You can see what that loan spell at West Ham has done for him confidence wise. Very bright on the ball and driving forward whenever he had the opportunity to do so. Did really well and almost scored an absolute worldie.

Rashford out a couple of months means Lingard actually has a chance to get into the team. Especially if we´re going to play 4-3-3.

e.g.

Fernandes - Matic - Pogba
Sancho - Cavani - Lingard

God help us

That was a really good appearance from him. Was looking so confident and calm on the ball, and played some beautiful passes, like the one Mejbri should have gotten more out of.

He wants to fight for his place and Ole likes him = new contract incoming.
Classic United

We’re actually going to keep him aren’t we…. Sell him now whilst his stock his high after the West Ham loan, that would be the smart thing for the club to do, but no no, we’ll give him a new contract for a few more seasons of absolutely average performances and he’ll be over 30 and worth nothing because he isn’t at United level, if nobody at the club can see that with the many seasons he has been here, not just the 1 season where he said he had problems, then we are truly clueless

He needs to go for his own sake. He is 28 and still has some good years left that he should not waste sitting on bench. For us we need to move on players who aren't in our plan and clear up wages for players who are.

Tbf he's an excellent squad option if he wants to be Bruno's backup, but for his own good he should be starting at a level below like he did last season. He won't play frequently enough at United because of Bruno but he's very good himself.

Signing for United must be so attractive money wise for new players. You can play bang average for your first 4-5 years, but still get a new deal that will blow away any offer from other clubs. United love mediocrity

This. I don't get the idiotic Lingard haters here.

He’s not good enough to start for United but he’s good enough to have a free role at somewhere like West Ham or a top 10 team.

He needs to decide what he wants but I wouldn’t be against him signing a new contract considering he stays on back-up player wages so we can sell him next summer if it doesn’t work out this year

Might be worth hanging onto him, especially in Rashford's absence. Play him off the left with Paul in a midfield three, thing those two and Shaw will play really well.

Nothing wrong with that, we could still sell him if it doesn’t work out this season. At the moment we’re better off keeping Jesse and selling VDB
We can't get 20 mil now (after he had decent season). How the hell we will get that next year after he will play 20 games max and be year older and on (i guess) on even bigger contract?

Sell him for whatever price or keep him and release him next year. But new contract would be disaster

I could see him play the odd league cup game but I really dont see how he starts above any of Bruno, Pogba, Van De Beek, Sancho, Rashford, Greenwood or James. Or hell even McTominay. He'd be about 4th choice in any position he can play and would be taking game time from Amad and other youth prospects that have some prospect of potentially being good enough to make our bench which is more than can be said of Lingard. His primary strength has been his workrate and how much he ran and he's 28. Just sell him.

The unsustainable purple patch of form when he first landed at West Ham was the best thing that could have happened in terms of allowing us to maximise the fee we get for him. This summer is the time to sell.

Personally I’m relaxed about him staying. Last time he had a spell in the first team, we had no alternative and he was synonymous with that poor spell in Ole’s first full season. Now he’s like third choice and is a damn sight better than the backups to the backups at most clubs.

In terms of his personal development, he’d be better off at another club. But if he wants to stay and increase our squad strength and go for the 1% chance of him becoming a first teamer again, that’s fine by me.

It's been 4 years since he had any consistent run of form for us but yeah why not give him another chance.

Should be moved and that would be my preference but seems he will stay and fight for his place. I suppose no one else is going to pay him £100k+ per week.

I wouldn’t take Solskjaer’s words too seriously. He’s not going to say he’s not in his plans. If we get the offer we want, he’ll go.

Really would be frustrating if Jesse ends up playing instead of Amad Diallo. He maybe a great squad option but it's time we move on these players and start introducing our younger players.

Also, keeping him is actually not as positive as people think financially. He'll play less leading to he's worth decreasing. Now is time to sell, otherwise it'll be never.

When Diallo is a better option than Lingard then it makes sense... currently Lingard is a much better squad player to have than Amad.

Not that it matters much but he's on a basic of around £75k a week,

I kinda agree, but fear just little spell of his old self for United will be enough for him to lose all confidence and turn into a pointless player again. But really bright today.

I'd take my chances on Amad over Jesse in more games this upcoming season, he brings a different style.

Realistically having Jesse and Dan James is pretty much the same player, who play better counting attacking football than against teams with two banks of four defending. So for me it's either one of them who needs to leave. Jesse can fetch more money after his stint at WH. It's time to get rid.

I think rather than Lingard vs Diallo - it matters more about what happens to Van de Beek.

Their intelligent runs, ability to score a goal and versatility are useful; but we cant keep them both and give them game time.

Unless we can get a decent fee then I would rather keep him.
Agree. Selling him below value would be utterly pointless and ,frankly, dumb.

If we cant get a decent fee over 10 million then you'd rather have someone like this on the bench who can score and create.
