Solskjaer's contract

My worry is that a series of 'just in time' results will protract his stay and that we'll go on with football that in some ways is improved but rarely head and shoulders over what we've seen post-Ferguson and runs of form that we're still currently in that but that he'll pull the occasional win out of the bag unexpectedly which'll be used as a stay of execution on a perpetual basis. Our last 6 league games being disappointing but "Oh we've just beat City, let's give him a few more games" - which are followed by more results not good enough but "Oh we've just been X...." and "Oh we've just got a result against Y" constantly being used as reasons to carry on.

Surely it isn't satisfactory if the only way any manager loses his job here is if we finish the season 5th or below. We owe ourselves a higher standard than that, don't we?
Thankfully, the club is capable of looking beyond the last half a dozen games before making a decision on whether to fire the manager or not. fecking incredible.

Gotta do it ASAP. We can't risk the likes of Barca, Real, PSG, Juve offering him £15m/year and stealing him from us. What would we do then? Look for a new manager? Unthinkable. Not worth the risk.
None of those play counter attack football.

Hilarious. Very original.

However even I agree the timing makes little sense. Wait to May and then assess it. If we fell apart and dropped out of the top 4 after giving him a new deal it would be yet another disaster class from Woodward and co.

I hope nothing is signed until after the season and that it is still based on him getting top 4 minimum.

I'm resided to the fact he will stay on if this is met and although I don't agree, it is what it is and many will be happy with it.

Just pray we get the players we need this summer otherwise this is our ceiling for the considerable future.

You're not happy with it but then pray that he gets the players he needs? Can't you see the hypocrisy there man?

So you don't think he has the players he needs right now but still want him out? How does that work?

This is where I lose my rag with Ole outers. They definitely know he's not got the team really and let it slip out like you have yet moan he's 2nd and not 1st or closer to 1st.

You clearly don't have a clue what's been going on at the club these past two years.....

Our cub has improved at least 10-fold since Ole has come in...

He has done a staggering job managing our football club. He has woken Ed Woodward up... The club is taking a totally differently direction to the one we were taking before Ole came in with his long-term plan.

I genuinely feel sorry for anybody who claims to be a Manchester United "fan" who can't see what Ole is doing. They chose the wrong club to support.

Only on RedCafe can you be called a "troll" for supporting the manager at your football club. It's fecking pathetic.

 incredible is a stretch, 20% payrise for doing very little is incredible.

Ole as done a decent job, but he's not been much better than LvG or Mou.

Biggest fecking palm face of the year goes to this post...

You - clearly - have NO CLUE what's been going on at our football club these past two years if you think what Ole is doing goes anywhere near to mirroring the horrible Galactico approach of LvG/Joe. Pathetic 'fan'. Plastic. A virtual fan is what I call the likes of you. Your 'support' is insignificant.

I think the club (Ed) truly believes Ole is the man to consistently get us into CL and so far it looks likely we could do it 2 years in a row which I am not sure we have done with any manager post SAF? We are quite clearly not a CL club anymore and us crashing out of groups confirms that but the fact that we even get into group stages would delight Ed I am sure as it's extra money. I am surprised we still haven't agreed on extension yet to be honest, I thought we would do it when we were top of the league as it seemed to be a perfect timing for Ed. I think they want to avoid the situation where they would be pressured to sack him if we finished 5th and he still didn't have contract extended.

Genuine question, what changes has Ole been responsible for?

March 2021 ole gets 3 year deal. Dec 2021 ole gets sacked after 9 months of bad results

Staggering job  He has done alright but staggering job? Really? What are you smoking?

Solskjaer > Pep am I right?

Are you for real?

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has turned our club right around from being an absolute Galactico mess.

Since Ole has come in full-time in the last 2 years, we have signed ELEVEN of the best teenagers in world football. We are the envy of world football with what we have been doing. We've snapped up the best player from Real Madrid's academy, best player from Barcelona's academy, best player from Man CIty's academy, best players from south America, from Italy...

Eleven top-quality teenagers.

Amad Diallo

Matej Kovar
Marc Jurado
Willy Kambwala

Alvaro Fernandez
Isak
Hansen-Aaroen

Hannibal Mejbri

Charlie McNeill

Joe Hugill

Shola Shoretire
Facundo Pellistri

W'eve actually snapped one of these up - on average - every two months since Ole has come in. And I hear there are two more hot prospects on their way before May.

But of course, a huge number of "supporters" on here wouldn't know that, because they're only interested in the immediate. They have no patience for the future. They would have sacked Matt Busby in 1948 and they would have sacked Sir Alex in 1988. They can't think about the future. It doesn't register in their narrow minds.

Under LvG and Jose we were all about the NOW! Now we are all about the future.. the way our football club should be run.

Ole has totally turned our whole football club around.

I can not fathom how those claiming to be Manchester United fans don't understand that. It's as if they don't know anything about the club they supposedly claim to support.

As Sir Alex Ferguson often says, "when you become Manchester United manager, you are managing a football club, not just a football team".

There is a mammoth difference in those two things. Most fans on here don't understand that. They can't make sense of that. It's pathetic. Imagine not understanding the club you chose to support? Laughable.

The new contract thing isn't a surprise, but I can't back making it public or doing it before the season is over, it just seems like a typically odd decision.

If you don't get him signed up ASAP then you can see Bayern, Real or maybe Barcelona coming in for him...

Really can't wait for this Solskjaer experiment to be over. He's quite clearly not a shit coach and he's done ok but imagine what could happen with a capable coach in charge. Please don't reference Van Gaal and Mourinho in response, both who were past it.

LVG and Mourinho weren't "past it". They joined a poorly ran club. LVG obviously couldn't handle both coaching and doing the transfer business himself, judging by his poor recruitment. Did we have a DoF, like he's had at every previous club he won the CL with? Did Utd do their homework on him, or they did just look at his results and think "that's our man"? He had just taken the worst Holland squad of all time to a 3rd place WC finish prior to joining. So much for "past it". Mourinho's been the most successful manager in the post SAF era.

Seeing world class managers fail at Utd at then drawing the conclusion the class managers were "past it" instead of the club being poorly run, is wishful thinking. It's easy to scapegoat people who aren't at the club anymore and it gives the false sense of hope that if we just find the golden goose we'll be top of the league again.

Personally, I'm happy with some of the changes that are being made around the club. I certainly want to give Ole another year if he makes top 4. Someone on here said we should just give him a year, because no one else will take him. I think that's very sensible.

These jokes are so funny, the great thing is, you can see them posted ten times on the same page, and each time it feels like my sides are going to split, its just so witty.

This. People act like even the great Jürgen Klopp came in and won everything with Liverpool on his first day, almost like he's the messiah. It took him what? 3-4 years to even challenge?
Klopp had Liverpool in a CL final after his 2nd full year. Won it after his 3rd and won the league after his 4th after pushing City all the way the previous season. Can you really see Ole accomplishing anywhere near the same? If the answer is no then why give him a long term contract?

Everyone saying “wait until the end of the season until we judge him” why don’t you take a leaf out of your own book and not call for him to be sacked every win, loss or draw. Hypocrites.
This might just be my favourite post of this week.

I bet guys posting this 'joke' couldn't even tell you the name of the current Bayern Munich manager...

It's almost as if they've looked at the bigger picture, seen and heard good things about the major changes Ole has made to backroom, youth set up, recruitment philosophy etc and decided they'd like to reward that rather than be overly influenced by short term ups and downs.

Sadly, the average fan these days lives in a timeframe spanning about 3 weeks.

You genuinely speak and sound like a Trump-supporter standing outside Congress with an assault rifle in your hands. «Everyone else are idiots, everyone are wrong, how can they not understand the only truth»? Grow up, respect other people and tone down your rethorics, unless you want to be portrayed as something between a fool and a wind-up merchant.

Well that's an interesting metric by which to judge a manager's success: number of teenagers signed. Do we get a trophy for it?

Not to mention the fact that it's unclear how many of these signings were directly down to Ole anyway.

I'm very happy we're signing these young players, but I remain suspicious that it's part of a new cheapo Glazer transfer model - speculate on relatively cheap teenagers rather than seriously invest in proven elite players.

If all these talented teenagers are going to win us trophies (remember trophies?), then they're either going to have to be carefully integrated into a team of elite experienced players, or they're going to have to be coached at world class levels. I've so far not seen any evidence that this is going to happen. I guess we're going to find out in the next 3 seasons.

All this and he's a still a newbie. Wait till he becomes a full member. My God.

Absolutely idiotic from the club if we do this even a day earlier than the end of the season.

Stop baiting that guy to spend his posts per day limit ( is that how it works for newbies?)

I’m not suggesting I want Ole to go, but I think everyone can see the progress made with the youth team. Ole is the manager however, and will be judged on how the first team is playing.

It's all shaping up that Ole won't get the players he needs anyway. Ed has already put an extra layer of protection around himself so if transfers inevitably go tits up the blame falls on someones else's head. Coupled with the fact he's surrounded himself with people who won't dare say a bad word against the club he's just added an extra layer. Pretty genius really.

If this club had ambitions we'd be going the Naaglesman route but Ed knowing if we do this Naaglesman will be asking for players to win us titles and stirring things up he's more than happy to settle for mediocrity by giving Ole a long term contract. And yet people are willing to except this which is pretty sad really.

Seriously, answer my question. Solskjaer or Pep?

You never asked me that question, mate, At no point did you ask me that question.

But I'll answer it...

For the same reason Fergie went with Moyes over Pep, or Jose, or Klopp.

And I've said this a hundred times on here.

We should NEVER hire a manager who only stays 3-4 years at a club. Pep told Fergie he would only stay 3 years, that is why he was never hired. Yes, Woodward would have loved to hire Pep in 2015 when he was being a desperate fecking eejit, but now Woodward has seen the light and won't be doing that again.

I support Manchester United because we evolved players from our academies into the first team whilst winning major trophies. That's the ONLY way we've ever won major trophies in our entire 140-year history.

Give me long-term planning forever over buying up major stars and placing them within our first team. That wouldn't mean anything to me, doing things the way Pep/Jose/Klopp do it. That's the reason Fergie didn't hire them to follow him. It was too short-termism.

We are Manchester United. The Busby Babes. Fergie's Fledglings. We plan long-term. We recruit from within.

Ole is starting from the bottom line and has recruited eleven of the best young talents in the world. Give me that over signing "world class" ready made stars just to fit in every day of the week for the rest of my life. All true Manchester United fans would say the same thing.

Pep or Ole, you ask...

If Pep was our manager today, he'd be gone in 3-4 years. And then we\d have to start ALL OVER AGAIN.

Ole is gonna be here for way, way, WAY beyond that. Fluidly.

It is not a question. Ole. Always.

Maybe by idiot fans. But clearly not by the club or by fans who see bigger pictures.
