Where did I say I haven't seen him?? Said i haven't seen much of him. Are we arguing Eriksen isn't talented? We need creative players.. it hasn't worked for us yet so I don't get why everyone thinks this solid midfield dynamo is more important. I feel someone to help us dictate our tempo is more what we need. Unfortunately Scholes and Pirlo type players are harder the find than someone who does the same job further up the field. But feel free to name them.

I was disagree that Hargreaves wasn't a good player for us not comparing medals. The fact that we won the treble in his first season with him being an integral part was backing up my argument.

I think someone like moutinho would be perfect, but the only people rumoured to sign him are Monaco, spurs and I think it was psg. No idea why we aren't amongst those names, and no reason for us not to be. He would instantly slide into our midfield as he is a very good player, and an all around midfielder. He's always shown how good of a player he is for the national side as well. I used to think he was more of an attacking midfielder, or a playmaker but he's improved his all round game these last few years.
It's kind of strange with Moutinho, in that there's this hype about how talented he is but at 26 years of age he hasn't really had interest from a top club. I'm actually quite a fan of his but I just wonder if there are some behind the scenes issues (mental?) with him that has prevented a truly top club from wanting him.
Anyone still thinks Fergie will bring in a truly world class midfielder?

I really miss Hargreaves. We would NOT have lost the title to the chavs in 2010 & citeh last year if he never had those terrible injuries. Some of you just don't remember or know how good he was. He would certainly have made a huge difference.

The reason we lost the Premiership last season is not lack of Hargreaves. You can point to a number of more valid reasons.
Long term injuries to Vidic, Rio, Fletcher, Cleverley, Anderson were crucial in losing the Premiership to city. Evans getting sent off against City, losing against Blackburn by playing Rafael, and Park in midfield, Everton draw, and finally QPR switching off in the last few minutes knowing they were safe were the highlights.
Definitely where we lost it.
I can see what he meant though about the lack of Hargreaves (or a player of his ilk), someone to help see out a game and shut up shop. Darren Fletcher would be another if it wasn't for his unfortunate illness.
We desperately need a midfielder with legs who can tackle and bring the ball forward.
We had it. Jones, the very same player who we picked to do a job on Felliani last time we played Everton. SAF was just far too slow bringing Jones on for Scholes in that fateful game.
He waited till it was 4-4 before bringing jones on to shut up shop!
Had he done so ten minutes earlier we would now be celebrating our third successive title imo.Won't be signing a midfielder though. Expect Jones, Tunnicliffe and Powell making the step up to supplement what we already have. We should finally see whether Fletch can ever come back or not too.
If we sign anyone for midfield it will not be Herrera,moutinho or anyone similar. In my view it will be one of these 3 PL proven players: Cabaye, Diame or muppet pick Jack Wilshire.

A good solid midfielder will do, we can hardly afford to be picky.
What I think is inevitable is we'll sell Anderson, bring in 1 midfielder to replace him and we'll get to a point next season where Giggs and Jones will yet again be starting big and important games for us in central midfield. It really wont be enough to sort out our issues.
I actually think we will sign a CM. Only for a good amount of caf members to be displeased with the signing but then SAF turns it into a masterstroke of a signing.

I hope we sign a centre mid but I'm not confident about it at the moment. It's weird because you'd think seeing Jones and Rooney in centre mid at times that this would be a sign of him not being happy about our current options, but at the moment I feel like this is more something that's going to be seen as an indication of our depth as opposed to any apparent lack.
We just need a solid midfielder. Not a marquee one.
At this stage I will no longer be surprised if we don't sign a CM. Anderson will (should) go, Fletch and Scholes are both likely to retire, that leaves us with Carrick as our ONLY actual CM - we have Giggs, Kagawa and Rooney all converted from forward positions, and Jones converted from a defender.
If Fergie cannot see that one CM in our squad is not enough then I doubt we are going to win the CL again anytime soon.

Recent events render this thread almost redundant. The man who would not buy a midfielder is, alas, soon to be gone. Presumably Moyes will not have a similar aversion. Surely a dead cert we'll strengthen midfield this summer.
Depressing thread. Look us at all happily arguing amongst ourselves here about our midfield and debating if Fergie will strengthen it next season. I miss those days

Another reason Ferguson's the greatest ever, he won the title with a formation of 4-Carrick-2. Especially when you look at Chelsea's and City's midfield options.

out of what we started\finished the game with today, i would only be confident seeing Carrick's name on the team sheet. That's how bad we need to strength this department.
We definitely need to strengthen, but I think todays game showed both sides of the argument.
First half our diamond of Carrick, Cleverley, Anderson and Kagawa were fantastic. It did everything a top class midfield should be doing. It controlled the game, pressed well and displayed some great inter-play.
Second half the opposite, Scholes and Giggs came on and Anderson and Carrick tired badly. We started to get consistently overrun. We also lacked the energy required in there to make the angles to control possession, leading to our passing becoming sloppy and our movement becoming static.
Obviously Moyes will have his own ideas but the first half did show we have the personnel and tactical ability to play a successful system with what we already have. No doubt we should still add to that but only with real proven quality as opposed to the Cabaye's or Mcarthy's of this world imo.

Today's game can't be used in evidence for anything but the fact that our team are capable of turning into a bunch of complete retards. You can't blame any one particular set of players for letting in 5 goals and playing like that...it was completely chaotic as a whole.
