Yokohama F·Marinos v Manchester United
Tuesday 23 July 2013,
Nissan Stadium (11:20am BST)
The game, sponsored by Kagome, the club’s official partner in Japan, will take place on 23 July at The Nissan Stadium in Yokohama and the team is looking forward to being welcomed by some of United’s 4million Japanese followers.
Kagome, along with match promoters Disk Garage, invited Manchester United to play in Yokohama. This match will be an exciting opportunity for Japanese fans to watch the Reds play against one of Japan’s best football teams.
Manchester United chief executive David Gill said:
"Manchester United has great memories of playing in Japan and our game against the Yokohama F· Marinos will play an important part of our pre-season preparations. The Nissan Stadium is one of the best in the world and Manchester United has a connection with it, having become the first English team to win the FIFA Club World Cup there.
"The club’s three main priorities when arranging a pre-season tour is to first and foremost allow the team to prepare for the season ahead, to engage with our global fan base and to connect with our family of commercial sponsors. I am confident that our visit to Yokohama will be successful in delivering all these objectives."
Akira Kaetsu, president of Yokohama F·Marinos, said:
"We are very honoured to be given this opportunity to play against Manchester United, an outstanding team that represents the world both in name and reality. We, Yokohama F·Marinos, will show our best performance during the 2013 season from 2 March, so that on 23 July, as a team that represents Japan, we can make a great impact on the soccer fans of the world. We look forward to seeing you at the Nissan Stadium."
Aon is delighted to be the Presenting Partner of Manchester United’s 2013 Tour, offering its expertise in risk management, insurance, reinsurance brokerage and human resources solutions. Greg Case, president and chief executive officer of Aon, said:
"Being chosen by Manchester United as the ‘Presenting Partner’ for its 2013 tour is further demonstration of the strength of our relationship. This is a tremendous opportunity to demonstrate how our global partnership provides value for our clients, colleagues and communities, and it will show our clients and prospects, particularly in Asia, how the issues we help them with, such as risk management or health care, are equally relevant and important in the world of business and the world of sport."

I don't think he will play but he's joining the squad to begin his training and media/sponsorship obligations iirc.

Good stuff. It will be interesting to see not only what Moyes does with him (hopefully straight into #10, especially since Rooney isn't on tour), but how it affects the youngsters who so far have been playing in Shinji's various positions (Januzaj and Lingard, chiefly). I've not been massively impressed with Giggs so far (some very good stuff, but also lots of losing the ball, dawdling for too long etc), and we probably shouldn't overuse him in tiring friendlies anyway, so possibly he should be the one to lose out to Kagawa when he does get involved.

Trio join team in Japan

Ashley Young and Chris Smalling have arrived in Japan to join the Manchester United tour party.
The duo flew out to Yokohama on Sunday for the remaining three games of Tour 2013 presented by Aon.
David Moyes confirmed earlier this week that the pair, both recovering from injuries sustained last season, had been making good progress back at the Aon Training Complex. They will now continue that work with their team-mates in Asia.
Shinji Kagawa has also joined the squad in his homeland, having been given some extra time off following his exertions for Japan in the recent Confederations Cup. Moyes now has 23 players at his disposal for the games against Yokohama F·Marinos (23 July), Cerezo Osaka (26 July) and Kitchee FC (29 July).

Do we play the "fecking" Marions or what does the F stand for? I doubt it could be football, that would be just stupid.

Oh and while we are at it I want to play against Police Machine FC I heard they are quite good and beat some other team 67-0 or so that would be a worthy pre-season test.

Not to mention that they are the football club with the by far coolest name ever.

That is great news regarding Smalling and Young. I think if Young would prove a lot of people wrong if he stayed fit for the entire season. He was very good at Villa and can be a solid squad player for us.

The F stands for Flügels.

Yokohama F-Marinos is what became of Yokohama Marinos and Yokohama Flügels when the two clubs merged in 1999.

Shunsuke Nakamura (he of the fantastic Celtic free-kick) plays for this lot.

I want to see Messi and Ronaldo in a video like that.

 It could get awkward.

R - 'I wish I had the low centre of gravity and balance to dribble like that.'

M - 'Guess I was just born that way.'

R - 'Haha yeah, guess so.'

M - 'No, seriously, I was born that way. I mean, I basically had dwarfism.'

R - 'Oh.' *awkward silence*

Cool goPro footage! Shinji has a low center of gravity and has always moved really well on the ball.

2 excellent players. :D

edit: Note that Shinji refers to Shunsuke as Shun-san (in a non-joking manner). It is basically like calling someone 'Sir' in English. It is the opposite of 'kun', (eg. Sergio Kun Aguero, whom his friends called Kun due to the name of a character on a Japanese show they used to watch), which means 'boy' & is generally used for those of inferior stature (mostly youngsters).

Amazing, amazing attitude. Almost all Japanese are like that, but for Shinji - a millionaire, world famous superstar being abroad for a few years now - it is very nice to see.

San is just a polite "Mr". It's not really opposite of kun, san is simply the most common way to address someone older.

Love it. They have contagious laugh. And Kagawa looks so comfortable doing that fake moves. Japan definitely has the most skilful players within Asia (have played against Turkish (if they're considered Asian); and they are really skilful too).

Last summer I had all of the time in the world to watch our pre-season games. Not the case this summer..

Looking forward to hearing how Kagawa does. Hopefully he manages to really impress Moyes.

Yeah during work hours, but it's on the Al Jazeera sport channel so I'm going to record it and watch it when I get home. I'll just have to stay away from this thread during the game.

Looking forward to it, hope Shinji gets a few minutes.

I think Kagawa will start on the bench and come on with twenty or so minutes left, similar to RVP against the A league
