Paris Saint-Germain Football Club, commonly referred to as PSG, is a French professional association football club based in Paris, whose first team play in the highest tier of French football, the Ligue 1. The team was formed in 1970 by the merger of Paris FC and Stade Saint-Germain.

Having clinched 30 titles in its history, PSG is the most successful club in French football and one of only two French clubs (with Olympique de Marseille) to win a major European club competition.

The Parc des Princes has been the home stadium of PSG since 1974. The Camp des Loges has served as the club's training centre since 1970. The Tournoi de Paris has been hosted by the capital club at Le Parc since 1975. PSG shares an intense rivalry with Marseille and contest the most notorious football match in France, known as Le Classique. PSG is the second-highest supported football club in France after rivals Marseille. Qatar Sports Investments became the club's sole shareholder in 2012. The takeover made PSG the richest club in France and amongst the richest in the world.

PRESIDENT

Nasser AL KHELAIFI, Chairman and CEO, & Jean-Claude Blanc, Deputy CEO (since November 2011)

THE COACH - UNAI EMERY - Since July 2016

After a playing career that included stints with Real Sociedad, Tolède, Ferrol and Leganes, Unai Emery began his coaching career with Lorca Deportiva, in the Segunda Division B - Spain's third division. His time there was punctuated by promotion to the second division (a first in the club's history), a result that surprised everyone before the same side narrowly missed out on promotion to La Liga the following season. The Basque then confirmed his promise with Almeria, also in the second division, taking them into the country's top flight and securing an eighth-place finish the following season. After four promising campaigns as a coach, Emery took the reins at Valencia CF, and remained in the ascendancy. His side qualified for the UEFA Europa League in his first season in charge and then the UEFA Champions League over the next three seasons - and at the same time securing successive third-placed finishes in La Liga behind the mighty Real Madrid and Barcelona. After a brief stint outside Spain, with Spartak Moscow, Emery returned to Spain and set about gaining what he had lacked before: trophies. With Sevilla FC, he became the first-ever coach to win the UEFA Europa League three seasons in a row! Thus it was with quite a reputation that he moved to France and Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2016.

Official | Unai Emery appointed PSG manager

PSG have announced the appointment of Unai Emery has their new manager, following the departure of Laurent Blanc.

Emery joins from Sevilla on a two year contract and is expected to be joined by a Sporting Director, possibly Luis Campos.

Giovani Lo Celso will join PSG

After arriving in Paris, Argentinian attacker Giovani Lo Celso will become PSG’s first summer signing.

The 20 year old is of dual Argentinian and Italian nationality and therefore does not count as a non-EU player. It is planned that he will leave Paris tomorrow to return to Rosario Central where he will remain until the end of the calendar year before coming back to Paris and Ligue 1.

The transfer fee is worth slightly shy of €10m. He has chosen PSG over a host of other interested parties because Angel di Maria is his childhood idol.

PSG in advanced talks with Vincent Janssen

According to L’Équipe, PSG have decided to pursue AZ striker Vincent Janssen in a major way.

Les Parisiens have opened talks with the Dutch side over a fee agreement, hoping to reach a deal at about €15m.

That is the fee that has been mooted also when Tottenham Hotspur were reportedly interested in the player. By signing Janssen, PSG would have a clear second option to Edinson Cavani.

Les Parisiens remain very interested in Alexandre Lacazette.

PSG continue talks for Alexandre Lacazette & Vincent Janssen

PSG are continuing their talks to sign Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette and AZ attacker Vincent Janssen, but have yet to submit formal offers, according to L’Équipe.

Les Parisiens realise that the next few days will be crucial in the transfer window, with Tottenham Hotspur expected to pounce for Vincent Janssen after embarrassingly missing out on Michy Batshuayi last night.

PSG could therefore submit formal bids for both Lacazette and Janssen in the coming hours.

Laurent Blanc’s agent reacts to England job rumours

Recently departed from PSG manager Laurent Blanc’s agent Jean Pierre Bernès has spoken to Europe 1 about claims that his client could be interested in taking over as the next manager of the England national team.

Bernès had the following to say:

“Laurent Blanc at the head of the English national team? We have not at all thought about that. For the moment, he is on holiday. We will see for his future. We are not going to do something completely random, we have never done things like that. We will see what presents itself. We are not going to take work for the sake of working.”

PSG will allow Blaise Matuidi to go to the Premier League

PSG will allow Blaise Matuidi to move to the Premier League this summer should a considerable offer be made, according to L’Équipe.

The French international box-to-box midfielder has held a long-term dream of one day playing in the Premier League and Unai Emery is not understood to see the central midfielder as a crucial part of his plans for Les Parisiens.

How would you expect the team to line up next season?

Trapp
Aurier - T. Silva - Marquinhos/Luiz - Maxwell
Krychowiak
Verratti - Pastore(?)
Di Maria - Cavani - Ben Arfa

@DWelbz19

I understand that the new coach

- is an adept of the turnover.
- seems to be prefer a 4-2-1-3 system with a #10/support striker
- a hard-working coach who likes to change his tactical system like Guardiola

Let's say we have now the complete opposite of Laurent Blanc

You are proximate to Truth. Some comments:

- GK: Areola will come back from his loan in Spain. Expected battle between him & Trapp
- LB: Kurzawa (22y) will certainly take the lead. So, I expect Maxwell (34y) to be on the bench for the decisive games
- AM: Ben Arfa was told he was acquired because of his versatility: capacity to play on the left, on the right and as a central playmaker.
- Lucas Moura: curious to see if he can improve with him
- Unai Emery don't seem to be a big fan of Matuidi

The club is still looking for

- a striker given the departure of who you know :)
- a #10: James Rodriguez?

Do you think the striker will be a first choice level though? Apart from Lacazette, I've only seen links to players like Vincent Janssen which would suggest a bench role. James would be interesting.

I don't particularly like PSG but I love watching them just for Verratti and Pastore. They work so well together when Pastore drops deep to dictate play. Actually, thinking about it, Pastore just might be my favourite none United player in the world at the moment.

Oh, and congratulations on retaining your title for a 4th consecutive year, Downcast! I look forward to the 2017/18 title race.

Krychowiak today in Paris with his wife

Ben Arfa is surely every hard working managers worst nightmare.

I agree with you but I have read many interviews of Unai Emery who seems to be a smart coach with excellent management skills.

The type of persons who claims to read books like Emotional Intelligence - Daniel Goleman

I hope Pastore is trusted, instead of buying someone like James.

Pastore is a prone-injury player. I'm one of his fans but I don't know how he will play next year.

You're a man of taste. Without Zlatan, Javier Pastore will feel more at ease as Zlatan used to operate sometimes as a 'false 9'.

The 2017/18 title race could be exciting because some big clubs like Marseille will change their ownerships.

I hate PSG these cnuts stoled half of the MAHB roster.

Excellent signing in Krychowiak. A team like Real Madrid could really do with him.

Anybody else never seen the hype in Pastore? James would be a massive upgrade from him.

PSG have announced the signing of French international winger Hatem Ben Arfa from OGC Nice on a two year deal for free. Ben Arfa spent one season with Les Aiglons in an incredible career turnaround that has seen him to return to Champions League football after a horrendous time in England with Newcastle and Hull.

PSG are nearing the signing of Club Brugge right-back Thomas Meunier (24 year old)

Official | Grzegorz Krychowiak completes PSG move | €30m

Sevilla, PSG and now the player himself, Grzegorz Krychowiak, have announced a deal for the defensive midfielder to join the Ligue 1 champions this morning.

The Spanish outfit announce that the deal is worth €30m excluding potential bonuses and add-ons, €15m less than the player’s reported release clause.

Krychowiak joins up with his previous manager Unai Emery and has signed a five year contract with PSG.

Ligue 1 welcomes Krychowiak back, having left Reims for Sevilla in the first place for just €3.5m.

They probably target Kanté & Pogba.

Anybody else never seen the hype in Pastore? James would be a massive upgrade from him.

In the last 3 years, Pastore was mainly a 'super sub' because of his inconsistent performances & injuries. TBF He is not very reliable.

I remember his last season for Palermo iirc in Serie A, he was enchanting to watch really, Kaka-esque I'd say. Hoped we'd sign him but oh well. Not sure if he ever was as good in PSG.

Whats going to happen with Matuidi, wouldn't mind him here

Maybe 50 good games in 5 years

Everything is possible with his agent Mino Raiola (Zlatan, Pogba,..)

What do you think the starting lineup will look like? Also, do you think Lucas will finally start to prosper under the new manager?

Lucas will improve with the new coach but the competition will be tough. Laurent Blanc was very predictable but I deeply nobody knows the plans of Emery

GK: Trapp

LB: Kurzawa
CBs: Thiago Silva + Marquinhos
RB: Aurier

CM: Krychowiak + Verratti
AM: Ben Arfa (Pastore)

LW: Lucas Moura (Ben Arfa, Pastore)
CF: Cavani
RW: Di Maria

But there are a lot of options: GK (Areola), LB (Maxwell), RB (Meunier), CB (David Luiz, KImpembe), CM (Matuidi, Rabiot, Lo Celso, Stambouli)...

@BBRBB What do you think?

Any chance of signing Benzema if Lewandowski goes to Real? Although I honestly can't see Bayern selling him.

It's a very long shot at the moment, Benzema is good enough but his reputation is not the best in France at the moment. He should not be available anyway. James seems the most likely Galactico from Real to come.

@Downcast Yes I expect a 4231 like this to be the main system, but keeping the option of 433 and 442 for variation. 1 more striker and maybe an AM/winger will be needed for playing 4231 the whole season. If we don't recruit another AM our roster will be more fit for a 433.

Yeah he seems to be a Guardiola 2.0

Get Ibrahimovic off that OP. Blasphemy!

I will update this soon :)

Benzema is extremely happy in Madrid with his GodFather Zidane. He will leave Madrid only he has no choice. And if he leaves Spain, he will never join a French club imho.

They must be gutted that Zlatan has gone. They will only win the league by 25 points now.

Has Rabiot's mom complained to the media about his playing time yet? It is not a transfer window until that happens.

I don't think James and Pastore are similar players at all. Yes, they both like to play as #10s but Pastore is more of a playmaker in that role ala Silva,Ozil,Iniesta,di Maria, etc while James is more of a forward/2nd striker ala Mata,Rooney,Griezmann,Barkley,Milik, etc.

I can see why PSG would prefer James considering not only Pastore's injury problems, but already having di Maria and Verratti playmaking, but I'd always prefer Pastore. In my opinion, Pastore's up there with the best in his position when he gets a consistent run whereas I feel James flatters to decieve the majority of the time.

Are they after a back up striker?

Krychowiak is a class signing. Him next to Verratti will be great.

shes delightful

The idea was probably to replace Rose Bertram - Miss Van Der Wiel!

Krychowiak is a class signing. Him next to Verratti will be great.

Given his age, Thiago Motta is unfortunately declining. The debate - amongst PSG fans - is the quality of his offensive contribution. Modern world-class defensive players (Busquets, Xabi Alonso, Alcantara, Pirlo, Motta at his prime..) have playmaking skills. If you play against PSG and succeeds in blocking Verratti, 40% of your job is done.

In any case, I agree that he is a good acquisition to strengthen the midfield.
