Just thinking about most of our scapegoats from last season, and it's becoming obvious to me that without the right circumstances, most of those players had no chance.
Doesn't matter if you sign Sancho or promote Elanga, no one thrives in a losing team. Once we injected a different mentality with new players, suddenly underperforming players from last season are showing real progress.
In a way I think ETH dropping the likes of Maguire and Shaw will prove to be great for them in the long run, because while they weren't necessarily able to get us out of trouble, they have the capacity to thrive in good circumstances.
Bottom line is, while I don't expect everyone to come good under ETH, I think some underperformers from last season are going to surprise us now that the circumstances have changed, because you can't thrive in a shithole. ETH understands this perfectly, and I'm for one happy that we didn't rush into selling a lot of players this summer.
