Looking over my shoulder.
Since there are currently no games, and I'm a little bored, I thought it would be interesting to hear who you think is our fastest ever player. Don't talk about players you've never seen and don't discuss fringe players like Bellion either. They must have been starting XI quality.

So:
Fastest without the ball:
Fastest with the ball:
Fastest with great agility and skill:

Fastest without the ball: Antonio Valencia
Fastest with the ball: Cristiano Ronaldo
Fastest with great agility and skill: Ryan Giggs

Some say Silvestre was very fast - his legs had to make up for his brain...

I don't think Valencia was that fast. Yes, he is/was rapid, but because it's basically now his only quality attribute I feel people tend to over-perceive it.

For you? Didn't Fergie say it was Gary Pallister?

For Chelsea? Robben was lightning, probably him for all three catagories.

Gary Pallister? :lol::lol::lol: Good one

For a 100m sprint, I actually think that Rio at his prime would challenge the best.

Flat out speed: Valencia
With the ball: Giggs
With agility and skill: Giggs

Robben was fast, but not Giggs or Ronaldo fast. He hasn't lost his pace though, which is very impressive considering all of his injuries. Robben was more or less easily outpaced by Evra time and time again when both were at their physical prime.

I'd say in a straight sprint, Ronaldo, Ferdinand, and Kanchelskis would better Valencia. Chris Smalling is absolutely rapid too, he doesn't have the acceleration so in a 100m sprint, I'd wager him to win also.

Fastest without the ball: Cristiano Ronaldo.

Fastest with the ball: Cristiano Ronaldo.

Fastest with great agility and skill: George Best.

Also let Usain Bolt turn out in just one match for United please. Then we can say the fastest human ever played for United. :D

Robben is offically the fastest player in recorded history. He's never been "easily" outpaced by anyone.

As for Pally, this is the Fergie quote about him:
“We’ve had a lot of quick players here. If you’re talking over certain distances, then Gary Pallister would have taken some beating in a sprint.

“I think he was the quickest in the 100 metres. But speed in football isn’t about running 100 metres on a football pitch. So you’ve also got to consider Kanchelskis, Ronaldo, Giggs, Cole, Paul Parker - he was very, very quick - Anderson, Ferdinand, Lee Sharpe as a young kid was quick before he started to get bigger.

“Paul Ince was very quick. So that group of players would be in it, but over 100 metres, Pallister would have beaten any of them."

Didn't Bellion have crazy pace?

Fringe player...

Smalling is fast, no doubt. I always thought Giggs was faster than Kanchelskis actually, especially with the ball. Before his injuries, Giggs was extremely fast. His run against Sheffield United before setting up Hughes was electric.

Rooney *chuckle* ... I remember he was measured among fastest player in the world not even two years ago. Absolutely BS research. I think Bolt wouldn't have it that easy if he faced Welbeck. He was recently our fastest player, great athletic stature. Valencia wouldn't be far away from him. Giggs with the ability and apart Ronaldo who would make the list, Anderson was super-quick when he arrived, with the ball and very agile player before he suffered some serious injuries..

Gorging yourself on Greggs steak bakes and Yum Yums every day is not really an "injury".

Yeah, I agree with most of what you're saying. I guess with Giggs I see him as more of a speed demon on the ball, running at players as opposed to a player simply with immense athletic like strength. He may also be one of the quickest of the ball at his pomp, I'd certainly have him top 10.

Just as an aside on Rooney, he was quick but never top level quick, I always felt he had a brilliant burst of accelerative pace alongside having great upper body strength which worked well in counter attacks and basically adorned his actual level of pace.

Wow!!!

I love those counter attacks. IMO the best types of goals. You can see it coming with two three players running in full pelt and when we score its like an explosion of emotions. Btw. Can some younger technical talent set up a YouTube collection with famous United counter attacks. It would be very appreciated. :-)

Ronaldo
Ronaldo
Giggs

Can't say about Best. In the PL era this isn't even up for debate.

Reminds me of Bale in the Copa del Rey against Barça last year.

Essentially undefendible if the winger has half a brain to capitalise on the pace.

For some reason I have memories from many moons ago that John Sivebaek was an absolute flying machine, maybe someone can let me know if I am dreaming?

This is from 2013 and robben has since beat the record, but still interesting

Interesting - thanks for the quotes mate! I always thought of Pallister as slow...

Of course Robben was fast, but I do remember Evra outpacing him a few times, and although he is recorded as the fastest player, he has also been outpaced by Alba on Barca who Abate outpaced later on (he's a speed demon). Evra might just have had better acceleration than Robben though.

never heard of that joke, are you so proud about it kiddo?

I am trying to get 1 Anderson fat joke in for every 100 Frank Lampard fat joke that's ever been posted on here. I'm still 1000s short so they'll keep coming for a while. You might wanna stick me on ignore if you don't enjoy them.

I don't understand how Rooney is 7th.
Why? When on form, Rooney is quite fast. To be fair, Rooney seems to have lost some pace in the last couple of years or so but if I m not wrong he was placed in top 10 fast players more than once and through different research.

Nice bit of info.
