It's been awhile since I've been excited about a Europa League match, but any European semi-final should get the butterflies going!

7-2 would do lovely thank you.

    So close

    Hoping to see:

    Henderson
    AWB - Lindelof - Maguire - Shaw
    Fred - Pogba
    Greenwood - Bruno - Rashford
    Cavani

But I imagine McTominay will play next to Fred with Pogba pushed further forward in place of Greenwood.

Think that is most likely but it could well be Cavani rather than Greenwood on the bench as we always seem to be very careful with managing his minutes. I would love to leave McT on the bench though, he is a good player and great for the squad but we need to go for the jugular at home, no problem with the McFred tandem for the away leg but here we should be bold.

It's funny how Ole must be one of the nicest managers ever and yet he still manages to irk others. Can't win.
It's that constant smirk. It almost feels deranged. : )
    Chaotic evil

How the heck did ESPN manage to get such a long interview with the Roma manager

It's more insightful than any press conference, they're basically discussing tactics on how to stop us tomorrow

When ever i see Roma playing the first person comes to my mind is Alan Smith.

    https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...a-fans-poster-manchester-united-europa-league

Ole Gunnar Solskjær has admitted comments he made about Roma may have sounded disrespectful to Manchester United’s Europa League semi-final opponents, but said that was never his intention.
United host Roma in Thursday’s opening leg hoping to reach a first final in five attempts under Solskjær.

The manager was asked about the Italian club after knocking out Granada in the previous round and is believed by Roma fans to have said: “I don’t know them and I haven’t seen them play.”
Roma supporters have placed a poster featuring those words and Solskjær’s image at their club’s training ground, together with the message: “Make sure he remembers us.”

Solskjær said on Wednesday of his remarks: “That was straight after the game and with all the games we’ve had I was just relieved we’d gone through. I’d watched them but hadn’t analysed and hadn’t seen them in depth to give them enough respect, probably. It’s a fantastic club with a great history.

So it's a quote from straight after the Granada 2nd leg.

Not a big deal really. I'm sure he's since watched/analysed them a lot since.

    Chris Mike Smalling.

'I’m feeling fit and ready to contribute. I don't think there could be many bigger games to play in."

"I think there are very few clubs around the world that have a fanbase capable of that [send-off], so we know the importance of tomorrow and bringing back a positive result to Rome so we have something to go for in the second leg."

Anyone else quite excited for this?

It's just the Europa, which admittedly isn't where a club like United should be.

I just think a first trophy for Solskjaer would be huge and lift us to bigger things.
Have to admit that seeing City plant one foot into the European final has put a damper on things.

Although I don't want city to win the champions league it is inevitable. Pointless letting it stop us enjoying our runs in the europa league. Hope we get a good result tonight to take the pressure off next week.

Our run to the europa league win is my favourite post fergie memory so hoping we can repeat it this season.

Looking forward to this... a couple of days of that tinpot Champions League to wet the appetite in time for tonights main event in Europe's premiere European Football Competition.

    We'll either win comfortably or it'll be a 1-1 / 0-0.

Tonight's line-ups according to La Gazzetta dello Sport

    immagine-2021-04-29-113034.png

    Suspended: Roma CB Mancini
Risk of suspension: no one (given it's a semifinal)
Not available: Martial, Jones; Zaniolo, Calafiori, El Shaarawy, Pedro

Why do everyone have Henderson in their XI? Surely De Gea is locked for this one, or have I missed something?

They are probably bang on the money for us, expect Shaw is not no 26:wenger:

These Roma fans are delicate little flowers mind..

Of course we remember a club we battered 7-1 in a Champions League quarter-final

Same actually. I thought when I wrote that that PSG would get a good result

Can only hope it pisses United off enough to go out there tonight to prove that Europa is below our level and we should be in the Champions League

You go with your 1st choice in a European semi-final surely?

De Gea played last year against Sevilla despite Romero playing in the quarters against Copenhagen.
Who is first choice though? I don’t think that has been answered definitively.

Ole has actually been quite clever, initially henderson was the cup keeper (so normally perceived as the number 2), but then De Gea had that time off and they have switched, but you could easily argue that the cup games we have been in since have been of greater importance. So it’s actually hard to say who the number 1 is.

Really looking forward to this! It might be the EL, but it's still a European semi-final. Hoping we get a two goal margin, or perhaps a 1-0 to bring to Rome.

I suppose we might find out tonight!

If he goes with Henderson he’s definitely no.1 but if he goes with De Gea I guess we’re still in this goalkeeping purgatory.

Think an easy win tonight. These are in horrendous form and were lucky against Ajax too.

The teams I thought could be potentially tough games for us have been knocked out by others, which detracts from the spectacle but has all but ensured we'll win this cup.

Form goes out the window in cup semi.

Mind you if they’d seen us against Leeds they might be thinking that we’re not much

    De Gea will 100% play.

Funny really, Henderson has been installed as our number one premier league goalkeeper, at the expense of potentially not playing in a cup final.

Form goes out the window in cup semi.
More importantly, when was the last time we had an actual easy win? I think we'd have to go back to the first leg against Real Sociedad. Our wins are usually hard-fought, close games.

Do Roma have other first team players besides Mancini back for the second leg? I'm thinking if they do they could play extremely cautiously tonight and go for it in the second leg, although they almost certainly will play pretty defensively tonight anyway.

I still think we'll have way too much for them tonight. I think we'll win by a couple but, even with our away form, I'd be nervous if we only manage a draw and had to go to their place to win. Semi final nerves might kick in.

Pogba and Cavani need to be starting this or I wouldn’t blame them for walking this summer!

big game we need to win to take a comfortable lead to Roma!

I've not looked forward to a game so much in ages, I hope its a cracker!

Mason, Cavani, Rashford & Pogba to start please.

Pogba can still have an effect in the attacking 3rd if he plays in a 2 man midfield.

Why wouldn’t Pogba be playing today?
