I’ve only seen Chelsea fans Moan about Mount leaving. I’ve not seen them to bothered about Kovacic, koulibaly etc. says a lot really.

he’s one of their own and mr chelsea. Now he’ll be walking out in a United kit instead, surreal:devil: he’s been with them since 2005 (he was 6), player of the year twice during champions league winning season at that. Youth player of the year aswell. ETH knows this player well from his time at vitesse, where he scored 14 goals and assisted 9 in 32 matches. ETH has then seen him go on and become the player he did at Chelsea (except last season) and an England international. He knows and loves this player. His first choice this summer above everyone else. People moaning about him are thinking about last season but under Roman abromavich this sale wouldn’t be happening. Not a chance, he would have cost Grealish/rice numbers and probably wouldn’t have wanted to leave. This transfer is circumstantial but exciting for us. Let’s see if ETH can get what Thomas tuchel did out of him!

This looks like the deals we normally do in the end of the transfer window when we are desperate. Overpaying and putting him on a salary he has done nothing last year to deserve.

We gave a last offer (3rd offer). We should have walked away. Do we actually have children doing the negotiations for us.

1st offer -> Chelsea : No
2nd offer :->Chelsea : No
3rd and final offer -> Chelsea : No
Chelsea : Lets discuss in meeting - You can have him if you pay what we want -> Man Utd : OK ???

Guess we now have to hope that both Bruno and Mount can adjust to playing safer, learning how to carry the ball from defense and control the pace of a game + doing more defensive work than they have in the past.
All well and good but we didnt pay what they want so your post is completely wrong.

Mount bearing the brunt of criticism has more to do with people disliking the direction Ten Hag is taking our midfield moreso than it is to do with him as a player.

Feel free to dislike it, I guess, but Ten Hag has no interest in playing somebody like Caicedo alongside Casemiro. It’s just not the plan. He wants somebody like Mount, and Mount is about as good as is available when it comes to a midfielder of his profile.

Chelsea wanted £70m and in years gone by we'd have pretended to go for other targets only to come back and pay over the odds-on deadline day. You know what fair play to United. Actually showed some balls finally and walked away and Chelsea have accepted what we were prepared to pay. After years of incompetence in the transfer market they might finally be getting a clue. £55m + £5m for Mount is cheap in todays market. Mount's a complete all rounder player which is why Ten Hag desperately wants him & why United didn’t walk away. Ten Hag has long wanted to sign Mount and I think he'll be a great addition to our midfield. Ten Hag is clearly planning to play with two advanced number 8s like he did at Ajax. I think pairing him up with Bruno going into attack will help United immensely. Bruno creates tons of chances but can be erratic. Having a player alongside him who has a great engine and can score and create in good numbers seems a good fit. Obviously we need a # 9 but if/when we get one to go along with the rest of our attacking players, I think we could have the making of a very potent attack and I think Mount could be a double digit goal scorer. I for one can't wait to see Mount at United flourishing under Ten Hag proving all his doubters wrong. There's a reason why Ten Hag desperately wants him.

Going to say we needed Kim Min-jae or another pacey, reliable CB and atheltic DM as we'll have to play a high line.
We can maybe get by for one more season, would have liked Timber but it looks like he's heading to Arsenal. Varane and Martinez will get us through one more season but we will need another come next summer.

I don't think we can rely on Varane to stay fit for the season and Lindelof isn't good enough even to be back up.

Ballsy decision from ETH for the midfield since the De Jong ship had sailed for good.

Nevertheless, it's in accordance with (what ended up being) our go-to tactical set-up in ETH's first season. Whether it will prove to be a good move or not, it remains to be seen on the pitch. But, if you're still screaming about the "lightweight" midfield, you probably haven't been paying attention.

Anyway, if there are any grievances, they should be about the general direction. After all, it is a move which indicates that we are doubling down and building on what we were doing last season. I have my doubts, too. On the other hand, reality dictates that: a) Only Klopp and Pep, among today's managers, have the gravitas to force a monumental tactical U-turn, and b) until the sell of the club is completed, United don't have the funds to do it.

Mount is a good player who can help us become better under the current tactics.

For this guy to be a success here we need to sign Onana so lets hope that gets done ASAP.

Some get it. I believe there's also a correlation between agreeing a fee for Mount and our decision to pull the plug on whatever deal there was on the table for De Gea. We'll see, it's a speculation. I also think that, if there's going to be a move to bolster up the first phase of the build-up, it will be either a RB or a right-footed defender instead of another midfielder.

Truth is, if he comes in and has a Martinez type impact, no one will mention his price tag ever again. What's funny is how there's been more outrage over the price of this transfer than Antony's, even though we overpaid by more than double this one.

This isn't to to say Antony won't come good, I think he will. We just massively overpaid for what he was last year.

Antony is a weird one because whilst his output isnt spectacular on the wing I am adamant he brings a shed load to the team.

He is always available for the pass, always tracking back, always opens up the space.

I think Antony brings more to the bigger picture than people realise.

Of course he brought something. He certainly added value. He stood out even more because we had no other good options on the right wing. That being said, when you think of an £86M winger, his output last season isn't what you'd imagine. If he keeps the good from last year, gets more use to the pace of the league and starts making better decisions, he'll truly elevate us.

Agree with this, workrate is great and personally love the fire he brings. Just better decisions ans an increase in his stats to shut people up and he'll have a great season.

feel emotionless about the signing and hope we have enough money to fill the most important holes like GK,CF etc.

i don't think we'd be pulling DDG's contract offer and then letting it run down to free agency without a GK plan.

I think with Mason Mount, there are qualities that are obvious to the casual fan viewer but, perhaps more qualities that are only evident to the coaches/managers/players who have seen him close up and in training.

A few years back, the season after Chelsea's title win, I was speaking with a Chelsea academy player.

I asked him from the players at the club who's he impressed by most in training or rates really highly. I expected him to say the usual suspects, i.e. Hazard or Kante.
He actually chose Mason Mount. He said even when training with the first team at that time, the other senior players were impressed by him and he didn't look out of place.

I understand the lack of excitement some may have over this transfer, I'm a bit conflicted about it myself.
Ultimately we have to accept we're limited in our perception and trust the manager's judgement on this one.

Probably true to a degree, but ten Hag was utterly committed to De Jong and spent an entire summer chasing him before we pivoted to Casemiro when it became clear De Jong was a dead end. He's clearly a pragmatist who makes the best of the cards he's dealt.

Chelsea wanted over £60m by all accounts. Closer to £70m.

United offered in the region of £50m and ended up paying £55m with £5m in potential add ons.

Is that really such a bad negotiation?

A good comparison would be Sterling's deal to Chelsea, last year of contract, an older player who went for £50m.

It actually looks like very good negotiations, as United threatened to walk away which led to Chelsea reducing their demands.

But of course, we need to have a moan at United for everything I guess.
We started around 40 (fair offer) and Chelsea around 70 (no club wanted to pay this).

Our final third offer was 50+5. We ended up paying 55+5, so above final offer. Yes bad negotiation (especially for a player that was on the last year of contract and played poorly last year).

But if our intentions from the beginning was to get him for 60 or below then I guess it was acceptable negotiations. But other clubs will now know we do not do final offer.

We definitely need to sell one as we have two priority signings still pending. If we take 150m as reference, then we have less than 100m for goalkeeper and centre forward. I find it difficult to believe we will bring another CM in those circumstances. Fred will likely be gone and Eriksen will take his place as a squad player (it's another very interesting discussion on how valuable is Eriksen as squad player actually).

See - this is just talk about how good/effective Mount is in attacking third and on the ball. And you also mentioned you play mostly with two 6s, therefore Mount had much more freedom than he will have at United.
I'm just worried about how good he is in defensive/mid 3rd, because he will be having a lot of responsibilities there.
Thats why i said he is perfectly capable of carry out things tactically wanted by manager.

He has all the traits to be a no.8. If manager wants him to man mark midfielder or press certain area whoever comes in that area carrying ball he can accomplish the job.

He has pretty good spatial awareness and can manipulate little space to his team s advantage. Very little turn radius for him so he got time to keep the ball ticking even he receive the ball back to goal. Plenty of these traits can be applied to perfect no. 8.

So dont know what you are actually expecting from him. He is not destroyer thats for sure but can be a great no. 8.

Slight difference Caicedo is available and would be willing to move if Ten Hag wanted to take us in different direction he would have , I don't buy the funds angle at all as some are suggesting if Caicedo was Ten Hag's priority signing it would be getting done we actually have form for this rightly or wrongly .

I disagree, I think we are hamstrung by finances and the lack of clarity over ownership this summer. But fair enough.

I take your point, but it’s fair to say that if you gave Ten Hag the pick of any midfielder in the world football, he’d probably plump for De Jong.

I honestly don’t think Casemiro was ever part of the plan. Now he has him, our midfield targets will suit the fact he is there. As you say, Ten Hag is a pragmatist.

I understand the reservations around Mount, I do. I’ve moaned enough about him for England. But I can understand why he’s a good fit for this team right now. Moreso than Caicedo.

He absolutely did, particularly when you consider it was his first season in English football. He was also getting better as the season went along and I think we missed him massively in the FA Cup final. Yeah he was expensive but he's an essential player in ETH's system and his importance is just going to grow with time. I would agree his output needs to improve, but in general, he's a cracking player.

Now that they've agreed a fee in June, does it go on to the Chelsea accounts for this financial year due to it being projected income for Chelsea now, or just on the next one when it'll actually be signed and sealed?

For me - this gives me the likelihood of signing Kane & possibly even the return of the Unamed.

Kane
Unamed-Rashford-Mount

or

Kane
Mount-Unamed-Rashford

Mount will be leading the press as a free roaming number 8 & finding the pockets of wider space to play in crosses from these wider spaces to the Unamed, Rashford or pulled back crosses to Kane - who himself has three options to play in on goal depending on how deep he finds himself.

Mounts wider movements will be moving the opposition defenders all over the place which will leave Bruno (or even Kane depending how deep he finds himself) the opportunity to play in the unamed, Rashford, Mount & even Kane himself through on goal.

If newcastle/aston villa would sign mount for 40m , the posters here would have a field day (and rightly so). Such an average player, yet somehow 55m plus 250k per week is amazing business as if he is a prime robben.

The briefs and PR to give himself a pat on the back after one deal...

Did we overpay a bit? Yes maybe 5-10 millions.

But let's wait and see him in action before we can judge him as another overpriced player.

Some things never change. Worst bit is they're using Chelsea's starting price to suggest we got him cheap as if Chelsea hadn't laid down a false high demand.

Chelsea will be very happy with the deal. Let's see how well he does selling players.
