'tis a silly place
With Veron doubtful, it may be as good an opportunity to bring back Keane and Beckham as we're gonna get. I'd like to see Richardson get some action if Ryan fails to impress again. I think we should keep the defence the same, but modify the midfield and attack:

Ole Ruud

Giggs Scholes Keane Becks

I would agree with that team aswell.I do prefer when we play 4-4-2 with Ole uptop with RVN (even though he did a great job at RM).Giggs really needs to pull a big performance out.Why do Beckham and Giggs have to come in field more i wish they would stay wide and supply the ammunition for Rvn and Ogs.

Assuming Seba is out, that's the team and formation I'd go with.

Agree with the comments above about Giggsy and Becks staying out wide. I'd like to see them at least try to stay wide and put those crosses in...even if they fail. That's where both of their greatest individual strengths lie is out on the wings.

I also agree with the comments above about Giggsy.
I've always been a big fan of his, but I do think we need to start thinking about other alternatives...if for no other reason, to put some pressure on Giggsy and hopefully to get some better performances out of him.

Barhez
Neville Brown Silvestre O'Shea
Beckham Veron Keane Scholes/Richards.
Ruud Ole

Barthez
Neville Brown Silvestre JOS
Becks P.Neville/Veron Scholes Giggs
OGS RVN

Keane ain't fit enough probably 4 saturday

assuming that Veron makes it back, i'd still like to see Becks on the bench for atleast one more game.

Keane probably won't be fit enough anyway so i'll stick with the winning team:

Barthez
Gaz Brown Silvestre O'Shea
OGS Phil Veron Giggs
Scholes
RVN

Barthez
Gary Brown Silvestre O Shea
Ole Keane Scholes
Forlan/Scholes Giggs
Ruud

4-3-2-1

Agreed, this would be our best team

Fergie has got to keep a steady hand on the rudder and not change the side too much. I would still persist with Forlan playing alongside Ruud. He's quite elusive and can do quite a bit of damage while the opposition are trying to shut down Ruud. Phil should continue in midfield with Roy coming off the bench again. Whether or not you play Becks instead of Ole is a difficult one. I suggest stick with Ole and if Veron isn't fit try Becks in midfield. The defence should be the same with Rio starting on the bench. The problem is Giggs who really should be turning in some better performances right now. He was quite inept against Blackburn. Time for Richardson to have a go there perhaps. Maybe better to wait for the upcoming home games to give the lad a better chance.

Scholes and Seba will both be facing late fitness tests as the MEN report, apparently Scholes has a back problem that would have kept him out of the Blackburn game if Seba hadn't had a swollen ankle. Keane's not really ready for a start, so we'll just have to hope that one of Seba and Scholes can play. I think Beckham will start though, whether Ole would be rested (he could do with one) or start up front with Ruud I don't know, but it'll be interesting to see, we've hardly played the Ruud Ole partnership this season.

I wouldn't be too surprised to see Blanc start actually, alongside Wes, with Mickey returned to the left back position and O'Shea rested, because we need Mickey's attacking threat and O'Shea has played an awful lot of games this season for a kid. My predicted XI then would be:
Barthez
Gary Wes Blanc Silvestre
Beckham Phil Scholes Giggs
Forlan Ruud

Subs: Keane, Ole, Ricardo, Richardson, O'Shea

I think Ruud should need a rest more than Ole, judging from his recent performance.

Calm down. How can I say Ruud should get a rest be a slamming to him? If I said Ole should get a rest then am I also slamming Ole?

I agree Ruud is a fantastic striker. But every player can get tired or a dip in form, and a little rest can only do him good.

If Veron won't be able to play I think it might be a good time to test Becks at CM.

Ruud does need a rest imo, but the problem is we just can't afford to rest him, particularly in such a tricky match as this one.

Frustrates me that Ruud and Ole scored 61 goals between them last year, and this year aren't getting the opportunity with a decent run.

I'm sure Ole's not complaining though, looks like he's been enjoying himself on the wing. Its where he plays for his country too isn't it?

Ole never complains.

But you can't tell me he won't feel demoralised when Becks goes back on the wing, and Ole is back on the bench, instead of up there trying to develop a good understanding with Ruud.

Maybe he will go back up front. We've played 4-4-2 a few times recently, with Forlan up front with Ruud.

I really want to see that partnership be given a fair chance. If they get decent service from the wings, we'll always have a good chance in a match with those 2 up front. Because even if one of them is having an off-day, chances are the other one will come through for us.

Does he need resting or is it a question of missing the target in the last couple of games ? He didn't play against Chelsea so he had the week off. I would play him with Forlan as I said before. Whether or not he's scoring, Ruud is a handful and this should give a front line partner like Diego space to operate and I thionk he's shown recently that he can do that. If both Scholes and Seba are unfit then stick Becks in the middle and keep Ole out wide. I don't think Fergie should tamper with the back four although the temptation will be there to bring back Blanc which will be retrogressive. Fergie may also be tempted to start with Keane if Paul and Seba are unfit.
