If Ruud does go -

& once we have spent most of our money on midfielders, who else can we get for around the same fee we will get from selling Ruud (£8 - 12 million)?

Yakabu is also someone that Fergie recommended Harry Redknapp to sign, so he must have admiration for him as a striker.

Torres would be to much money imo (A Madrid want over £20 million) and at least with Yakubu you are getting a proven premiership striker.

He would also probably accept a squad place, allowing us to continue with Rooney and Saha, with Rossi getting chances as well.

Yakubu is no Ruud

He scores lots of goals against the weaker defences can you really see him outwitting defences at the nou camp or the san siro i cant.

he scored against chelseas defense last season with a good goal and had a great game actually. He's a funny player, doesn't seem to do alot but when you look at his stats it's hard to argue. He's young, strong and will score goals and has done alot of that playing as the lone striker for rubbish clubs..

Middlesbrough wont sell him on cheap

he's a player i like, improved no end over the past 2 seasons.
The sort of player i think could get 20+ in a top class team

along with Mido, he's impressed me no end this year

but neither are RVN level, but then not many players are

we're gonna be taking a big risk whoever we buy to replace that man

I wouldn't expect him to replace Ruud. If anything I'd expect Saha to do that.

Saha played 30 games last season, started 20 of them, scored 15 and set up 7 and was excellent. If he can stay fit I'd keep him up front with Rooney, however Yakubu could be an able understudy.

@ Devilish I agree about his price. Boro paid £7.5 million and they are hardly a club struggling for cash. At a guess I'd say it will be between £12 - 15 million. However I can't see many players in that price range I'd rather have, considering Torres for example would be so expensive.

strong - gets goals - doesnt get fazed by big events - cool - composed - and another king of penalties :D

Thank you! I've been saying this for a while. Glad you agree.

He's got pretty much everything except for the fact that he can be a bit lazy at times. Still, a bit of hairdrier treatment would do him a lot of good.

Agreed. Yakubu would be a terrific player for us. Outside of the top 4 clubs, he's one of the top premiership strikers, along with Bellamy and Mido, minus the attitude. But it would take a LOT of money to convince Boro to sell, and a LOT of money is what we do not have right now.

may i ask how old is yakubu? because s.a.f. has a penchant for younger players unless the said player ozzes class.

If I am not mistaken SAF does rate the lad, it was SAF whom recommended Yaks to Harry when Pompey got promoted to PL but I am pretty sure if SAF had wanted him, he would have made a move on Yakubu when he left Pompey to join Boro.

Gotta get past the group stages first mate.

*Thumbs up*

On topic, he'd be a great signing if available at a reasonable price, and I doubt they'd give up there prize asset for anything less that 12million...

23. Perfect age really.

Does anyone rate Darren Bent?

18 league goals for an average Charlton side is impressive.

I've been to a couple of Charlton games this season and he is an excellent finisher but he doesn't offer much in terms of build play.

Also very evident that when he was playing as a lone striker with a decent midfield he was scoring, the second half of the season after Murphy and Smertin left he struggled to get the goals.

Also I was at Old Trafford for the Charlton game and he was awful, got taken off at half time. I'd say he's certainly got promise but not worth the £10 million fee Liverpool are willing to pay.

When he was at Portsmouth, I thought he was very good on the ball, but not much of a finisher. He's since improved a lot, and I rate him highly. If Utd could get him for £12m, I'd think it a very good buy.

As Tim Sherwood said - Some games he's like Thierry Henry, some games he's like Lenny Henry.

Lets hope if we signed him we would get more of the Thierry Henry.

Supposedly wants out of Blackburn.

He actually had a great year for Blackburn.

Is he good enough for the bench at United? Owen replacement?

PL proven and a beast of a man.

No. Just no.

He literally has no redeeming features anymore, except from that his arse is so huge that defenders bounce off him, giving him the occasional chance when playing as a classic 9.

Dear god no.

I think you need to turn off the computer.

I have a wierd feeling Fergie will make an Owen-type signing.

I'm not saying the Yak is the answer I just feel Fergie will bring in some experience seeing that Owen is gone and Berbatov is most likely off.

He's a big fish in a little pond player.

Granted he didn't have much luck with injuries at us but he performed miles better at both Middlesborough and Blackburn.

While we're here, why we don't get Heskey too?

I saw this thread and thought "surely not". When I noticed it was old I was relieved.... Then I saw that post.

Imagine if RedDevilCanuck and Adam-Utd were our managing team

We'd have Shaun Maloney playing behind Victor Moses and Yakubu :nervous:
