Bailly our new pacey Vidic?

Did you just mention Blind and Rojo?

Caf think Blind and Rojo are shite and shld have been sold long ago.
No one with any decent brain cells think Blind should be sold.

I was not really that impressed with him tonight. The main thing for me is how well will he play alongside Smalling and how those two will work together, because i don't really in any CB partnership that has Blind in it. I mean blind can deputize and cover at CB, sure, but as a main pairing in PL i think we need something else.

He obviously has loads of potential, but lets not go overboard here. He got skinned badly at the start of the game, did some stupid challenges and gave away a dangerous foul when on a yellow.

Still, he had a really good game

Many positives but he's no Vidic. But to be fair, Vidic struggled early in his United career too.

Maybe I'm just getting old but I'm finding it harder and harder to get giddy about players we sign who have loads of potential.

As Brwned said, there's a rash element to his game and he makes various little mistakes. While he could turn into a new Rio or Vida, he could also have much shallower learning arc like Phil Jones and struggle to iron out his faults. One seasons hope is another seasons scape goat.

Don't think you're alone there. I can't buy into any hype about young players these days until they either do something genuinely spectacular (Martial vs Liverpool) or at least perform well for a full season.

Guess it's just after realising 95% of 'hot prospects' end up being mediocre.

Far too early yet to be making such comparisons. Looks rash so far which will cost us a few goals I think.

I was more thinking a smaller and faster Stam. The way he tries to dominate a player to win ball reminded me of Jaap.

His performance was terrific in my opinion. He just needs to work on his positioning and decision making but that of course will come with experience. I think that a more experienced and composed partner for him at CB is a must. If Blind was a bit better physically he would be the perfect partner for him... He would thrive in a partnership with Rio for example...They would be a formidable pair...

Yes and Januzaj was our new Ronaldo. These threads and comparisons are laughable so early.

I think he will be a good player for us, but I'm just not really seeing the Vidic comparison at all.

Yeah, I can´t but help feel there´s a sort of Darmian delirium about him. A bandwagonesque wankfest during preseason for, a least in the case of Darmian, a clearly mediocre player. If Blind, or especially Rojo and Valencia, had been skinned so embarrassingly by Vardy twice in the first 20 minutes, posters here would´ve been sharpening their daggers with bulging cartoon eyes, with an ensuing shitstorm. If Vardy had scored on one of or both those opportunities, opinions would be much much different.

I was also surprised that nearly everyone had Bailly penciled in as a starter over Blind before the season even started. Smalling and the underrated Blind had formed the best defence pairing last year in the PL, and that with a revolving door of about ten different fullbacks. Not to say though, that I´m comparing him too much to Darmian. Bailly clearly has donkey loads more potential and talent. But this anti Blind thang makes him appear to be better, just like the anti Valencia crap made Darmian look ten feet tall to the footy geniuses.

But it is laughable the adulation and how many are turning a blind eye (ha ha) to many of his careless errors. Maybe cause it´s the flashiness thing and swag about him which I think goes a long way in becoming a fan fav.

He was absolutely fantastic today. Bags of potential. While he is still a bit raw, it's hard to believe he has only recently turned 22! He could be competing for a place at centre-back in the team of the year in 2 or 3 years. He's got it all. Strength, pace, composure, bravery, the list goes on. I expect him to grab a first team place alongside Smalling for this season.

Spot on.

By some he was tertific, by others he was skinned twice by Vardy and made a lot of silly mistakes. Whats the truth?

Can't remember him getting skinned but, from where I was sitting had himself a monster game. Really wish I could remember the exact words were but, there was a brilliant impromptu song by the regular United match goers - something about Baily having a party with Jamie Vardy.

In the second half I remember him barging into a Leicester player and from a distance it looked like he went with his shoulder but, got called for a foul. It wasn't necessary but, also in a way glad because he is ready for the rough and tumble along with the pace of the league I think.

I'd still go with Smalling and Blind as first choice pairing for a few months and gradually bring Bailly through but he looks potentially very good from what I've seen in the last few weeks.

We saw last season that Smalling and Blind were one of the best centre back pairings in the league last season and complement each other very well so why break up one of the very few positives of last season when Bailly needs to settle in and gradually grow into the team.

Physically he's incredible and that is fantastic, too early to say how good he is at reading the game and positioning and whatnot but seems decent so far. Also seems decent on the ball, so definitely an exciting prospect

The way he jumps reminds me of Michael Jordan....Wow!!!

Apart from that bags of potential but a bit raw and rash.

it's just really nice to see a young guy looking genuinely so happy, I bet he's buzzing tonight.

Jose knows a quality CB when he sees one. This kid looks the real deal -- raw, but a lot of potential. Very comfortable on the ball, great at tackling, and just the basics of defending.

He reminded me of Eric Djemba-Djemba making his clumsy over-enthusiastic Charity Shield debut,

 TBF on Eric for every clumsy challenge he did there was also a last-ditch tackle (remember first half him being the last man and tackling Vardy really cleanly at high speed) or interception that came off really well. And he generally knew when to push forward, when to run at someone etc. quite well.

Vardy got past him once fortunately when Bailly won tackle but ball ricocheted in Vardy's favour and he went through.
For the booking the barge in the back was needless - Vardy was going nowhere and Bailly just had a brain fart and pushed him in the back, almost as if Vardy was just pissing him off making him work. I think he will do those rash things. The challenge on Gray was heart in the mouth. On a booking and just recklessly jumped into him. League game he'd have been sent off. Rest of him game was very promising/excellent. MOM for me.

I wish posters would stop with this all knowing Jose stuff. He signed Boulahrouz who was unbelievably bad. I remember being shocked when he signed Tel Ban Haim. WTF? And just last year Cuadrado and Pedro turned out to be slugs, although interesting enough, Cuadrado returned to form with Juve. Shevchenko? Steve Sidwell, ffs. Del Horno? Paulo Ferreira? ¿Bosingwa? This is just with Chelsea.

He also was on his way to relegating a champion Chelsea side last year.

Obviously his successful club record speaks for itself, but he is far from infallible, especially with signings.

It wasn't intended as an attempt at clairvoyance, let alone omnipotence. It was more of a general comment relating to his success rate at building teams with a solid central defensive core. Yes, he has had his flops. But, as he's won far more than he's lost, and as much of that success pertained to the readily identifiable defensive prowess of his teams, then I think I can be reasonable when I form the opinion that as a manger Mourinho is somewhat skilled in the art of identifying good centre backs capable of matching his high demands in order to be successful.

We must remember that a big part of Vidic was the fact Rio would clean up behind him and they formed an instinctive understanding of each other. The key for Bailly will be a partnership which allows him to take the odd risk and come and meet the ball knowing his partner has got his back.

It was´t so much you I was directing the comment to, sorry if it came out that way. I´ve read so much now on how incredible Jose is at identifying everything, now that he´s here.
