Looks like there's a fair amount of players who are playing this tournament on fumes after a long club campaign. Not put forth as an excuse, rather, an observation having watched these players during the first half of the season now, the difference with some of them is night and day.

Kvarat and Bellingham look wrecked, for example. Both flagging, but staying on beyond 65min. There are others puffing well before 80min, which is a real shame given this is a major tournament and they don't look at all themselves.

Keeper mighy be difficult, but for outfielders, can you create an xi who fit the description for a: 'most knackered' xi at the tournament?

Brozovic, Jude, Kane, Sane the ones that jump out

Wirtz, too. Is constantly being subbed off early and far tamer than he has been all season.

Don’t know but I really hope some of them give a similar post-match interview to our very own Lucía García.

I think we could see more leggy tournaments with games increasing. Fifa now having their expanded club World Cup, an expanded Champions League group stage and pre-season tours.

I won't be surprised if there is Europe v South America organised by Conmebol and UEFA to rival fifa's world cup.

The German starting lineup all look jaded tonight

Everyone needs to do a Platini and pretend to be injured during the entire of January of a year with a summer international tournament.

He must've played the majority of Real Madrid's games including their CL title run. Not surprised he's knackered himself out. Are the Germans really lacking in squad depth that badly?

Schlotterbeck is a good replacement but he will need to step in for Tah who is suspended

The problem isn't so much squad depth but more that it's a completely rebuild team and a changed tactical approach. Nagelsmann wants his first team to get used to each other more. As we have seen some misunderstandings that's necessary, it's just a bit unfortunate for us that he only started this year to build "his" team.

Not that I blame him for that, he saw in the first two matches he managed last year how bad things are and how much he has to change. Made some brave moves, but that's just how it is now.

Luckily we have some days now until the R16 match, being in group A is a clear schedule advantage.

Thread is funnier if only judging by the looks of the player’s face

Lot of scottish candidates

Højlund looked absolutely done for, when he was subbed in the England game.
He’s looked like that after 70 minutes for us all year. I’m not sure if he had a pre season after joining us while injured. Either way, it’s far more first team football than he’s ever played.

De Bruyne wins this. His complexion often ends up making him look like some semi-fit fan has won the chance to take part in the game and is now on the verge of complete exhaustion and dangerous over-exertion.

 It came so natural for her to say - she wasn’t even sure what she did there! Also it sounded so cute almost rhythmic!

He had no pre-season as recalled, only did rehab.
