I'm going to compare him to Paul McGrath. I know you'll remember him being a golden oldie.Yeah but he's the new Stam.
You shouldn't have started a thread about it thenOh common mate don't point out solid facts... Now you got me questioning my excitement...
Maybe I'm just getting old but I'm finding it harder and harder to get giddy about players we sign who have loads of potential.
As Brwned said, there's a rash element to his game and he makes various little mistakes. While he could turn into a new Rio or Vida, he could also have much shallower learning arc like Phil Jones and struggle to iron out his faults. One seasons hope is another seasons scape goat.
Blind is fine. Rojo, not so much.Did you just mention Blind and Rojo?

Spot on.Yeah, I can´t but help feel there´s a sort of Darmian delirium about him. A bandwagonesque wankfest during preseason for, a least in the case of Darmian, a clearly mediocre player. If Blind, or especially Rojo and Valencia, had been skinned so embarrassingly by Vardy twice in the first 20 minutes, posters here would´ve been sharpening their daggers with bulging cartoon eyes, with an ensuing shitstorm. If Vardy had scored on one of or both those opportunities, opinions would be much much different.
I was also surprised that nearly everyone had Bailly penciled in as a starter over Blind before the season even started. Smalling and the underrated Blind had formed the best defence pairing last year in the PL, and that with a revolving door of about ten different fullbacks. Not to say though, that I´m comparing him too much to Darmian. Bailly clearly has donkey loads more potential and talent. But this anti Blind thang makes him appear to be better, just like the anti Valencia crap made Darmian look ten feet tall to the footy geniuses.
But it is laughable the adulation and how many are turning a blind eye (ha ha) to many of his careless errors. Maybe cause it´s the flashiness thing and swag about him which I think goes a long way in becoming a fan fav.

I like the cut of his jib.
By some he was tertific, by others he was skinned twice by Vardy and made a lot of silly mistakes. Whats the truth?
He reminded me of Eric Djemba-Djemba making his clumsy over-enthusiastic Charity Shield debut,

Jose knows a quality CB when he sees one. This kid looks the real deal -- raw, but a lot of potential. Very comfortable on the ball, great at tackling, and just the basics of defending.
It wasn't intended as an attempt at clairvoyance, let alone omnipotence. It was more of a general comment relating to his success rate at building teams with a solid central defensive core. Yes, he has had his flops. But, as he's won far more than he's lost, and as much of that success pertained to the readily identifiable defensive prowess of his teams, then I think I can be reasonable when I form the opinion that as a manger Mourinho is somewhat skilled in the art of identifying good centre backs capable of matching his high demands in order to be successful.I wish posters would stop with this all knowing Jose stuff. He signed Boulahrouz who was unbelievably bad. I remember being shocked when he signed Tel Ban Haim. WTF? And just last year Cuadrado and Pedro turned out to be slugs, although interesting enough, Cuadrado returned to form with Juve. Shevchenko? Steve Sidwell, ffs. Del Horno? Paulo Ferreira? ¿Bosingwa? This is just with Chelsea.
He also was on his way to relegating a champion Chelsea side last year.
Obviously his successful club record speaks for itself, but he is far from infallible, especially with signings.
