DERMOT SAYS: "It's so so difficult because this is not an exact science.

"On the one hand, you say to me I don't want two yellow cards for Dalot, but two minutes later you say you want a yellow for Salah and three for Nunez.

"I have nowhere to go. Whichever way I jump, you will say I'm wrong.

Such a weird guy
Yes we ask for cards for Salah and Nunez only because Dalot was given TWO cards. If Dalot was given just one card, no one would be talking about Nunez or Salah even though it would have been justified to ask.

The problem is the referee didn't "jump" only on one side. He keeps jumping towards a different side to a similar situation in the same game. That's where the problem is.

You have nowhere to go because you're trying to defend the indefensible. Why can't he see this? It's ok to say the ref got it wrong!
I love how he creates a false narrative where people are suggesting Dalot shouldn't be booked for dissent but Nunez should, and therefore no matter what he says people will disagree with him.

Why come on a review show if all you want to do is agree with the referees decision?
It's not surprising what he said though considering he had continued to defend the decision not to give United that penalty against Spurs even after Arsenal got one against Spurs for the exact same thing.

It’s so weird. It’s like he’s painted himself into a corner but refuses to acknowledge he was the one holding the paintbrush. “You see, I appear to have been painted into a corner here. How unfortunate. Really nothing I could have done to avoid this.”

I loved this bit: “Gallagher added: "In the current climate, the referee has no choice. I get the United fans will call for Nunez to be sent-off, but the referee didn't choose to do it [that time]”. In other words, the ref can pick and choose when he feels aggrieved…

He's just made life harder for his colleagues
Not at all. PL refs are not even consistent with their decisions in the same game, leave alone taking a precedent from something that happened in a different game in a different week. They can do however they please, PGMOL has got their back.

What’s the point of a “ref watch” is this is the level of analysis given?

“The ref has to do what he’s told”

“Well, if that’s the case why didn’t he do it in these instances?”

“Erm erm it’s not an exact science”

what the feck :wenger:

Reminds me of some posters on here to be fair who say “it was a red because the referee gave it!!”

It is like a radio broadcast. You can only listen to what the guy says, you are not expected to give any feedback.

Honestly, I almost feel sorry for Dermot at this point. He’s so keen not to criticise any refereeing decision that he ties himself in knots over the inconsistencies, week in week out. Absolute clown but Sky probably think it makes for good TV.

Look I was perfectly happy saying that it was correct to give Dalot a second yellow. Now you are asking me to apply the same logic and say that he got it wrong by not doing the same to a Liverpool player and quite frankly I’m never going to do that.

Ref Watch was the most bizarre I’ve seen it.
They should shut down the show. Pointless. Every week he reinforces the point that refs are allowed to apply the rules whenever it pleases them or ignore rules because "that's what ref felt at that moment". And we already know this.

Fair play to Dermot, milking this for as long as he can. Free cash for him basically.

If he makes a big deal out of it he'll get big punishments. It's one rule for Man Utd and another for the other clubs.
Yes, but this will be constantly in the media putting pressure on the refs. And the refs react to media pressure the most.

Red Card for Casemiro!

Cheap price to pay. I'm quite confident that once refs have to think twice before trying to win spotlight in our games, we will end up saving the points equivalent of signing a good midfielder through the rest of the season.

There’s plenty of fodder to criticize ETH but not acting like a coked out chimpanzee like Arteta is not one of them.

What he is saying can be interpreted in only one way. Lets jump on ManUtd and let others be, hoping that it would just be put under the rug.

No problem. Everybody knows how ManUtd team are being treated by referees and media. We hope that club somehow, somewhere find a keyboard and make some official statement.

And tries to waste time and wriggle out of it by talking about when he reffed over 50 years ago (I almost expected sitcom laughter after that.) Later on, his only response seems to be 'I know but it's not pretty is it?', like he's some lost-lost relative of Smigel (which he may well just be...)

All refs, current and ex belong to the same mafia. No one can convince me otherwise.

Consistently inconsistent as always. Have you ever seen a sending off similar to Dalots before? No. Will you see one like it again? No probably not. That's the problem that PGMOL and the Referee mafia are struggling to see with this instance.

It isn't that Dalot was sent off for two separate acts of dissent within seconds of each other, it's the fact that everyone knows the same standard has not been applied in the past, and will not be applied in the future.

Can't help but feel that after recent events in Turkey the PGMOL have decided to make an example and Oliver has picked the easiest target in a high profile game knowing that a sending off in the 93rd minute in a 0-0 game is unlikely to have any impact on the result so he avoids any big controversy. Its cowardly if you ask me, if they wanted to set an example of no nonsense when it comes to dissent than Nunez should of been sent off it would of been brave but it certainly would of set an example especially because it was a very fair separate yellow for the challenge and the dissent was a separate issue.

What is the point of this segment? He just defends both decisions and then flatly refusing to enter into a discussion about comparing the two because he'd be wrong either way. Well yeah you're obviously wrong if you're trying to claim. the ref applied the rules consistently. The problem isn't the question ffs

It is yet again, a disgrace from Oliver against Man United, doubled down with disgraceful defence from Dermot who is smirking at the whole situation.
Referees and VAR are basically taking the piss out of United because it gets them kudos from anyone that isn’t a United fan.
As a club, we need to put out a statement, as it’s gone on for too long. Other clubs have done the same without punishment and have indeed been given favourable treatment ever since.
So if United did come out with a statement and were then punished for doing so, it would be blatantly obvious that they are being treated differently

One of the worst things is people like Oliver behaving like school teachers and failing to understand that it’s the 93rd minute of a huge game with the guy trying to fight hard to get a point. Being able to manage game situations is a huge part of being a ref and Oliver completely failed in his duty
