Would only let him go if Malacia's injury isn't too severe. I rate him highly but with Shaw and Malacia it's difficult for him to get games this season.

Does anyone rate him above Malacia? If his attack is strong but defensively he’s iffy wouldn’t he be better off in a lcm role or higher up?

If Maguire is sold and we don't bring in another center back, I could see the potential of moving Shaw to center back and letting both Fernández and Malacia battle it out for the starting left back position. But Malacia's injuries and lack of gametime is a concern somewhat.

Positively surprised about his jump. Very good in the air once again. Some nice skills too.

Shaw would be an LCB though, which is where Martinez plays.

Technically very sound and great stride/ball carrying. He's honestly like a [Irrelevant point] regen.

I have doubts about his physicality/pace but if he develops even more physically he could be a very interesting player.

Good on the ball, a lot of similarities to Shaw with his composure and ability to shape a nice pass. Didnt look premier league level defensively and was beaten a few times

Some people seem to and I don't get it. Malacia is a much more promising player in that particular position. Having said that, Alvaro seems like he might have a lot of potential being pushed more to the middle of the pitch.

Don't agree. They play good football but think they'll struggle to translate it to the PL and be under the cosh for most of the season. Not a good loan move for a player who's best attributes are going forward.

Or maybe its were he needs to go to horn that aspect of his game?

I like the look of him, sometimes with certain footballers I get the impression they're playing the role that doesn't get the best of their strengths. This guy to me looks like a midfielder. Just my thought.

All well and good but if he gets exposed defensively week in week out with Burnley getting relegated it's hard to argue it's productive for him. Williams at Norwich for example.

Just based on this pre-seasons, Malacia looks street ahead of this youngster. And we have Dalot who could play as LB.

What? He's looked very composed on the ball and way way better going forward than Malacia, the latter of whom has also shown some flaws in his defending.

I thought he was very good today though I heard ETH going apeshit with him for not pushing further up in our buildup just before he got subbed off.

I'd like to keep him till the end of the window even if he goes out on loan as cover for Shaw.

I don't see how you have come to this conclusion. He looked very good yesterday. He has a lot of attributes going for him that Malacia doesn't.

Watching preseason, only pellistri, mainoo and gore that caught my eyes. What should I say? I didn't see anything special with fernandez. It doesn't mean anything anyway.

Feels like he's naturally more talented than Malacia but I think the age and experience profile of both put him on the huge disadvantage here. Also feel like he's more suitable for Spanish or Dutch football than PL.

Agreed. I hope we can keep him rather than send him off on loan somewhere to rot, as most of our loanees have.
I think he will have opportunities where we need to rest Shaw or play Shaw at CB. Hopeful for him

Very talented lad on the ball but defensively he's shocking at times. Not ready to challenge for a spot at United yet.

Burnley would be a really good destination for him this season. Could develop into a real player. Reminds me a bit of Sergio Ramos when young.

Really? What qualities are similar? I ask because I don't think he's anything like him, he's oddly like a young Luke Shaw for me

He is a big spanish boy with long beautiful hair playing fullback, with great promise on the ball but I agree I haven't seen much proof he'll ever turn into a CB but if I remember correctly there were also doubts about Ramos defensively at that age so you never know.

I know some don’t like it but I’d play him in midfield. Still young enough to adapt and could add balance. For reference players like Van Bronckhorst, P Cocu and Zenden have done similar I’m sure at a similar age too.

IIRC Ramos was mainly known for being a physically developed and athletic full back, with a good level of technique and game intelligence but he was a hot head.

Other than superfical looks, stylistically they're very different. Fernandez is more calm, whilst Ramos was the storm.

As I've mentioned in my previous post, Fernandez is a [Irrelevant point] regen. Lanky and silky on the ball but defensively suspect; I think he has a higher ceiling though if he can develop his game and physicality even more.

Yeah I can definitely see the Alonso comparison. Maybe he can develop similarly and the lack of out right pace won’t hinder him too much. He has a lot of positive attributes.

He would be better off with slightly less talent that he has something of for a little bit of speed which he would need to play in the Premier League

He doesn't score goals like Alonso

Depends what you mean. I'd you mean for us then I'd say absolutely not as he's not good enough to play for us currently. If you mean just in general then I absolutely agree, he seems tailor made to play the role Zinchenko plays.
