John Peacock has named a provisional squad of 30 players for next month's FIFA Under-17 World Cup in Korea.

The Head Coach has included all 18 players who took part in the recent European Championships in Belgium where England reached the Final before narrowly losing out 1-0 to Spain.

The Young Lions' performance in that tournament guaranteed them a World Cup berth, which kicks off on 18 August.

Peacock will finalise his squad of 21, which will include three goalkeepers, and submit that to FIFA on 3 August.

The opening match for Peacock's side will be against North Korea in Seogwipo (pictured) on 18 August before playing New Zealand in the same venue on 21 August. The group matches will conclude with the clash against Brazil in Goyang on 24 August.

Also no United player in the England u-17 squad for the open Nordic cup.

hard luck for Ben Amos with his injury, he'd have been there otherwise.

Fábio and Rafael should be in the Brazil squad as well so there's other United-related interest, they're currently playing for the u17's in the PanAmerican Games.

Anyone following the U-17 World Cup?

Fabio and Rafael both played for Brazil and Fabio was the captain.

Fabio also scored a goal and does get forward quite a lot.

Butler selects squad for season opener against Wales

Date: Monday, 20 August 2007 Section: Underage International

Republic of Ireland Under-16 manager Vincent Butler has named his 17-player squad for next week's friendly match against Wales.

The Irish team begin their season against the Welsh on Thursday, August 30th in Swansea (kick-off 7.30pm).

Two weeks later, Butler will bring an 18-player squad to Turkey for another two friendly matches on Tuesday, September 18th and Thursday, September 20th.

Butler is hoping to try out some new players who didn’t feature last season for the game against Wales.

“The season begins here and it’s important to give new lads an opportunity in the squad,” he said.

“It’s early days and we’ll develop the squad as the campaign progresses. The good thing is that we have two more games coming up soon after this one against Turkey where we will give others a run-out.”

The majority of the squad were involved in the Irish ‘A’ and ‘B’ panels that retained the Under-15 Celtic tri-nations titles by overcoming Wales and Northern Ireland last May.

Republic of Ireland Under-16 squad:

Josh Byrne (Villa FC)
Craig Sexton (Belvedere)
Lee Swords (Belvedere)
Mark O'Brien (Cherry Orchard)
Oliver Nicholas (Arsenal)
Daniel Joyce (Belvedere)
John Disney (Stockport County)
Stephen McDonnell (Quay Celtic)
Aiden Dadoo (Stella Maris)
Oliver Kelly (Reading)
John Gorman (Manchester United)
Conor Murphy (St. Kevin's Boys)
Robert Brady (St. Kevin's Boys)
Georg Landais (Millwall)
Shane Murray (Arklow Town)
Jeff Hendricks (St. Kevin's Boys)
Robert Benson (St. Francis, Athlone).

Yeah, but he was meant to have been even better before he had that nasty ankle injury about 18 months back...

At that time, he was regarded as THE best talent in Britain, and one of the most sought-after in Europe. One of my mates who is "in the know" when it comes to United's youth, said he was tapped up on quite a few occasions when he was 14/15...

Sam Hewson is too old to play for England U19's. He was in the squad last year.

I think Sam is too old as you say....but players can play in more than one season...Richie Jones did in 2004/05 as an underage player and also in 2005/06....

While Sam is too old for our U/18's he doesn't turn 19 until 28th November so theoretically he is still U/19!

Febian turns 19 in February and he is still eligible.....

:eek:Really?

Brandy struggled for a while after he broke his leg, but I think he is back to his brilliant best now tbh.

Hmm, I was about to post that, but I really think he was absoloutely scintillating pre-injury, he used to do things with the ball that would make even Ronnie blush - simply mesmerising...

Though I do agree, for the most part, he is back, its just that little bit extra which is missing from his game, for instance, his control was a bit better pre-injury, and he was probably a little faster, he prefers to pass in certain situations where he feels he may get injured again, and he isnt as direct as he used to be...

Lets hope he gets that "little bit extra" back, as it would be great for United...

I never knew he was so highly rated.

The main thing with him is to avoid injuries, as he is quite small and does run with the ball which makes him a target. But his speed of movement and control just mark him out as special. I think if it were not for his stature, he would be on the fringes of the first team, he just needs to be handled very carefully and allow him to mature to around 21 years before he can go into the first team.
