighten him up.

Will shaw and martinez be back for this?
Shaw unlikely (maybe I'm wrong), Martinez should even play few games before the final if he doesn't get injured again.

I don't think last 10 years have been that bad, especially comparing them to 10 years before that where we had better, title winning teams many times. 2018 final loss to Chelsea is a shame. Don't remember Mourinho losing domestic cup final other than that time and vs Atletico with Real in 2013.

2018 final was shameful. Just turned up and strut about looking like they don’t really care. Awful game and the end of Mou for me.

As it's still a month away, with luck, some of the lame and the stricken will have risen from their palliases and we'll be able to field something resembling a functional defence.

Maybe Martial, in a final cameo of 'what might have been' will start and score a devastating brace.

Maybe a fit and firing Mount will turn in a performance that clearly demonstrates why we paid £60million for him.

Maybe I'll flap my arms and fly to the moon. But you have to have hope.

Thank feck Chelsea didn't get through after all. We are their bitch in this competition.

If this was the Ole days, I'd be a lot more confident, because we tended to be quite strong on the counter back then, helped by Rashford being a functioning footballer. These days it is just extremely hard to see where a goal against City will come from. Walker will eat Rashford for breakfast, Højlund will take hopeless fights against City's centre-backs, and Bruno will surely desperate passes all over the place.

Best chance is to keep it really tight at the back and not let them score in the first half. As the game potentially becomes more open after the break, our chance of getting something out of it will also increase.

Playing football the Jose way

Onana
Dalot Varane Martinez Shaw
Mainoo Casemiro
Garnacho Fernandes Rashford
Hojlund

Fully fit we'd have a chance. No De Gea is a big enough improvement since the last final and they've lost Gundogan since too.

I'd rather replace Rashford from the starting lineup to give us an even better chance. Plenty of time for everyone to be fit unless the United physios want to feck this up too.

Yes I'd agree whatever slim hopes of winning depends on having that back four.

You’d never know if it wasn’t displayed in cold, hard fact like this. Truly abysmal.

No talk of the reduced ticket allocation for the final this year? 30k, which is 4000 fewer than last year. I’ve attended all the cup games this season and most league games, but I still only have red membership and it’s silver and above to qualify. Fair enough, although am gutted to not be eligible for the final. Gonna have to hope for a ballot now.

I thought Utd were the better team on the day by a stretch but in Hazard Chelsea had the best player, he was a beast that day. I remember we really missed Lukaku injured that day too, we were good but lacked an edge up front.

We remember the game very differently, they just sat in and we were pretty good but without a striker. Just Phil Jones being an absolute idiot for the pen but otherwise the setup and attitude was good.

That Arsenal final. We absolutely battered them and they win on penalties. It was a shockingly one-sided final.

Nah, you’re remembering it wrong as they were also shite. Our performance was completely toothless, laboured and boring.

Depends on the match fitness of those two in particular but that looks pretty much our best team. Wouldn't be surprised to see AwB and one of the other centre backs start though.

There's a great redemption arc for one of our players to get the winner. Mount or Rashford grabbing the winning goal or Martial in his final game for the club :D

Go on the match day thread from that game and you’ll start questioning that memory.
Of all the bastions of truth out there you could have referred to, you used the single worst one. That thread is like we’re 0-5 down playing against 9 men every week.

Most worrying thing for me is that we're going to the cup final against our rivals with such a negative vibe around the club, the fans hate the manager, massive injuries, no momentum, terrible results/form. Anything can happen but it's starting to feel really difficult to think of a way we can win this against a great team, and it shouldn't be this way.

Will shaw and martinez be back for this?

Martinez was kicking a ball around recently.

Shaw is just a lost cause as usual. That is, until you bring in some competition for his position and miraculously he stays fit and plays out of his skin long enough to keep his spot.

We lost in the 5th round in 2006.

is there a reason you changed from saying “6th round” to “quarter final”? was there a name change I missed?
