Maguire | he stays!

Because he is English he wont lose value as some deadwood especially to the lower PL.

id ask for 40 & accept 35+add ons. He is a good player at the wrong club at the wrong strength.
Tell that to Celski. They rejected 60-70 mil 2 years ago for Odoi. Now he is going for 5 mil.

Varane, Lindelof, Licha, Shaw.

Don't think we need to go out and spend decent money on a CB. Bring in a youngster from somewhere if we must.
So 2 injuries away (probably Varane+1) from a makeshift defence.

I like Shaw at CB (maybe even more than Martinez) but it severely weakens us at LB.

Was going to make a point about pitch sizes, because West Ham’s always looks small on the telly and I’ve watched a couple of live games there too and it looked small then, but apparently no difference between that and old Trafford.
Can that possibly be right?
Maguire is best when he doesn’t have to run too much!

It would be great to be rid of Maguire, but with 2 years left on his contract, any transfer fee less than 80/6*2 = ~26.7 million pounds actually reduces our ability to spend wrt the FFP constraints.

Thats why there is a good chance he’ll see out his contract and leave for nothing like lots of our players have done previously. Given his wages it’s going to be a struggle to sell him and break even in terms of FFP.

I don’t see why West Ham would be willing to pay anything over 25m for him so offering 20 isn’t a terrible offer.

Keeping him will cost £20-25 mill next year. Bringing in a new defender for £30 mill and £120k a week would cost approx £11 mill a year. Even taking a loss on Maguire of £6-7 mill would be cheaper than keeping him for a year. And it would put the club in a much better state in 24/25.

(Furthermore, the club will probably make significant profit on a few home grown players and Fred. So taking a hit this year should be fine.)

Maguire has had success at Hull, Leicster, Utd & England better imo.
I dont see why we cant get 20-25 next season or Jan, no need for it now

Yeah, good luck in finding a CB cheaper and better.

I'm not sure you will but it needs to be viewed from the perspective that for West Ham this sort of signing is a luxury not a hard and fast requirement. We have hugely pressing issues in central midfield and so that is no doubt where a vast chunk of our budget will go.

Simply put we can't go spending 30-40% of our transfer budget on a CB, regardless of how good they may end up being at West Ham.

We do need a cb, but it doesn't gave to be a first choice imo, someone who can grow into the role would do this season.

I would take £65M for Maguire and Mctominay. I think that would be fair.

Maguire will play for the next 4 year, Scottie for the next 7. Plenty to miles left in both.

The cheek of them to think £20m buys Maguire. Hes criminally underrated now.

That makes sense. West Ham should focus on Rice replacement first.

Are they actually interested though?
Maybe an Elanga type situation where we found out he wasn't interested in going to Everton before it was apparent he was going to Forest.

Even if it's not concrete, you'd think his team is at least exploring other options that seem reasonable

Sure why stop there , why not wait till Madrid come knocking ya big oaf.

To be fair he is better than any defender they currently have on their books. Romero does a decent imitation of a good defender but is very error prone and hotheaded and besides him they have Udogie who has never played in the PL, Dier who is terrible, Sanchez who is leaving, Joe Rodon who is also leaving, Tanganaga who is Championship level and at a push Ben Davies who is better off on the left side of a back 3 or as an out and out LB.

I’m sure he’s fully aware of the clubs interested in him. It’s the whole point of having an agent.

The problem United have is that players they want to buy are usually first team players that are important to their club.

When United are selling, it tends to be players out of favour or ones they are actively trying to shift on over inflated wages.

Buyers and sellers have got us over a barrel

Exactly but it's a problem for nearly all big clubs. We tend to focus on positive stories for other clubs but last year Real Madrid let Jovic go to Fiorentina permanently for nothing, a free transfer for a 60m sigining.

West Ham can jog on with their low bid. We are not getting an adequate replacement with that money.

Maguire as 4th choice is fine if no one is willing to throw a decent bid.

What an insulting and derisory offer, especially after they’ve flogged the overrated Englishman Rice for over £100 million.

Moysey and WH can go feck themselves.

Ofcourse I understand that but Maguire is a tailor made player for Moyes team. Low block, brilliant in air and very physical too.

If you guys bid 50-60 for both Maguire and McT I think it would be accepted. You will still have another 40 to spend on a DM.

Selling Maguire for less than £30m might be difficult with FFP because I think he still has a book value of around £26-27m. If we could push West Ham to something like £25+5m, that might be a reasonable outcome for everyone. Anyone know how the add-ons work in terms of FFP bookkeeping?

They think they can sell Rice for 100m, then start bidding 20m for 50 cap England starters

 As if Moysey is involved in fee sizes.

Thought of him spitting down the phone in anger like Malcolm Tucker at the DoF in a thick Scotch accent 'After what they did to me! Twenty million and not a penny more!'

I'd ship him for £30M without a second thought. £20M is too low, though.

£30m is fair in my opinion.. still an England international and for a team like West Ham and the way they play I think he’d do well.

Get them to raise it to 25 and send him off. Another 10 million a year in saved wages. 55 million total.

I don't think he'll go, just doesn't seem there's enough desire from the club and especially him to move this summer.
