Would it spice up extra time? Almost all extra time I see is terrible football. I know both teams are tired but surely golden goal would give each team a kick up the arse?

Or does golden goal make things even more cagey?

For me, if I was a manager I'd never want to go to penalties unless I was a huge underdog.

Wait, I've lived through golden goal already, it was shit.

No. It’s absolutely horrible and just makes both teams sit back and do nothing.

Just go to pens straight after 90 minutes.

Extra time is a waste in major finals when players have had 60 + game seasons.

Golden goal is for ending 5-a-side kickabout and nothing more.

It works really well for the NHL. But in hockey it is ingrained in most teams to go for it.

I think the shootout should come before extra time. Then once you have a winner you play the extra 30 minutes - those who missed get a chance to redeem themselves, and one side has to come out and chase the game.

Well, in the playoffs there’s no shootout so the game has to end on the golden goal. Regular season it’s 3 on 3. You can’t compare NHL golden goal to football.

The managers playing russian roulette would have been a better ending than that shite.

I didn't mind Golden Goal, the idea is exciting but the reality is that both teams turn into Burnley and it was boring ..

Straight to pens is the best option.

Have the shootout at full time and then extra time after. 5 pens each. For each penalty you score, the opposition loses an outfield player.

Extra time is another full 90 minutes.

I like this apart from the 90min extra time. 30min would be enough.

After 30 min extra time, then golden goal but 9v9. After 5 mins go 7v7 and so on. Not a fan of pens.
We used to do this at college champions league. Every 4 minutes into extra time, 2 players have to come off .. at the end you always were left with a defender who kept shouting GET BACK!!! to the striker

It is more dramatic if teams are able to play out the extra time. If there were more substitutes for extra time, that would be better. And I like the 10 v 10 or fewer than 11 per side, assuming you don't have a red card, because fresher players with more pitch to roam around and exploit.

When Golden Goal was briefly used, I seem to remember teams playing for a draw and penalties in extra time even more so than they do now.
Not against bringing it back but it need changed up somehow.

Automatic golden goal when the school bell rang was the thing. You may have been twatted 5-0 during the recess but if you got the first goal after the bell you’d win.

Of course I was referring to the playoffs. Everybody hates the shootout in the regular season.

After normal time, the captains of each team select 5 players from the opposing team and proceed to have a 15 minute 5-a-side match. During these 15 minutes, only the Captain goals count.

Finally we can get the captaincy off Maguire.

Bring back replays for major finals. I'm not even joking. They would add serious drama to boot. If basketball players can play a seven games in a short period of time, why can't footballers do the same with just one extra ninety minutes plus the possibility of extra time and penalties?

No. Yes it is better than to watch 30 minutes of teams sitting back and waiting for the penalties, but once one of the teams score ET usually becomes super-interesting

No, the teams just park the buss out of fear, we've seen it the first time around .
Unless you go indefinite.

Taking a penalty is a skill that every footballer should have so no issues with me on that deciding a game if the teams cannot be separated after 120mins.
