(287 Games - 15 Goals) Toxic Frogger
Well as some of you know, I live on the coast of Essex (just for some of you unclear on that, its no where near London ) Anyways, Portman road is about 30 - 40 minutes maxium up the road from me so its pretty convient for me
Anyways, I left at 2pm from Colchester and stopped off in a pub about 3 miles out of Ipswich in the middle of no where for a couple of hours before the game, following that I went down to Portman Road (funnily enough my first time in there despite it being so close to me)
Anyways, United warmed up as per usual and the team sheet was announced and all the other yada yada yada stuff before the match...
The fans were on song in the United end as per usual and the Ipswich fans up for it in a desperation to stay up
The Penalty incident seemed to be an interesting one called upon in my opinion, it was one of those boarder line ones, although you might have said he didn't have a chance in hell in getting the ball, theres also the fact he may of done, but It appeared to me as I watched the replay in the Exec boxes behind us that he caught his foot as he went down and then followed by the Ipswich player...
Anyways...
Keano hit the bar from about 25 yards out on the top right hand corner and rattled the bar, which had it gone in would of made it 2-0 , after that for a short period of time United seemed to gotten a grip of the game a bit more from a struggling Ipswich as Forlan had an excellent chance to open his United account, but failed to as the Keeper made a good save...
Ipswich on the other hand started to come back at United when they got a corner near to the end of the second half which just kept being scrambled away
Nistelrooy had a good chance in the first half as he put the ball just wide of the post from a shot which was cleverly disquised as a cross...
Scholes made an appearence in the second half, and he had a good attempt on goal which sailed just over the bar...
Forlan got a second chance to score, as he found him self 2 on one with Ipswich, only to go for an acute angled shot, which some of us looked puzzled as what he was trying to do, Nut Meg him perhaps? Im not sure... Nice effort by the guy though, don't worry folks, he will score...
Ipswich made a determined effort to stay up and songs from the Ipswich end at Half time suggested they felt the decision of a Penalty was wrong as they chanted "1-0 to the referee"
Ipswich fans cried for a Penalty towards the end of the game but the cry was waved away by the referee, who also had to split up Nicky Butt from a few of the Town players, couldn't quite see what though (must learn to grow )
The Referee seemed to of added 4 minutes to the game at the end, where it came from I will never know, but he seemed to have a bit of an off day, not spotting a corner in the first half from a shot which went over the bar of an Ipswich Player, but what can you say, thats football...
After the game I came out of the ground only to walk back to the coach for the usual police escort out of the ground on the coach and then home...
Ipswich Town 0 - 1 Manchester United
