So I was having a discussion with some friends in the last week about the different types of dribbling and the best in each category.

Obviously there's some dispute on the separate sections but heres how I split them.

Close Quarter Possession (Xavi, Iniesta, Modric, Lahm etc)
Close Quarter Explosive (Messi, Hazard, Neymar, Aguero etc)
Sprinters (Ronaldo, Bale, Miralles, Lavezzi etc)

So a little discussion and game away from the Moyes stuff.
Remember this is from what you have seen this season 13/14

Mine would go

Close Quarter Possession: Modric
Close Quarter Explosive: Hazard
Sprinters: Bale

Overall best dribbler: Hazard

What do you guys think?

I'd say Ronaldo edges out Bale, and Messi edges out Hazard.

I'd go with Silva for your close quarter possession catagory - better than all 4 that you mention in my opinion.

Close quarter possession: Iniesta
Close quarter explosive: Messi
Sprinters: Ronaldo
Overall: Messi

Danny Welbeck isn't half bad at close quarter possession. I'd not say he's better than any you've mentioned by any stretch of the imagination, but he's definitely one of our best. He has that gift that the ball just seems to stick to his feet.

Yep, David Silva is the best I've seen in terms of what you'd class as 'close quarter' possession.

I'd put Ronaldo over Bale, I feel Ronaldo has excellent control of the ball at full pelt, something which is very difficult to do. One wrong touch throws your entire stride and direction off.

Close Quarter Possession: Iniesta/Modric/Silva can't make my mind up
Close Quarter Explosive: Messi (when fit), will eventually be Hazard very soon.
Sprinters: Ronaldo followed by Bale.

Messi
Messi
Messi

Honourable mentions: Neymar, Ronaldinho (still playing), Iniesta, Modric, Hazard, Ronaldo.

This season I'd put Bale above Ronaldo for me he hasnt shown much of his "dribbling" ability.

Hazard/Modric over Messi/Iniesta?

Is this real life?

Hazard better dribbler than Messi :wenger: Maybe better than the Messi versus Atletico :wenger:

Close quarter possession? Iniesta by several astronomical units. Not a slither of a doubt there.

Sprinters? It has to be between Ronaldo, Bale and Robben. Probably Ronaldo edges it, but I am not sure.

Out of curiosity what about a best dribbling XI?

De Gea
Alves Kompany Silva Marcelo
Silva Modric Iniesta
Ronaldo Suarez Messi

Iniesta has the best close control I've ever seen. Messi has an arsenal of moves he can execute seemingly at will, but Iniesta is almost freeform. He's so natural he can improvise in a split-second.

That moment of skill Iniesta produces against Real Madrid at 04:00 in the video linked above is my favourite piece of skill I've seen in football. Just sheer improvised brilliance.

Relatively unknown but great: Cuadrado

Can anyone explain/justify this obscene Hazard hype?

In the Barclays Premier League, you meant to say...

Nope. But I accept I'm biased in my view, as you are, and watch much more of Silva than I do of Messi, Iniesta, Ronaldo etc.

It's not even remotely close. Iniesta's control is the primary reason he is considered amongst the world's best for many years now, and the reason why he is the main man for the Spanish national team. His game seriously lacks in other departments, most notably shooting/finishing. But his insane control in the tightest of spaces (with both feet) is what makes him a world class player. Messi for example has uncanny close control as well, but only with his left foot. Like I said before, Iniesta has that, but with both feet. He lacks the Messi explosiveness however, and the Ronaldo/Bale/Robben strength/speed.

What does the 'sprinters' category entail?

Is it simply who can run the fastest? Or is it players who can dribble the best at full speed?

If it's the latter then it's still Messi. You people are either blind or retarded.

No, I have been watching David Silva since his Valencia days (you know, he was actually a star player before Man City had petrodollars) and as brilliant as he is, his close control pales versus Iniesta. Which is nothing of a criticism against the man, it is just the Iniesta is the king of tight spaces.

Edit: Like Messi and Robben, David Silva has awesome control with his left foot. Iniesta has that with both feet. This is what sets him apart in terms of the "close control" department.

Ermm. Calm down?

Iniesta edges Silva in close control. He has better balance, he is stronger on the ball and has more explosive speed.

You're telling me David Silva wasn't born in Didsbury and raised in City's academy? Damn.

Again, your opinion. I think Silva is the best I've seen at that type of dribbling. I accept people may think it is a ludicrous view but it is based on what I have seen.

Ribery is underrated, a real phenomenon

Nobody mentioned Ibrahimovic hahaha

David Silva is definitely not better than Iniesta in close control.

With the close quarter possession "dribbling", are you counting maybe only passages of three or four touch play? I'd say that Busquets is better in close quarter possession than Xavi.
