We looked as good in Van Gaal's first preseason and ended up losing our first Premier League game against a team that had just been promoted.

Maybe wait until we've won an actual game before you start drinking the Kool-Aid. Otherwise, you're just setting yourself up for disappointment.
And I'd argue that we looked coached under LVG. About a decade out of date, but coached. Which is what we've lacked for ages. Which is all the OP said.

Erik ten Hag's press conference has just finished in Australia. Marcus Rashford also present.

More Eric Ten Porn material:

Thanks for posting. You too @Adnan with the presser.

Watching that back it’s obvious what we’ve been working on and the key principles of Ten Hag’s plan.

The players will watch that back as a collective and be able to see it too. This will help with the buy in.

It’s great to see how hands on Ten Hag is and how passionate about getting his message over to the lads is. When you consider we’ve not got any new additions in here I’m getting more and more optimistic that the team has more to show next season.

Exactly.

Life isn't linear and will be full of bumps along the way. But nevertheless, it's time to be positive.

I’m baffled we had some posters saying they could see no difference! It’s pretty obvious and the level of fitness seems better too.

Think it makes a difference not only having Ten Hag but having top coaches like McClaren and Van der Gaag with him to help implement and understand the philosophy.

Even Sancho's goal, the build up and position of the cross was a carbon copy of that training clip where Sancho assisted Rashford.

Patterns where even if players move around, they know what space needs to be filled in, where to move off of it and where the pass/cross should be played.
There was another moment in the game with the same build up. Sancho received the ball in the same position as in the training clip, Rashford was open in a similar position. The cross was definitely on but Sancho didn't try it for some reason

I suspect some of the whingers are just being contrarian and are attention seekers. New Management structure/personnel -- a proper re-build and also a new manager and yet they keep harping on to the past. Should be like Christmas or New Year's Day.

Time to leave the past behind.

Any new team/personnel always deserves the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise. This is their honeymoon period. And yet... I am sure they are almost subconsciously hoping for us to lose so that they can say 'I told you so' or they can exorcise their personal issues onto the forum.

On the fitness, Varane's post match interview shows how much we are working on improving fitness as EtH style of play is very demanding physically.

- We have to be very fit, it's very physical way to play
- This is a very physical style, that's why know we have to work very hard in training session

What impressed me the most about yesterday was that we tried to play front foot attacking football.

Usually in recent years, whenever we have won against Pool/City its usually been on the counter
, with the other team dominating possession. But yesterday, we tried to keep the ball, played quick, and pressed high. It was nice to see the rotations and third man runs/passes. The invertion of fullbacks and midfielders dropping in and out were interesting to see.

Lets keep it going now. Hopefully Eriksen, FDJ and Martinez join the squad in pre season.
Still watch highlights from the time under Ole and I still can't believe how we setup. Pick any random compilation, at least half of it starts with one, maybe two max United players in the opponent half and everyone else in our half. Ole was just Jose with a bow.

Still early days of course but some of the plays from Tuesday are night and day compared to what we've been seeing in the last. Well 8 years.

What I liked the best in the Liverpool match is that this 4-0 scoreline was achieved with virtually the last season's squad. The squad which was maligned so much by the ignoramuses on this forum.

I know it's pre-season but just glad that attacking football is finally back to Man Utd after a decade.

His football is much better than Conte and Poch.

We will know better once the competitive matches start.

Edit: Another positive, even in pre-season game no players was jogging on the pitch.

I always said we're a bit underrated by some section of the fans on this forum, last season was crap but before then we finished second and third and when we finished third it was with a similar front four to now.
I'll like to see the work he can do with our youth players Garner, Hannibal, Laird, Iqbal, Amad, Pellistri. A big part of his job at Ajax was turning this youth players into proper pros and he achieve that with success, post SAF he'll be the second manager who can work with youth after Van gaal.

Doesn't matter that its preseason imo, ETH is so detail orientated that he wouldn't waste priceless match experience with a poorly coached team.

Crazy though isn't it, 3 weeks on the training pitch has seen more progress than the last 5 years. Precisely why the arguments of "well we have tried coaches at the top of their game and it never worked" were so frustrating... no, no we didn't.
Yes exactly right. Got early Fergie vibes when it was his way or the highway for players who couldnt adapt.

Agreed. I think he’ll have time for Axel as well. Gone are the days of running the squad into the ground playing the same underperforming eleven every match. “If you are good enough you’re old enough” has returned to Manchester United Football Club. Exciting times.

But...but... we must have Ronaldo. The goat. Pressing is just for hipsters. Where are the goals going to come from?! Something something the goat.

I love Erik. FINALLY a coach and hopefully he never plays Ronaldo for one minute even if he would stay.

How can Rashford say the players are a lot fitter now? The first team have been with him about a week or so.
Rashford and a lot of the players have been with him for nearly three weeks now.

One of Ajax supporters main criticism of him was his lack of rotation

It sounds bizarre but as of now Ronaldo really is the biggest obstacle to Hagball this season.

I’m so glad we have ETH and not Poch. Poch would’ve been an upgrade on Ole and Ralf but I wouldn’t be excited

I'll like to see a big family like squad with an almost religious like adherence to proactive football, a mix of signings and academy pros should be the vision.

We noticeably were 10 yards up the field with every attack. Fred/Mctominay were sitting on the edge of the box waiting for the ball to break, and the CB's were just behind them in case they missed it.

Compare that to previous times where the CB's would be standing on the half way line and the CM's about 10 yards ahead. If we can keep that up and not be easily countered it'll make a huge difference.

He’s certainly saying all the right things, seems to demand much more discipline than we have had the last few seasons, let’s just hope the players stick to it and don’t drop their heads when things don’t go well. Another big plus in signing players who know and trust his methods. I’m Excited for the new season, will be good to watch some attacking football with players motivated again.
